I remember Snake and the PitA kid with the hat. Wheels went to jail on vehicular manslaughter, and the fat bully got HIV.

Well, that's what the show was aboot years ago anyway.

Now Snake's a cool teacher who's married to one of the kid's mom. There are a few people from the original still around in the new one.

They had a reunion show a few years ago on Jonovision on CBC. It was pretty interesting to see.

movieking 01-26-05 11:18 AM

BTW, Wheels did not show. Not sure why. The rest of the major characters were there.

From what I know the plot is that Kevin Smith comes up to Toronto to scout out locations for the next Jay and Silent Bob movie. The Plot of which is Jay and Silent Bob have been banned from going to school anywhere in the U.S. so they have to go to Canada to Graduate High school. I'm not sure whether Jason Mewes will appear in these episodes or not.

Sure do. That series was the most amateurish, but unassumingly charming, of the bunch. By the way, the kid who played Billy is in shitloads of trouble these days (acquitted of manslaughter and an unrelated assault; I think he's up on a charge of robbery now.)

I saw that too. Unfortunately, Caitlin didn't appear:drool: I believe Wheels didn't come because he was angry and disillusioned. It's my understanding that the kids' contract with the CBC precluded them from any residuals. At the time, I heard Wheels was working at a Money Mart or something.

Caitlin

HAHA! That "kid's mom" is Spike from the original series! Emma is the daughter that she had with the guy that was on X and had a bad accident in which he suffered brain damage in the original show. Emma actually found him in the new series (he was played by the same actor).

So far Spike, Caitlin, Joey, and Snake have had major roles in the Next Generation and Lucy and Wheels have both made appearances.

Great show and I can't wait for the DVD's of the original series to come out next month!

Yeah, I knew she was from the original series too, just forgot her nickname(never watched the original series except in passing).

LB: Actually "Shane" was played by a different actor in the new series. A show hosted by that actor has been mentioned in this topic. Yes, "Shane" was played by Jonathan Torres, host of "Jonovision" and was a cast member on "Joe Schmo 2".

So far Spike, Caitlin, Joey, and Snake have had major roles in the Next Generation and Lucy and Wheels have both made appearances.

LB: Yea, Snake (Archie) and Spike (can't remember her non-nickname) are married. Snake teaches computer at Degrassi, I think Spike is just a stay at home mom, caring for their child. Joey owns a car dealership and is dating Catlin who is a big time TV news producer. (In the Kevin Smith episodes, she is doing a feature on him-oddly enough, its been told that Kevin Smith was a huge old-school degrassi fan and had a "crush" on the person who played "catlin" and based some of his girl characters in his films on her.) Lucy has appeared in a couple of episodes, a reunion one and Snakes/Spikes wedding. Wheels (Derrick) appeared in an episode where Snake was down because he just got word of having a specific type of cancer. Snake, Joey and Wheels hung out at the bowling alley.

LorenzoL 01-27-05 11:49 AM

I only watch the Next Generation once in a while but I'll catch this Monday episode because of Kevin Smith.

AndyCapps 01-27-05 01:08 PM

Looks like 4 new episodes start 2/18 on Noggin. Probably be awhile before the Kevin Smith episode shows up there.

I would have liked to see Wheels/Derrick again. Thanks for the update.

So how was Shane 2? Wasn't he brain damaged? What about Wheels? Did it say how much time he served?

He was still brain damaged and sort ov violent. Emma found him in a home. I can't remember if she contacted him or he contacted her. Spike was none too happy that Emma located him. For a better synopsis, you can click here to read up on it at TV Tome. It's the first episode of Season 3.

They didn't say too much about Wheels time but I know it was mentioned. Check out episode 44 in the link above.

More on the upcoming Kevin Smith episodes. Beware of Spoilers...

Spoiler:
Alanis turns hoser for 'Degrassi' spot

By ANN MARIE MCQUEEN -- Ottawa Sun

Alanis Morissette has an outrageous cameo in an upcoming episode of CTV's Degrassi: Next Generation where she spews Canadian stereotypes and makes out with Jay and Silent Bob actor Jason Mewes.

It's all part of a three-story arc her pal, director Kevin Smith, stars in starting Monday. In the episodes, Smith and Mewes stumble on Degrassi while researching a sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back called Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh?

Morissette did the Degrassi cameo as a favour for Smith after appearing in his films Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Morissette's cameo, airing Feb. 7 at 8:30 p.m., ET begins with her playing a school principal in the Jay and Silent Bob movie-within-a-show.

Wearing a Maple Leafs jersey (boo!), plaid lumberjacket, full fur hat, fringed suede skirt and mukluk-style boots, the show opens with Morissette screaming at Mewes, who plays Jay, and Smith, who plays Silent Bob. Canadian stereotypes from poutine to the belief we say "aboot" instead of "about" fly.

"You want to get oot of Grade 12?" yells Morissette. "You've got to start learning what the metric system is all aboot!"

After the scene wraps, Morissette replies to a joke Prime Minister Paul Martin might revoke her citizenship.

"Where am I going to hide out for four more years of Bush in the States?" she says.

Smith got hooked on Degrassi Junior High after catching the show on duty at the store which inspired his breakthrough cult hit Clerks. He writes about his long-standing obsession in a Canada-friendly article in the new issue of TV Guide.

Smith said he loved the show because it featured kids with real problems, "not that 90210 kinda TV problem crap."

