By avoiding May sweeps, she would not have to justify renewing the show as intensely as she would have to explain why with lower ratings. Basically, the show IS coming back next season...

I'm sure it will be back next season. I'm thinking it'll only last a half-season at the most. I don't buy the "corporate line" since things like that have been said about other shows (like "Karen Sisco" and "Farscape") and they ended up being cancelled too. I seem to remember a lot of buzz from the execs about how great "Wonderfalls" was too.

Fox isn't a charity and "AD" doesn't pull in the ratings. Enjoy it while it lasts.

You know, I've tried for some time to get my wife to watch this show. She kind of half-heartedly watches it because she knows I love it so much, but either it just doesn't appeal to her, or I have to get her to watch all of season 1 first (she's seen bits and pieces). She also disliked Curb Your Enthusiasm, and only recently has she come around on stuff like Scrubs and Malcolm in the Middle. I think she prefers more of the "stock" sitcom, like Everybody Loves Raymond or Friends. So I see firsthand the kind of challenge this show has in trying to get new viewers...

She'll come around, though. It hardly matters since we're not a Nielson house, but every little bit helps, right?

Echoes of Bonnie Hammer proclaiming Farscape her favorite show and the network's highest rated and "signature" program shortly before canning it in (attempted) secret still haunt my dreams.

Jason Bateman was channelling David Brent in the scene where they argued about his election results. I half expected him to awkwardly grin at the camera.

When Ann was putting up the poster for George Michael to help him on the school election, the acronyms read:

Vote

R
G
I
N

Can anyone remember what it stood for? I only remember the first word which was vote.

LorenzoL 03-21-05 11:47 AM

"Cold Case" kept CBS on top in the night's second hour, delivering an 11.4/18. ABC was well off the pace in second with a repeat of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." NBC took third with the 4.6/7 for "The Contender," which provided far better demographic numbers than its overall total would suggest. FOX was fourth with "The Simpsons" (5.1/8) and "Arrested Development" (3.5/5). The WB's second hour of "Charmed" was last.

I will be disappointed if it doesn't. He's half machine, you know.

Does anyone remember that Star Wars kid video that went around the Internet about a couple of years ago? Does anyone have a copy of it? It looks very similar to the one the GM did.

I thought the whole point of doing that was to parody the real-life story.

ON a side note... I have the DVD set, but haven't watched it yet. Anyone know if they keep bleeping out the swear words in the DVD? For some reason, I think it's much funnier that way...

I'm rewatching the set right now. Yes, the bleeps are still there. I think the constant bleep over Buster's swearword-fest wouldn't have the same impact if it wasn't.

pmark 03-21-05 12:56 PM

Thanks for the link!

When you watch the "extended pilot" you'll see that they actually DON'T bleep out the swearing, which is pretty funny.

But I agree the beeps are funnier.

He's a MONSTER!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!! *tears up pillows*

Breakfast with Girls 03-21-05 03:28 PM

So many "LOL" moments this episode!

The best line of the entire episode: "Steve Holt is a bastard." I totally lost it.

DRG 03-21-05 03:33 PM

"I don't think this is a real toilet..."

And Ann getting a little too excited talking about marital sex.

dick_grayson 03-21-05 03:38 PM

when someone (which turned out to be GOB) called the Indian kid a terrorist, I was rolling as well as all the other racially insensitive things he was yelling. the fact that no one cared was even better.

pezboy 03-21-05 03:47 PM

It's quite possible Buster's "I'M A MONSTER!" is the funniest recurring line ever on TV. I thought it was just a 2 week bit, but they pulled it out during one of the final scenes again. Brilliant.

tasha99 03-21-05 04:14 PM

Loved the "biblical" Gallant and . . . Goofus. It was perfect because GOB is Goofus all grown up.

Weren't they pronouncing it Goofuth?

The best part of that was the way Ron Howard said Goofuth in the narration, like he was saying "I know this is wrong".

I thought so at least once. Is that a pun on something or has Michael, unnoticed by me, been lisping? (In Highlights Magazine, it's spelled Goofus)

My bad--it was the narrator.

pezboy 03-21-05 04:57 PM

Didn't Ron Howard's character in "The Music Man" have a lisp?

Dude, I just blew my mind.

I love this show, and it's amazingly hilarious, but this post could be funnier than anything on the show...

Who did he tie with? George Michael said something like, "I got 3%. I tied with 'School Sucks' and The Fonz." I lost it with "School Sucks".

He tied with Bart Simpson and School Sucks.

Loved the callback to GOB's "Macaronni... Let me finish.... Salad". What was the exact line in this episode?

I believe it was: "Magic ... let me finish ... in the Office"

Roto 03-22-05 10:59 AM

Tricks...in the office.

I want Zach Braff's appearance ASAP!

Yup.

IIRC, he was on the cover of "Poof" earlier this season.

majorjoe23 03-22-05 02:35 PM

yeah, Chew, you're right. I remember that, too.

Breaking! Gail Berman Quits Fox For Paramount

THR and Variety are reporting that Fox entertainment head Gail Berman has dumped Rupert Murdoch’s slice of television heaven for a movie job (“the top creative post”) underneath Brad Grey at the New Paramount™.

Whoa, didn’t see this one coming. Berman’s ditching Fox in the middle of pilot season, and God only knows what’s going to happen to Arrested Development now. Well, God and anyone whose first thought is that it’s probably toast.

And what happens to Paramount bigshot Donald DeLine? Is he toast as well? And will he be toasting himself or get toasted by Grey? Too many toast questions make our head hurt, so see the trade paper coverage for the fun, factual portion of the story, including info on Berman’s possible successors and the liberal use of the terms “ankle” and “prexy.”

She made a huge mistake. The biggest supporter of AD at fox is now moving on...

This does not bold well for the future of AD come next season.

FUCK!
