In many respects, Arrested Development is perhaps the greatest soap opera ever.

If it was a British show, it would've ended halfway through the first season, and that would probably be considered two season's worth of shows.

Since it's unlikely FOX would replace AD with anything nearly as good, ending it would likely just mean one more instance of replacing an entertaining show with an unwatchable one.

You can say, "Well, it had its run" and move on, but then there's one fewer thing to watch.

You know, to be honest, I wont be but so disappointed if the show does get cancelled....I dont see it as going downhill or anything here, but I guess I just realize that all of us fans are lucky we got 40 episodes, considering its been in ratings trouble from the get go. Im still pissed about Wonderfalls, but you cant say FOX hasnt given the show a fair shake. If FOX does plan to can it, Id like to see them at least give them a short third season to give it a proper ending.

As far as the show moving to HBO, I would have no problem with that at all (and as far as the cussing, if the joke is the bleep then they can still bleep...nothing says that all cuss words must be heard on HBO). I just dont see it happening...I mean, has any show not produced by HBO ended up on HBO? I just dont see them taking hand-me-downs. Id say it would have a better chance of ending up on TheWB...they have shown that they are willing to take hand-me-downs.

If this ends up getting cancelled, how can FOX justify renewing Malcolm in the Middle? Its ratings are worse than AD.

Syndication.

Malcolm has enough episodes to be sold into syndication at decent price and adding more eps of the struggling series will just add up to more $$$.

I'm on the fence about this, I agree on one hand because it has lasted two seasons, but I disagree since they have sandwiched the show between two cartoons. I don't think that is a fair shake at all. They should put it on after Bernie Mac or something else.

I can't imagine the WB airing this show. It's not the kind of show they would carry.

Arrested Development - do the right thing!

http://www.getarrested.com

As I am sure many, maybe even most of you are aware, Arrested Development is the funniest show on television that most people have not seen. Heck, if you ask most fans, it's the funniest show on TV, period. This show features innovative writing, a unique style, and IMHO the best ensemble cast in sit-com history. Arrested Development is intelligent enough to satisfy the most discerning TV audience, but is never pretentious.

Problem is, it just hasn't gotten great ratings. I'm personally not sure why, but many of the characteristics of the show that endear it to the critical audience might make it difficult for an unfamiliar viewer to just jump in feet first. Maybe word hasn't gotten out yet, or maybe a mainstream audience isn't ready for this type of unconventional program - but I think they can be.

Follow the link above, and sign this e-pledge to keep Arrested Development on the air. Give it another chance, even if you haven't had a chance to watch it yet, even if the show isn't your type of television. This program deserves to be on the air, and Fox should be aware that the critical acclaim and the Emmy Awards should alone be enough to keep a show of this caliber in their line-up. Hopefully, with enough signatures, the powers-that-be will see that a loyal audience is also here.

Please, sign the pledge. Sign up for the fan club just to show interest - trust me, you won't get spammed in the slightest. And tell your friends if you love this show! Copy and paste this message into an e-mail, spread the word!

Click here to save Arrested Development!!!

USA Today Poll

Hi again everyone. Sorry if this is repetetive, but I lifted this link from a discussion in this forum on the AD season finale. Vote to keep Arrested Development on the air at USA Today! Many have suggested voting "drop" for all others, could be a good idea, though I would suggest keeping "The Office", which is really starting to please even the die-hard fans of the BBC version....

So vote for AD, vote early, vote often!

I just want to point out that this petition and web site was actually set up by Fox, so this isn't some pie in the sky thing. Fox actually wants to know how much AD means to people.

So what is the scoop with Fox - a new program director? Does that bode well or not-so-well for a show like AD? I know it's on the bubble, but wouldn't FOX, of all networks, keep a show like AD on just due to the critical acclaim, even if it drew NO viewers? At some point isn't an Emmy nomination or 12 worth more than a few lousy Neilsen Ratings points?

It already hit syndication. You can tell that by the treatment it's getting now. It got knocked to the 7:30 time slot and seldomly ever gets any promotions or ad behind it. Right now it's just coasting since it's pretty much free money from here on out.

Signed. I consider Arrested Developement to probably be the funniest show on TV, besides maybe South Park. I hope for at least a third season, so the show could go out with closure. I also hope that the rest of the series will make its way to DVD.

Good call - ignoring my cynical side (believe me, that's hard to do), I think that FOX actually want this show to succeed. And don't get me wrong, I will be violently pissed at FOX if AD pulls the plug, but for the time being I believe their intentions are to give Arrested Development a chance. We need to take this opportunity to show our support very seriously, so even if you haven't had a chance to watch yet, please sign this pledge to keep television's best comedy on the air....!

I don't want the FOX executives to look back on this and think "I've made a huge mistake!"

Damn shame about Malcolm in the Middle. When it's on, it's right up there with the best comedies of the past generation. I think some viewers might never get past the fact that the show features several children, but I wonder if the show even appeals to kids that age. I've been pretty disappointed that FOX kept moving MitM around to where I'd often tune in after it was over. I'm hoping it makes a strong comeback.

As for Arrested Development, a "Cheers" or "Seinfeld" type of blossoming, in terms of ratings, is not out of the question. The show is just that good. Can it happen on FOX? Can it attract the mainstream? Let's hope we get the chance to find out, this season on Fox, or in the future when the inevitable backlash and outcry leads to another network picking AD up for themselves.......

Ask the hard working folks at Sports Night. They won emmy's after the show was taken off the air.

Seinfeld and Cheers are good examples, both shows didn't really hit their stride and gain a real audience until the third season. Word of mouth, and water cooler buzz got people interested. Then again those were different times, 15 years ago for Seinfeld and 25 years for Cheers. It is a whole new tv landscape and studios don't have the time, patience or money to nurture a show to find its audience anymore.

AD has this kind of buzz, and I think it will grow if there is a third season. People who hadn't watched will be wondering what this show is that is winning comedy awards and is already been on the air for 3 years.

the new program director actually bodes just aswell as the old program director. The new one is coming from FX, where he brought some of the best series to. Look at The Shield. one of the best shows on tv given a chance there.

So the chances are good that it will be around.
