Has Arrested Development been renewed?
Rumor has it, according to The Austin Chronicle, Arrested Development has been renewed for a third season...
Anyone heard anything that's a little more conclusive?
Laughs are sought in a comedy about a single woman who has a child through a sperm donor on the WB. This doesn't strike me as high hilarity, but with the production team of Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, this could potentially be another offbeat comedy in the style of Arrested Development. (For those who've been wondering, the show has been picked up for a third season).

It hasn't been renewed, nor has it been canceled, so I wouldn't put much faith into any article that isn't straight from a fox source till mid may.

Whew...for a minute I thought I'd have to watch Fox next season. I can finally wash my hands of them.

Not sure I would use the austin chronicle as an official source of news

I wouldn't. It's basically a giant 'preview' section, that usually most big city papers have included, that tells you about movies/plays/music coming into town, with a few fluff articles thrown in. It's not really a common source for breaking news.

I'd been planning on writing this article for a month. If we ever had a content shortfall, I'd say "I can write my Arrested Development article!"
Well, we finally had a content shortfall that couldn't be patched, so here it is

And if it asks you to register, that's just annoying. Use my e-mail address KevinNelson / at / wisc.edu

From the first full episode I ever saw, I thought to myself "this show is too good to be on Fox, it'll probably get cancelled."
Maybe if they animated it, people would watch.
(And if that Hotdog show gets renewed, I could never watch Fox again.)

thanks for providing an email so we don't get slammed with spam also. Very stand up.I'd like to point out a Wil Arnett(Gob) interview in the March issue of Giant. Pretty funny stuff. I just got around to picking it up today, so I'm not sure if it is still on newsstands. If it is, you can read the whole thing w/o buying, it is only a one page deal. Page 74.

This show does gangbusters at the Emmys, I don't see why Fox would cancel it if it gives them representation the Emmys. Fox has little or none other nominated shows, but to be fair Tru Calling was robbed for best drama last year.

AD isn't holding very much of the lead in audience. Even if Fox renews it, don't expect it to be kept in its current time slot. It'll probably be moved to Fridays and then cancelled after 3 episodes.

In my humble opinion:
Fox should seriously consider moving Arrested Development to the FX cable channel.
Why not? After all, FX has produced a number of great shows such as Nip/Tuck and The Shield, programs that are a bit out of the mainstream but has gotten strong audience responses. I think Arrested Development is too eccentric for over-air broadcasts and moving it to FX--where the audience has a taste for less-mainstream programming--is a great idea.

USA TODAY's eighth annual Save Our Shows poll reveals quirky comedy Arrested Development is the overwhelming favorite to escape cancellation.
Among 19 series facing uncertain fates — "on the bubble," in industry lingo —Arrested scored highest: 66% of nearly 54,000 respondents urged Fox to renew the struggling series. (Just 12% wanted it dumped, by far the lowest total of any series.)
"The writing is so clever and funny, it is like no other show out there," says Susan Schomburg of Champaign, Ill. "It is literally the only new (non-rerun) show I ever watch and often the only show I will make time for."
Other fans offered dire warnings.
"If Arrested Development gets canceled, I will go into a deep depression for several weeks," says Morgan Davies, 15, of Sudbury, Mass. "It's my favorite half-hour of the week."
Usually such effusive praise is reserved for sci-fi shows with devoted cult followings: Last year, Star Trek: Enterprise won a record 70% support and avoided the ax — for a while. Its run ends next week.
In that same 2004 poll, just 36.5% of voters sought Arrested's return. Since then, the comedy has won an Emmy and found new fans on DVD. But the ratings haven't improved.
Networks will reveal the fate of bubble shows when they unveil their fall lineups to advertisers in New York in two weeks.
The second-biggest vote-getter was CBS' Joan of Arcadia, with 40% support.
"Joan is the best show on television," says Paul Reilly of Yonkers, N.Y. "It shows a real family where religious issues are treated with openness and respect. If my daughters grow up to be like Joan, I will be thrilled."
Other shows with more supporters than naysayers: NBC's adaptation of British comedy The Office, Fox's The Bernie Mac Show and ABC's Eyes.
Supporters of NBC's Will & Grace just barely outnumbered those who want the show dropped, 35% to 31%. The sitcom's ratings have dropped this season, but it is expected to return for an eighth and probably final season.
CBS' long-running Judging Amy had equal numbers of fans and foes, while support was meager for UPN's All of Us, produced by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. Five percent want it back and 30% want none of it.
Fox's Life on a Stick and Quintuplets had similarly anemic support: 10% or less wanted the shows to stick around, and more than 40% wanted them dropped.

Good to see, but the poll/results are still flawed since most probably voted "drop" for a show they might not have ever seen, or just wanted to make the show they wanted to stick around look that much better.

While I agree losing Arrested Development to no high-definition broadcasts could turn off some viewers, the issue here is that this show is not getting the ratings demographics it should be getting. Note that during the broadcast run this TV season its ratings dropped off dramatically after The Simpsons, something that nobody at Fox wants. If Arrested Development had the ratings, they would be showing season-ending episodes during the May sweeps period, not ending the season just before the May sweeps started this year.
Therefore, I would not be surprised that this show won't be picked up next season or it ends up on FX cable channel next season.

I really wonder how the face of ratings would change if there was a way to track EVERY time a TV show was watched.
