That was absolutely the funniest episode of the season. I was laughing pretty much the whole way through. I figured Spade would be a good host, because he was on the show for 6 years, but the material was also right up there tonight too.
Martha Stewart on CNN
Spade as Stewart, newly released from prison and hardened by her jail experience. Funny joke about how she was going to make her cell mate, Latrice, a craft editor at her magazine when she gets out, then said, “I’m just kidding, Latrice is never getting out, she drowned her kids.” Another good one was how she now needs an office with a window facing Mecca. With such a strong start, I knew we were in for a good one tonight.
Monologue
Mostly Spade taking questions from the audience about his role in the Capital One commercials. Pretty funny, and the black dude & his white wife were there too. “Three questions, who’s the musical guest, is it going to be a great show, and should I stick around?”
NOOney and NooNEY
Spade & Dratch as a couple visiting their new neighbors, a bizarre European couple. We’ve seen them before and Armisen & Rudolph do a good job.
Deaf Judge commercial
“From the makers of Blind Justice…” Kind of the obvious gag of lawyers in court speaking, and then the Deaf Judge says, “What?”
Also coming, Idiot Doctor.
“Scalpel!”
“Ice Cream!”
“Motorboat!”
**flatline**
“MOTORBOAT!”
Movie Set
Spade as himself, a little upset with having a female stunt double, Amy Poehler. Of course, she does all the stunts girly-like. Sanz stole the sketch as Vin Diesel. Very funny.
Diesel “I do my own stunts.”
Spade, “Really, who does your acting?”
Spade “Yeah, I think I read about that in Who Cares magazine.”
Woomba
Ad parody about the self-propelling vacuum that cleans a woman’s “business”. A repeat, but still good.
Holding Cell
Rob Riggle in a holding cell, fighting off the advances of Spade. Not bad, and short enough.
Weekend Update
A few funny jokes about Martha and Michael Jackson. MJ was late for court because he was “stuck inside a 12-year old.” That brought Ooohs from the audience. Unfortunately, the Amy Poehler Hip-Hop whatever and Sanz doing an endless bit about taxes really killed the WU this week.
Sean Penn Celebrity Roast
Hilarious roast of Clint Eastwood, hosted by Penn, played by Myers as a totally humorless prick. Guests are Bernie Mac (The Fat Albert Nitwit), George Carlin (an excellent Armisen), Owen Wilson (an also excellent Spade doing the relaxed voice and with a new nose), Larry the Cable Guy (Riggle), Rita Rudner (Dratch), Will Forte as a ventriloquist, and Finesse Mitchell as Shucky-Ducky. I’m guessing the last two are fictitious. Penn signs off with, “Good night, and how dare you.”
UPS Guy
Spade as a UPS guy trying to flirt with a secretary. He strikes out repeatedly and finds out that she’s dating the FedEx guy, so he blows up the building. Okay sketch, until the stupid ending.
CC & Roger
SNL loves skits about musical duos. Spade & Rudolph are a married couple who write commercial jingles, singing a few for the crowd. I liked it for the stupid jingles.
Bear City
Another idiotic short film about bears taking over the world. T. Sean Shannon, may you burn in fucking hell for this crap which you have wrought.
Dirtball & Burnout Convention
Spade as a Joe Dirt character advertising the D& B convention, where you can get Yosemite Sam mudflaps, beer cozies, free M-80s for the kids, homemade bongs, and other redneck stuff. You can also meet the first guy who wore cutoff jeans high enough to hang his pocket out the bottom. This was very good too.
This blew away any other episode this entire season.

I really liked the Idiot Doctor Blind Justice joke. I've always loved Spade & I was so happy to see him in something other than those stupid commercials. I'm just ignoring the fact that he's on 8 Simple Rules, which I think should have been cancelled after the death of John Ritter.
I hate the sketches with that couple. What makes me sad is that they think it's funny enough to keep having them on as reocurring characters. My favorite reocurring characters on the current cast are Donatella Versace & the Prince & Beyonce sketches. I think that Maya Rudolph is usually pretty good.
I haven't liked a lot of episodes this season. When the presidential election was happening a lot of good sketches took place though.

I was hoping for a Spade on America with his appearance.

I think it was hit and miss.
When idiot doctor came on, the show picked up.
Get rid of Nooney & Nooney!!
Jack Johnson was the most boring musical guest on the show and their band name is lame.
If that is his real name fine but whats next another band will call themselves Bill Smith?

Nothing makes me reach for my remote faster than the sound of a harmonica. Yuck.
This wasn't a great episode, but compared to the rest of the season, it was brilliant. I was worried when they started off with the Nooney skit. That should have been in the last half-hour.
The Sean Penn Roast was amazing. I also really liked the Blind Justice spoof. That commercial is on way too much. I even saw a billboard and I thought it was David Caruso on CSI Miami.

I had never heard Jack Johnson until now. I thought he/they were pretty good. The second song especially, had a pretty good groove to it.
He probably writes his own songs, actually sings instead of faking it (cough Ashley Simpson and others cough), and doesn't have to read his own lyrics off of cue cards (cough Eminem and others cough).
I'll take Jack Johnson over 95% of the "musical guests" they normally have.
