Arrested Development Marathons
Starting Friday, July 29th, FOX is running the entire second season of Arrested Development in five weekly mini-marathons. Anybody want to take bets as to how long the network sticks with this? I say they don't make it past episode 8.

Why won't they make it? Fox has a lot invested in this now, and the current fans take this show personally, so it should get at least 4 million viewers for sure. Not bad for summer repeats.

It's the summer and the show was renewed for a third season many months ago. If they say they're playing the whole 2nd season in mini-marathons, I would expect they'll play them all.

I was going to post this last week when I saw it pop up on my Tivo, but thought it to be too early.
I'm glad, as this way I won't have to rent the DVDs and rewatch them all.

My sisters ex boyfriend tried out for Blue Man Group about 3 weeks ago. I couldn't stop thinking about Tobias.

By the way, catching it weekly is great, and anything I can do to help the show while it's running I will do. BUT! I watched both seasons 1 (DVD) and 2 (taped off tv) in a 72-hour marathon and it was three days of bliss! Do it, it's amazing, how many connections there are, even between season to season!

NBC won the ratings race Friday, but the more interesting battle was between cult favorites "Veronica Mars" and "Arrested Development," with the former's run on CBS winning out.
NBC led the night with a 4.2 rating/8 share. ABC finished second at 3.5/7, followed by CBS at 2.7/5. UPN snuck into fourth with a 2.3/5, and FOX and The WB tied for fifth at 1.4/3.
ABC took the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 1.7 rating. NBC was a close second at 1.6, followed by CBS, 1.1, and UPN, 1.0. FOX averaged 0.9 and The WB 0.8.
"Dateline," 4.5/10, won the 8 p.m. hour for NBC. Reruns of "8 Simple Rules," 2.7/6, and "Hope & Faith," 2.8/6, put ABC in second. A showing of "Veronica Mars" on CBS (a Viacom sibling of the show's usual home, UPN) averaged 2.5/5, good enough for third. UPN came in fourth with the movie "Gang of Roses." Two episodes of "Arrested Development" averaged 1.5/3 for FOX. The WB trailed with "What I Like About You" and "Blue Collar TV."
Things stayed pretty much the same at 9 p.m., with "Dateline" improving slightly to 4.7/9 to hold its lead. ABC averaged 2.8/5 with a second "Hope & Faith" and "Less Than Perfect." Another hour of "Veronica Mars" on CBS came in at 2.3/5, tying for third with UPN's movie. A second hour of "Arrested Development" on FOX tied for fifth with The WB's "Reba" and "Living with Fran."

Got back from a FOX affiliate convention in Orlando about a week ago. There are some VERY negative feelings toward this show from stations across the country. They feel it doesn't belong on FOX, no one watches it, and will kill their lead-in when it moves to Monday nights this Fall. Unless this show improves a LOT, without support from the affiliates, this show is a goner. Hate to be negative, just giving you guys the inside scoop.

Of course not. Surely the ratings will be lower, because of poor lead in and Monday nights (sans Everybody Loves Raymond) are not traditional comedy nights.
My statement was that more people have the tendency to watch this type of show when it's a block of established comedy on a station, rather than thrown into a night which is likely to garner little support from the Network.

Obviously Sunday didn't work. Trying another night isn't a bad idea. I've said it before, but I think it is better suited to be sandwiched between shows like Malcom and Bernie Mac. All three are non-cartoons about wacky families. Perfect fit, unlike putting it between 2 cartoons.

Does that seem odd to anyone else? What kind of person watches The Simpsons and then doesn't want to watch Arrested Development?
