West Wing 3/30

josh is a moron. even if he knew for a fact santos was sitting in a chair putting on his shoes he should have knocked
it would have been real funny if santos was balls deep in her though
and russel/santos would be cool as I want gary cole to be a regular on this show

mikehunt 03-30-05 08:29 PM

There certainly setting this up like there is no possible way Vinnick should lose. Great convention speech that "steals democratic votes", a moderate, a California Senator with a "mortal lock" on that state, and a opposing party that act like children.

In the real world, no Democrat would have a snowballs chance of winning the White House without California.

On the other hand, this is Well's West Wing we're talking about. ;)

In the real world, an Arnie Vinnick would not win the GOP nomination either.

The assumption is that Santos would win Texas, his home state. That would somewhat offset the loss of California.

I hate when there is a lack of continuity, however. In past seasons, it is revealed that Hoines is from Texas, not Colorado. Otherwise, it was an entertaining episode.

Well I guess Allison Janney won't be on the show next season.

lisadoris 03-31-05 09:54 AM

I feel somewhat vindicated that the writers did not just push a Russell/Santos ticket. They really are going out of their way to push Vinnick as the winner so unless some controversy explodes in his face, Alda should win (though I'm still pushing for Santos). The ending certainly paved the way for C.J. to exit in case one of the Dems does pull out a win and they are setting up the possibility of Leo as the DNC head.

Somebody needs to but a bullet in C.J.'s head before she causes any more problems.

A Senator, who has already won his state, is a good bet for carrying it in the general.

A Congressmen, who has only won a district, doesn't strike me as a given for carrying his state. Especially when he's of the opposite party his state is known for. Sorta like a Republican Congressmen carrying Massachusetts. ;)

What party currently holds the governorship in Mass? ;)

I'm not saying it is sound strategy - I'm just saying this is the apparently the assumption of the people in the fictional WW world.

You'd have to find a Republican Congressman from Massachusetts first. There hasn't been one in around 20 years, IIRC. :) But in essence your argument is completely true. Not that it matters - any sheen of verisimilitude The West Wing ever had has long been worn away.

The Colorado reference was to the current VP, Bingo Bob Russell, who does hail from Colorado.

I thought the Hoines rep wanted the Colorado delegation up front.

I was kinda confused at that moment because it seemed like all three were yelling out stuff. I think what happened was that Josh was responding to something Will said while the Hoynes rep was talking.

I'll agree that he should have, but its not really surprising. A few years ago CJ mentioned just walking in when Abby was giving Jed an injection while campaigning, they spend so much time together campaigning that stuff just happens.

As for the press leak, I don't think it was CJ for some reason. We already had Toby do his leak a few weeks ago. I know this is very unlikely, but I'm thinking it may have been the president, he didn't seem at all happy with what either side was telling him in the briefing.

Legolas 03-31-05 01:27 PM

I guess NBC's preview for next week pretty much gives away that Bingo Bob has no shot.

Did you actually think he had one to begin with?

Legolas 03-31-05 01:57 PM

I knew he wouldn't be the next president, but NBC could put some effort into the suspense. TV previews give away even more of the plot than movie previews these days.

I had to get the episode through alternative sources so I replayed the scene they didn't change anything storywise.

Josh said they're not putting Colorado up front to Will.

Will said they're not putting Texas up fromt and Hoynes guy said what do you have against my guys home state.

Ok episode

The Charlie and Bartlett scenes were pretty good. You knew he was going to get caught the secong he stepped outside the door but it was stll funny.

Those veteran West Wing watchers may know this is only the second weekly thread I've joined in on since I caught up last week, so please forgive the question if it's been asked and answered already.....

What's the deal with the season being over the first week in April? It's not like it was cut short, it's the same number of episodes. Does NBC have big Wednesday mini-series plans for May sweeps or something?

There were no reruns this year.

They decided to run this season almost completely uninterrupted (there were several reruns, but thats it). It was a good move since the campaigning stuff gave the show some momentum. NBC is running that "Revelations" mini-series event in the timeslot through May Sweeps.

He played Baker, Bingo Bob's fall-back choice for the VP slot.
