Man, there is so much I want to say, but I want to wait until Sessa gets a little further along. *bites tongue*

It was planned. Maybe not during season 4, but during season 5 it was. Just look at one of the episode titles. "Shells". That says it all. Definitely not just a coincidence.

Spoiler:
You know, looking at the season 5 episode list, it really looks apparent that their cancellation was a bit of a late-in-the-game surprise. How else would you explain "The Girl in Question" appearing third to last? Not that I didn't like how the season ended, but in retrospect, it did seem a bit sudden. Maybe if Joss had more warning things would have played out a little differently. I think it's probably for the best, though. I'm not sure I liked his idea for a sixth season. And I certainly doubt it would have brought any new viewers into the fold.

There was an anti-gun theme on Buffy. You almost never saw anyone use a firearm on that show. That's definitely not the case on Angel. Especially with Wesley.

The two gun slow-mo stuff is done to death, but I still liked seeing Wes whip out the two guns & then the shotgun, I've been wondering since
Buffy why nobody has ever used a gun before.
When Wesley pulled out guns and started firing away, I was like "hell yeah, about damn time". Then when he went to the shotgun, that was even better.

So I've been reading thru the pages and I noticed you skipped a review of the episode Disharmony towards the end of season 2. Did you skip a disc or just did not bother to review a few episodes?

Spoiler:
Of course, she literally isn't herself for all of Season 4, but Sessa just doesn't know that yet.

And at least her final episode is a good one.

I think there just weren't many posts around then, & I watched a bunch of eps in a row so I just didn't feel like reviewing each one. I gave that set back & don't remember what happened in that ep.

But I finally watched a new one last night.

"Long Day's Journey" - As soon as I got to the menu I knew I was going to like this one, as IMO the hottest Buffy-verse girl is back in my sexy thief. The horrid Fred/Gunn pseudo-romance looks to be finally coming to an end as Wes seems to be more & more obvious with his affection towards Fred. Initially I wanted them to get together, but now I like Wes so much better when he is not part of the gang & on his own. The ending was pretty cool, but the Beast having some kind of control over Angel reminds me too much of the First controlling Spike. It was Angel that killed the totem guy in Gwen's hideout right?

"Disharmony" was the one where Harmony comes to L.A. after being spurned by Spike. She stays with Cordelia while the gang try to convince Cordy it's not a good idea. Cordy likes having Harmony around and tries to make her one of the gang. Harmony is up for it until she gets suckered into this vampire pyramid scheme cult and betrays everyone. Cue big fight scene. Cordy then tells Harmony to get out of town instead of killing her. She should have killed her.

Everytime time Gwen makes an appearance, good times are had.

Um, you asked a question but I'm not going to answer it. I will just say that all will be revealed soon enough.

IIRC, this is the ep that marks the beginning of the sun being blotted out. So the show will literally be pretty dark from now on. Heh.

I was glad when Gunn and Fred started to split. They never made a convincing couple. Wes has done things that dirties up his image, so I don't know how good a fit he is for Fred anymore. Though he would certainly be a more logical choice than Gunn.

The one thing I really disliked about S3 and S4 was that they started introducing soap opera elements into the show where it really hasn't existed before. I liked that everyone was friends and coworkers united against a common threat. Does everyone have to pair off and cause drama in the group? Aren't there other ways to keep things interesting? I guess not.

See, this is what I meant by the menus, and Gwen wasn't even supposed to be a surpise since she's the first thing you see in the episode. But seriously, for the rest of the forseeable season, I'd really avoid looking at the menus at all unless you want some pretty cool shit ruined for you before you even press play.

About "Long Days Journey", I'm glad Fox decided not to cut out the Glenn Quinn dedication at the end. I don't know if those sorts of things are usually left alone, or cut out of TV DVD sets, but since they usually cut the recaps, I guess you just never know what they might get rid of .

The only other one I can think of off the top of my head is the episode of Smallville where it was dedicated to Christopher Reeve. Since season 5 is not yet out, I can't say for sure that they'll have it on the dvd, but I assume so, since at the end of "Rosetta", Chris Reeve's first guest spot on the show, they had the little commercial for the Christopher Reeve foundation with Tom Welling, Reeve and the phone number to call, and that was left in for the dvd.

Actually I just thought of another, in one of the first Seasons of the West Wing there was a dedictation, and that too was left in on the dvds, so it seems warner bros. at least leaves them in as well. Most DVD releases I can think of have prints that are exactly those shown on television during the first airing. Even movies, such as Back to the Future Part 2 were the same, where they kept the trailer for part three in before part 2's end credits, something you would think would be useless since you can only buy the films as a trilogy, but nevertheless, that's how it was released, that's how it is on the disc.

The rediculousness of Angel's first few seasons cutting off the "previously on" is the only case I can think of where something is excised for the dvd release, and it was especially annoying in episodes where the end of the recap and the beginning of the new ep blend right into one another. Habeus Corpses is the one that always bugs me. All we get before the opening credits is Angel turning, walking into the stairwell and throwing a hissy fit. It's very disconcerting without the build up of the recap.

Something we had to suffer through with Season 2's 'Over the Rainbow', Season 3's 'That Old Gang of Mine' and 'A New World', as well.

I only mentioned it because regardless of the show, and regardless of who the dedication/PSA is for, it would seem wrong (morally, perhaps?) if they were cut from a DVD- where they would remain preserved along with the show.

Spoiler:
I wonder if Sessa is seeing the subtle Gwen/Gunn hints in her episodes? I know I didn't until I rewatched them

what are the hints? that they're flirting with each other? I thought that was pretty blatant unless there's something else I missed.

As for the previously on's, none was more horrendously absent that The Gift in Buffy S5: Hundreds of split second edits from the entire series building to a powerful crescendo, totally removed from the show, which now just begins with an awkward orchestra hit. Arg@!!!!!!

Got one in Friday night, but haven't gotten around to posting about it.

"Awakening" - Great episode, I was totally fooled up until Connor came back to help Angel take out the beast. There wasn't a huge explosion that would cause everyone near by to die, & Connor was acting way to cutesy with Angel, so I knew that this was not actually happening, I figured it was a dream sequence, but this was still a really good episode & well done all around.