"Yes, yours truly the guy who cast Alanis Morissette as God (more local pandering) was tear stained in the middle of a new Jersey convenience store, thanks to Degrassi," he writes.

Smith went on to name a Clerks character after his favourite Degrassi leading lady, Caitlin Ryan. He spent $2,000 from his first Clerks cheque to buy up episodes from a scholastic video supply store.

He put Shannon Doherty in a Degrassi jacket in his film Mallrats and also had actor Jason Lee eating pizza and chatting with Ben Affleck in front of an episode of the show in Chasing Amy.

Kevin Smith gets his dream date
By JIM SLOTEK -- Toronto Sun

Big-time American director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Jersey Girl) lives his TV fantasy by getting close to Caitlin, played by Stacie Mistysyn, in three episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation.

In some jurisdictions they would call this "stalking."

Here, we call it an American celebrity fulfilling a decades-long Canadian wish-dream -- to share a soul-kiss with Degrassi kid Caitlin (Stacie Mistysyn).

Spoiler:
That's the upshot of filmmaker Kevin Smith's three-episode story arc on Degrassi: The Next Generation, which begins tonight (CTV, 8:30 p.m.). It's a conceptual brain-strain in which Smith plays himself filming the fictitious movie Jay And Silent Bob Go Canadian at good old Degrassi High -- and featuring Alanis Morissette as herself chewing up scenery playing a hoser high school principal in said movie.

To that extent, it's kind of like you or me getting to play ourselves in an episode of The O.C. or Desperate Housewives and insinuating ourselves in the plot. (Or maybe like guest-star Tim Conway dropping into sketches on a '70s variety series.)

Spoiler:
Guitar-playing bipolar kid Craig (Jake Epstein) is having a spot of trouble with his girlfriend Ashley (Melissa McIntyre) at the prom? Who ya gonna call? In Smith's typically self-deprecating words "a fat Star Wars nerd who hangs around high school proms." He's there with heartfelt instant advice, tempered with his own admission that "even in my own films I don't get the girl. I get Jay, and sometimes a monkey."

Spoiler:
"Old school" Degrassi kid Caitlin is suffering angst because she's wasting her talent reporting for a fluffy Toronto entertainment show? Turns out Smith has been a fan of hers since she hosted an environmental series a few series earlier (he's one of those cross-border fans of Canadian TV, don'tcha know). He offers her a gig in L.A. and turns on the charm to steal her from boyfriend Joey (Pat Mastroianni).

There are subtle differences, of course, between real life and the bizarro world version that's been specially created for the director of Clerks. For starters, Smith is married in real life. But he's enthused for years about the old Degrassi (the one with Snake, Wheels, Spike, etc) in magazine interviews, etc., and made no secret of his lust for the character of Caitlin (and by extension, I suppose, Ms. Mistysyn).

It all makes for the weirdest, and most entertaining Degrassi arc ever, old or new --the kind of surreality you usually encounter only in dreams where people from your high school years interact with the ones from your adult life.

Viewers of the new series know it offers about a 2-to-1 mix of storylines involving the new kids (Emma, Manny, Craig, Marco, et al) and the now-grownup characters from the old show, including Snake and Spike who've married (he's now suffering from leukemia) and Caitlin, who lives with Joey and his stepson Craig.

That balance is a little askew for the next few weeks, what with Smith being the elephant in the room and all. Tonight, there's but one student subplot that doesn't involve the filmmaker -- the catfight between cheerleaders Paige (Lauren Collins) and Manny (Cassie Steele) comes to a head.

The rest of the way, however, it all revolves around Kevin Smith, Caitlin and Craig (who's headed for a meltdown).

Which means a lot of Smith referencing himself as a "B-list" "C-list" and finally "Z-list" celebrity, and many asides of Smith sidekick Jason Mewes and/or his character Jay, falling in lust with high school girls -- a vibe that could best be described as ... um, what's the word I'm looking for? Oh yeah! Creepy.

Sample dialogue: "Jay, if you really love me, you'll wait 'til I'm 18."

"What grade are you in now?"

"I'm a freshman."

Ohmigawd!

I'm a fan, but I'm not happy with The-N considering 4 new episodes a season.

Daniel-A 03-17-05 11:46 AM

I watch it but miss episodes very often as they only show the new ones on the weekends

LorenzoL 03-17-05 12:48 PM

I watch it once in a while. I still like the original better though.

apchrist 03-17-05 03:56 PM

I've only really watched a couple times. I did watch all three with Kevin Smith though.

boredsilly 03-18-05 06:22 AM

I enjoy the show, but found Radio Free Roscoe and Out There to be better shows. Seems like now that they know people are watching they're trying to be extra risque and push buttons. I missed the Kevin Smith episodes, had no idea they were starting new episodes. It's smart for The N to try and keep Degrassi fresh all year (2 new eps here, 6 new eps here, 4 new eps here).

God bless all those shows for having 13-20 yr olds actually playing 13-18 yr olds. I keep thinking how stupid Tom Welling would look if he were a transfer student from Smallville to Degrassi.

Are these new or old, or what not? Which season do you know?

These were from this season they aired in January I think. Though I live in Canada and the show airs earlier here then it does in the U.S. I'm not sure how far ahead we are here but I doubt were more than a couple of months. Someone down in one of the border states will probably be able to help out with this info.
