One Tree Hill Questions

I borrowed the S1 set from a friend and watched the first 4 eps last night. Have a couple questions.

1. Is the one brother a dickhead throughout the series? I guess I find it hard to imagine that someone can continue to be such a dick to his half-brother. I could buy it if he was really tight with his father but he seems to resent his father, which is where of course, he seems to get this trait. I also have a hard time believing that the chick dating him would ever go out with him to begin with since they don't have anything in common and being a dick doesn't necessarily equal being a badboy, which chicks dig. I just don't see how far they can play out this storyline.

2. Are the brothers supposed to be the same age (same class)? I take it that the father knocked up the one mom in high school and then the other mom later that year when he went to college?

I bought the Season 1 set during the recent DDD 20% off sale and went through it in about a week. Make fun of me if you want, but it's an addictive show. Not on par with Season 1 of The O.C.(One Tree Hill is nowhere near as funny), but I have to admit I like these characters a lot more. And there's no one in the cast who annoys the piss out of me the way Mischa Barton does.

Anyway, now that I've defended myself for watching this show, on to your questions:

1) Nathan is definitely not a dick to Lucas the entire season. And no, Peyton(the blonde girlfriend) does not keep putting up with his crap. I think you'll be surprised where his arc goes.

2) It's established in the next few episodes that Lucas is 3 months older than Nathan. Basically, their dad knocked up Karen, left for school, and then knocked up Deb. Real classy dude. But there's more to this storyline than meets the eye. They'll explain a lot more towards the end of Season 1.

BTW, for anyone who responds to this thread, please spoilerize any Season 2 info. I still haven't watched it.

It is addictive.

I find it funny that the dad plays the same exact type person as he did that one season on 90210: John Sears.

Wasn't that the first year of college? That's about the time I tuned out of that show.

Yep. I actually prefer the college years of 90210 to the high school years.

I mainly watch it for the hot chicks (both the ones in high school, and the MILFs).

Yeah - the girls are very attractive. Funny thing is that the chick who is the egghead/tutor is the best looking one.

I remember Mrs. Scott from the Playboy-TV series Eden.

You mean Joey....errrr, Haley? Sorry, I don't know why I'd confuse the two.

She's cute. It just took me a while to accept that she and Kelly Clarkson were not the same person. Once that happened, I grew to like her character.

Funny you say that since I couldn't stand Dawson's Creek.

Oh, me neither. I watched that show til about halfway through Season 2 and bailed(kinda like what Kevin Williamson did ). I think the final straw for me was killing off Monica Keena's character. The only remotely interesting person on that show and they dump her in the creek?

What makes shows like The O.C.(at least in Season 1) and One Tree Hill a lot more enjoyable than 90210 and Dawson's Crack is that the adult characters are just as interesting as the teenagers. The latter shows either ignored the parents, shipped them off to Hong Kong, or killed them.

Well, 90210 will always be at the top of the list for me.

However, you are correct that having interesting adult characters does make a show like this more appealing. I watched another 10 or so eps yesterday. Entertaining, if uneven, show.

10 more episodes?! Damn, I thought I was nutz going through 3 or 4 a night. And yes, the middle part of the season was a little uneven. The love triangle(no spoilers for those who haven't seen it) is the main culprit. And just wait, it gets even more complicated towards the end of the season when someone else comes into the picture.

Another problem with this part of the season was that Moira Kelly was off having a baby. Her presence was sorely missed during that stretch. Karen is the only completely grounded adult character on the show.

Now I'm halfway through the S2 DVD getting ready for S3 on the WB. Damn - they doubled the number of hot chicks btwn Hayley's sister, the bisexual chick, and Keith's fiancee.

Putting this in a spoiler since you guys are watching season 2 on DVD still
Spoiler:
I loved Maria Menounos' character. She was pretty much perfect. Hot, not too girly, not some butch. Other than that I didn't like the second season as much as the first. Felix, and Anna were irksome. As was the English guy and his storyline against Dan with the hidden money and transactions. Also Haley being away from Nathan the whole season didn't feel right. I hate the character Tyler Hilton (the singer Haley went off with) plays on the show.
