The O.C. - 05/12/05

"The O.Sea", Episode #223.

Spoiler:
Filmmaker George Lucas expresses interest in Seth's graphic novel; Sandy and Caleb confront Kirsten about her behavior; Ryan, looking for the truth about Trey and Marissa, heads home to Chino.

Cast: Peter Gallagher, Benjamin McKenzie, Kelly Rowan, Adam Brody, Mischa Barton, Rachel Bilson, Melinda Clarke, Alan Dale, Logan Marshall-Green, George Lucas.

Producer(s): Josh Schwartz, Doug Liman, McG, Dave Bartis, Bob DeLaurentis.

Original Airdate: May 12, 2005.

Patman 05-12-05 08:05 PM

Overall, a better-than-average-season-2 episode of the O.C. tonight. More reconnecting on different fronts for Seth and Summer, and Ryan (both Marisa and Therese). And we are to assume Therese's son is Ryan's. Looks like Trey is back in Chino, just in time to do double-duty on 24.

George Lucas's cameo was sort of silly, but you wonder if what he said wsa true about missing his own prom, and later having to make "American Graphitti" to sort out those feelings of missing out on things to do in one's youth.

While Kirsten continues to struggle with her drinking, Julie's efforts to do in Caleb are rewarded, but none of it was her doing, so her conscience is clean, and she's going to be a very rich widow.

Patman, thanks for spoiler tags.

Uhhh, yeah, it still is spoiling. So, once a movie comes out, there is no need for spoiler tags, right? Yeah, that makes sense. Generally, in TV world, we use spoiler tags until the episode has aired in all of America.

Patman 05-12-05 09:18 PM

The Spoiler Wars will probably push people away from this area. Oh well, my conscience is clean, and I will sleep fine at night.

This is a thread for the discussion of this night's episode of the O.C. it is a given that the episode's plot is going to be discussed and you should not come in here until you have watched the show.

PLOT and revelaing the entire episode is different.

The main thing is if you didn't want the episode spoiled you shouldn't have been in here in the first place. We have seen the show and want to discuss it without having to spoiler tage our comments for 3 hours.

A note on "XYZ-Show Date" threads. It's common practice in this forum that thread titles that consist of the show title and it's air date WILL contain spoilers, regardless of a warning in the thread title. Enter at you're own risk! (Thanks to hahn for "starting" this tradition)

Gizmo 05-12-05 10:17 PM

Wonderful. I plan to spoil every show possible now in the future. Forget 'spoiler' tags, I'm gonna spoil the entire thing. Rock on.

You only did what you have been doing for years - sleep away.

That was great

I'm glad it looks like the love triangle between Seth, Summer, and Zach is done with.

You could have very well just stopped reading after his first couple of sentences once you realized he was discussing what happened during the episode that aired tonight, you know.

B.A. 05-12-05 11:10 PM

Definitely one of the better episodes of the season. Except for the fact that they killed off Cal. WTH is up w/ that!?!

(speaking of that scene we could use a screen-cap of Julie in her bikini).

Hopefully the love triangle is over w/.

lwhy? 05-12-05 11:15 PM

I was a little upset that they killed Caleb. He was the JR Ewing of the OC. I suspected that he would be killed off since he was cast in the Bow's pilot. I wonder who gets all of his loot. It would be funny if Seth becomes the richest man in Newport and Julie is shut off by his will. I wonder if Lindsay will be back next week for her father's funeral. I really really hope Eddie is father of Theresa's baby and not Ryan.

Meatpants 05-12-05 11:28 PM

Spoiler regarding Caleb

Spoiler:
I believe I read somewhere the actor is leaving to do a sitcom with Bow Wow on the WB. And no, I am not making that up.

DVD Josh 05-12-05 11:42 PM

Well, I guess the funeral next week isn't for Oliver, which is good. That guy sucks.

can someone spoilerize next weeks' coming attractions for me?

