We know 1 cylon - the #6 look alike that accused Baltar of being a cylon or something. Cally sounds likely, and I'll throw out Zarek and the guy always on the bridge who noticed Dee's scrambled communications as candidates.

Good episode. I'm still having a love/hate relationship with Tigh. And I hope his wife turns out to be a Cylon and they blow her out the airlock. HATE her. I don't really suspect anyone else on the Galactica yet, although there are still 8 out there in the fleet. Let's see, we know Number Six, Spy/Assasin Guy, the weird guy that Adama met, and Boomer. That's four, plus the eight that Boomer mentioned. That makes 12 human models, right? Isn't that all of them?

I'm still sick of Baltar too. I agree with whomever said he REALLY gets away with a lot of odd behavior. Especially in an environment where people should be watching for odd behavior since anyone could be a Cylon. Kind of takes me out of the show every time he does something wacky. Ah well. I'd also really like to see him stand up to Number Six. Hate her too.

Although it seems like I hate a lot of people on this show, I still really like it. Looking forward to the Old Man fixing some of Tigh's fuckups.

Why believe the number Boomer spat out? Even if she didn't know, wouldn't she have just made something up to save the Chief?

What a great show. It just keeps getting better and better. It is interesting that some people don't like very many characters. I wonder if this is part of the plan. Keep us second guessing (good guys vs. bad guys) since they don't want to reveal the cylons too quick.

Man, I got excited when Adama showed up.

I wonder if after the "cylons" do what they're programmed to do if they now "know stuff" vs before where they don't know they're a cylon ..did baltar stop at 9 before she yelled out 8? ..was that the next number he was going to say and she just said it? or did he go past 8? I forgot..

Anyone else think Starbuck is going to spend the entire season on Caprica?

I think it's finally hit me what makes BATTLESTAR better than 99% of the other shows out there: tension (and I mean real tension) between the main cast of characters. In so many other shows, all the main characters just "get along," or, if they do fight, the division doesn't last more than a show or two...on BATTLESTAR you have main characters that literally HATE one another. It makes for great television, and some great performances as well! (Michael Hogan deserves Emmy consideration next year for the work he's done so far this season...he won't get it, but he's been bloody brilliant as Tigh in Season Two!)

We have long forgotten the question of whether this show could live up to the original (it's unquestionably superior)...but now let's begin the real question: Is the new BATTLESTAR better than STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION? I think an argument can be made that, at least so far, it just might well be...

Sure looked like it.
I thought the same thing especially since the still photo in the opening credits of Rosalyn taking the oath of office has always reminded me of the picture of Lyndon Johnson taking the oath of office on Air Force 1.

I don't think Starbuck will be there all season. I read a rumor that
Spoiler:
that Apollo and the President go to rescue her

As for Battlestar being better than Star Trek the Next Gen well it certainly is more complex and the characters are better drawn but they are two different versions of the future. It's loads better than Enterprise and Voyager, that's for sure.

There's no way I can compare a show barely into season 2 with one that has completed a run. Ask when this one is done and I'll have an answer.

I think Space 1999 is better than Star Trek so it's not too difficult for me to say this is better than Next Generation. Next Gen had some great episodes, but it meandered too much with silliness. Battlestar is far more consistent in quality.

Hmmmm, interesting question. It may be different enough that an argument would really come down to individual taste. BSG doesn't really do (or hasn't done) any episodes that could literally take place at any time in the series and stand alone. It is a very linear story. That makes it tough for me to really give a fair comparison. I'm also in love with BSG right now so while I can't wait for each episode, I forget how much I looked forward to new episodes of STTNG.

Okay, one last thing about cylons. If I were Adama, I would want to see the files of everyone and would want to know which people in the fleet were adopted or can't prove their lineage.

Baltar was counting down from 10, because in 10 seconds the drug he gave the chief would have done irreversable damage

Anyone else hoping no other main characters turn out to be cylons? The only returning person I could handle being a cylon would be Tigh's wife

I think it would be too much if too many of the regulars, or even semi-regulars, suddenly all became Cylons. It would be a plot device that would get old quick.

I know, but what I was trying to say was, did he get to 8? meaning he went 10-9 and she blabbed out 8 before he did to answer his question ..and he believed her..now did she lie, say the first number that came to her head (that being 8 if he didn't get that far) or did she really know.

ah
I think he was past 9.

and the joke is on the cylons. Helo isn't human
he's a replicator. He was in the background just now on the SG1 episode where they first encounter the over the top ridiculous "human" replicators

Although they're both sci-fi shows, it's like comparing The Shield to Freaks and Geeks. One's an action show with major and minor arcs, and one has more of sitcom/occasional mystery feel with standalone eps.

I guess I shouldn't, but the note Adama received last season said there were 12 Cylon models. If we've seen 4, and Boomer said there's 8 left in the fleet, it sort of adds up. We'll just have to wait and see. It's been a while since they've revealed any new Cylons. Can't wait for the next one.

SPOILERS

Do human-looking cylons age? If not, that's got to be a vote against Tigh's wife being a cylon. Now Cally (the plain looking girl who shot Boomer) could be... but I don't think so. I've got a good hunch that at least one more of the regulars is a cylon, just don't know which one yet. About the only fail-proof cylon detector seems to be to, um, to egage in sexual activity with them and then to watch their spine.

And a comment, do all of the characters seem straight out of past decades? Tigh and his wife are right out of a 70s drama, Adama and Rosilyn are from an 80s drama, and Starbuck and Boomer remind me of the 90s. The way the characters are written, that is.

The cylons do age. Boomer was a little girl who lost her parents, iirc. I would assume that they made "many copies" at the same time and allowed them to grow at the same age, though they would mostly be blanks until the "mind" is transferred, though the Boomers on the big ship did seem to have some thinking capacity, and there was another on Caprica at the same time.

So I don't know.

I'm pretty sure that's wrong. If the human cylons can grow then why all the effort to create the cylon baby? I think that was the background given Boomer and the reason why she couldn't prove she had any family.

was she really a little girl, or does she simply have memories of being a little girl, ala Rachel in Blade Runner

I think she just has an implanted history. She could have been slipped into society at any time.

I imagine at least one more regular will be a cylon, and the rest will be anonymous members of the fleet.

This show reminds me a lot of Blade Runner in terms of exploring the "humanity" of machines. Interesting that the actor playing Adama also played the ruthless replicant hunter Gaff in that movie.

My guess is that other Cylon models will be filled by guest stars. I saw a picture of
Spoiler:
Lucy Lawless
preparing for a guest shot in EW, so I guess she's a possibility. While it is a long shot that this will happen, my dream casting would have them bring in Lucifer (from the old show) and have him played by Christopher Walken.

Several folks have brought up 1960's references from this episode, and I thought the shooting of the 4 protestors was a blatant Kent State reference.

SciFi: "Science fiction is the search for definition of man and his status in the universe which will stand in our advanced but confused state of knowledge (science), and is characteristically cast in the Gothic or post-Gothic mould."

BSG is real science fiction, not Fantasy or Action. Other series have touched on aspects of sci fi, but while they dealt with major issues on an episodic nature BSG has taken several issues (Genocide, religion, machine ethics) and placed them square in the forefront of the entire series, examining them week after week. They then examine the 'typical' good sci fi fare (martial law, prisoner rights, etc) and deal with it on a episodic nature. I don't think another sci fi sho has done that. DS9 attempted this, but on a much more spotty basis.
