I liked how the show demonstrated the struggle that low income families can go through, but it wasn't exactly realistic. It might be a realistic portrayal of the first 30 days of being a low-income family, but there are ways to get out of poverty and government programs to supplement living expenses. Morgan didn't even really get minimum wage, he was getting something like $7/hr. I don't know how many more I'll watch, next week's episode doesn't appeal to me.

I loved it. As for the girlfriend, she's a vegan so I imagine we'd all bitch a lot if we only ate dirt and berries or whatever.
The whole point of SuperSize Me wasn't to clue in people on what they already knew, it was just to see how bad it would screw his health up.

I know minimum wage earners. They don't drink Fiji water, have a vegan diet, or run to the ER on the first day they detect a UTI. Maybe I just know unusually smart minimum wage earners or something, though.

If you guys thought Alex bitched, I'd love to see how some DVDTalkers would do in this situation. These are the people who will yell at a Best Buy manager for 30 minutes so they can save $2 on a DVD...and then go on the Internet to BRAG about it!

Although the premise of the show is great, I have to wonder how entertaining the future shows will be. Spurlock and his girlfriend were fun to watch. We'll have to see what it's like without them as the subjects.

This is kind of lame set-up. He said what if you drank like a college kid, well most people under 40 pretty much did that in college or "college years". Hell I know some people in their 30s and 40s that still do this, not a big stretch on this show.
My only argument about those that preach the horrors of raising min wage, is that it will cause lay-offs and possible business closings IF the owners are not willing to take a pay cut. I hate the idea that someone has to ear $5 an hour so the owner can make $100k+ a year and bitch if he doesn't make that.

Some ideas for future shows:
* Childless couple has to raise kids for 30 days (shamelessly stolen from this episode)
* Along the same lines, working parent has to become stay-at-home parent for 30 days.

I thought it was a great show, but I was disappointed in two things.
First, when he mentioned the concerns about raising the minimum wage, he failed to point out that the last time it was raised all the stuff that the nay-sayers always warn against happening didn't happen.
And when he talked about the expenses of having kids, he said that you "need" to buy formula. No you don't. Breastmilk is free. While a few moms might *need* it, it is usually something that is hosen, and is certainly not a necessary expense to having a child. I have never spent one dime on formula and my baby is ten months old. But that was just a minor thing that bugged me, as a nursing mom. I always get miffed when the media portrays things like bottles and formula as necessary baby supplies. Formula didn't even exist until 50 years ago!

Oh and as far as future shows are concerned, I'd like to see a reverse of Supersize Me. Take a severely obese person who lives on junk food and make them eat a healthy diet and exercise for 30 days.

That seems to be part of next weeks. They are taking a couch potato and making him work out, along with giving him steroids. I am sure he will be better at the end of the month, even with the steroids.
I want to be the star of the one opposite of this past episode, I want to live like a billionaire for a month.

One point I didn't sympathize with was buying the concessions at the movie theater. No need for that. Buy some candy at the convenience store and sneak it in. No need for anything else - I never buy concessions at a theater. I could see if you had young children with you, but those were older children and could deal without soda or food for 2 hours.

That would only last one day. The worst day of his life.

* Abstinence advocate has to work as prostitute for 30 days.

Not going to bother with a new thread. As expected that second episode blew. Guy was not clever or witty, didn't complete the 30 days, had obvious and expected results. Wow.
Next week, however, is the muslim episode. That should be at least somewhat interesting. I do suspect, however, that I won't learn anything new from this show at all. Oh well. I guess that's Spurlock's M.O.: Prove the most obvious things.

The only good parts were Morgan's segments.
God, that poor guy's wife was a bitch, and an emotional wreck - getting so worked up over something completely reversible. I hope he got to bang that hot cardio-trainer, Heather. He probably chewed her out just so his wife won't suspect anything.

This episode was lamer than I expected. If the guy had followed the diet and exercise regimen for a month he would have many of the same results, who knows how much the hormones effected him.
As far as the sterility issue, researchers have been testing testosterone injections as a form of male birth control for several years, did know one do any research for any of this material/issues? And please stop breeding you 2 are not rabbits or farmers.

It wasn't terrible, but I would have liked to seen somebody just do the diet and exercise for 30 days for comparison.
It was funny to watch his wife sabotage his progress. I wonder if she'd have acted the same if his cardio trainer were a hot dude?
Next week's has a lot of potential. Should be very interesting.