Spoiler:
Caleb has his funeral, and the preview showed Jimmy and (I think) Hailey attending. Not sure about Lindsey. It also showed someone shooting up the Bait Shop, presumably because of Trey. It implies Marissa gets caught in the crossfire. That's about it.

spainlinx0 05-13-05 01:07 AM

No offense Gizmo but you are completely in the wrong when it comes to the spoilers. The rules CLEARLY state that if the date is mentioned there is no need for spoiler tags on the EPISODE that airs that date. The previews still need to be spoilered, but Patman did nothing wrong. Considering all the actual spoilers that get placed in things such as the Lost thread I would think this wouldn't make anyone upset that the guy is actually following the rules. Sometimes I think the spoiler warnings should be a sticky at the top of every new thread instead of just the TV Talk section.

Good episode tonight. This was my first OC episode in a while.

Spoiler:
also Kirsten continues drinking and she is just wasted at the gathering after the funeral, I think she either ends the season in rehab or breaking up with Sandy over the drinking

chuiha 05-13-05 12:35 PM

wow seth actually done the right thing for once and put summer first!!! amazing. Summer is a fool to forgive him. quite an ok episode although nothing really happened and the seeson is ending soon!!! right?

Meatpants 05-13-05 12:38 PM

Throwing away a promising career / meeting with George Lucas for a high school girl is NOT "the right thing". ;)

well from what I took away from it....George was pretty much encouraging him to go after her. I don't think Seth left a bad taste in his mouth, if anything, he was probably glad that Seth, although such a huge fan of his, talked to him like a real person. Funny thing though, Seth being Seth, talked about himself the whole time. I love how he never changes who he is for anyone. Not even his idol. That rocks.

Tom Banjo 05-13-05 02:20 PM

George Lucas talks about using his creativity to create things like Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks... please tell me that was a tongue-in-cheek joke by him over general opinion of those two creations.

Doughboy 05-13-05 05:09 PM

Anybody else really disappointed by the George Lucas cameo? Not from an acting standpoint necessarily(he did no worse than his buddy Spielberg at the end of The Blues Brothers), but just how bland and dull his scenes were.

Why not surprise us by having him play a warped version of himself? Kinda like William Shatner in Free Enterprise or John Malkovich and Charlie Sheen in Being John Malkovich.

Maybe He is bland and dull.
What was that growing under Lucas' chin?

The finale looks horribly campy
Spoiler:
A moldavia type shootout already??

Original Desmond 05-15-05 03:21 AM

Gizmodvd, your not the sharpest pencil in the box are you mate ?

Duh let's click on an OC thread just before i watch it, gee what will i find in the thread, duh stuff about the episode

I learnt a long time ago to stay away from any TV or movie thread until AFTER i've watched it

Not a hard concept really even for those with tiny IQs :)

Groucho 05-15-05 10:16 AM

The rule for spoiler tags is simple: in general, only tag for episodes that haven't aired yet. Or in the case of dated television threads (such as this one), only tag for episodes that air after the date of the show. This includes coming attractions.

It's a common sense approach, and it works great. Sometimes people will tag early discussion of the show (which is why the first post has tags), but after it's aired, everything is fair game.

The rule of thumb for anybody reading one of these threads: if the subject header is about a show you haven't seen, and you don't want to be spoiled, it's best not to click the thread. Especially if the show's aired already.

Josh H 05-15-05 10:53 AM

As we covered already recently, spoiler tags aren't necessary in dated episoded threads when discussing what happened in that episode. That includes discussing the promo/previews for that ep and discussing the episode when it airs. And this was confirmed in feedback forum in a thread.

Anything about future episodes or other shows (that haven't aired already) need to be spoilerized.

The dated title serves as a warning that anyone who doesn't want spoilers should stay out of that thread until after watching that episode to be safe.

And again this is the official forum spoiler policy, as has already been discussed, so whining about it will do no good.

n0fear88 05-15-05 10:56 AM

I cant believe Caleb is gone :(

Was a good episode tho

Dunno wat to say bout George Lucas' appearance... o_O...he looked stupid.

Trey is a a$$, i want Ryan to beat him so bad!

Glad Seth n Summer got their dance @ the prom ^_^

x

movieking 05-15-05 04:01 PM

No screen caps of Julie yet? Damn, she was hawt!

I wish they would just leave Seth and Summer together and get a different storyline for them both.

One good thing about the previews for next week:

Spoiler:
No sign of Oliver!
