What's up with Malcolm?

I've been watching Malcolm in the Middle since the beginning and the show is losing me now. Malcolm used to be a genius savant but now his character has been dumbed down to the point that even Reese seems smarter.

The latest episode was hilarious. Malcolm is still a genuis savant, we are just seeing how he is still a regular teenager with problems dealing with social status and friends.

This season has been probably the best one in a long time.

Dewey is the real genius in the house, IMO.

The last episode was great. Sadly, I have to admit I really identified with Malcolm. This show impresses me so much that it's not scared to do some really thought-provoking stuff. I don't know how it's still on the air. It doesn't seem to get any attention from the tv geeks or critics and it seems like the show would be too depressing or deep for the average person.

Last week's episode where he and Reese broke down why they weren't popular shows he's still a genius.

I think the show's still great, it just has less to do with Malcolm. That's a good thing, because his voice is really irritating right now.

Have you watched it since season 1? I think this season is one of the best they've done, and one of the very few great sitcoms left.

In earlier seasons Malcolm would have been the first to realize that the haunted house prank was lame and he would have ridiculed Reese for it instead of teaming up with him.

and you're right about Dewey. He's become smarter than Malcolm too.

Malcolm has always been book smarts intelligent, but socially inept. This is nothing new.

Yeah, when he was younger he was able to spout facts and calculate in his head because he didn't have to deal with stuff teenagers have to deal with yet.

He's now older and has to deal with stuff teens go through. And I for one am glad they didn't take the standard sitcom road of giving him some insanely attractive perfect girlfriend that sticks with him even when he makes huge mistakes. Also, the whole supergenius thing got really repetitive after a while; better to tone it down.

OK, that was funny. but it's also another example of how Malcolm and Reese have become equals.

Reese and Francis have always been evil geniuses. Malcolm has never been able to match or top either in his mischief. I take this and the fact they were both sleep deprived to explain this situation.

What happened to Stevie? Two episodes ago he is friends w/ Malcolm; this past week Malcom has no friends and Stevie ditches school w/o telling Malcolm.

I do think they have Homerized Malcolm a liitle too much this past season. Is he even in the advanced classes any more? He was so smart it seemed like he would have been a Douggie Houser and be in college way before now. Remember when they first got their new teacher and Malcolm flamed all of the Krell(sp?) boys with his work while showing almost no effort.

What I’d like to know is what Francis’ talent is? Dewey is a musical prodigy, Reese is a master cook, Malcolm is a genius, have they ever shown Francis having a particular skill? I guess there’s the baby too.

There seemed to be a falling out with Stevie over the luge incident, but his character has jumped the shark too IMO.

Malcolm should be in AP classes in his high school, but they dont show the krelboynes (sp?) that much anymore.

Francis is the master of mischief. He frequently advises his little brothers on their insane plans.

Why haven't we seen anything beyond Season 1 on DVD though?

Music rights. Discussed in another thread. Too lazy to search for you. Same reason for no syndication yet, I'm sure.

What do you mean no syndication? It's on 2 times a day on my FOX channel.

Part right on dogmatica's end. Music right is indeed holding it up from dvd, but syndication is no problem to re-air.

The show's getting mediocre (lower than AD) ratings, but it's apparently doing very well in syndication.

Weird.
