Will you watch the Contender?

Actually, you have to like how the eliminations are done via box-off style, that adds a nice dimension to making your own fate in terms of elimination or staying alive in the competition.

Yeah, a weekly installment of Rocky, but if the fights are good, people will tune in, even though the Sunday 8 p.m. EST timeslot might be a little early for all the boxing violence, don'tchathink?

I really liked this 1st episode cept for the challenge was kinda lame but otherwise good.Hard seeing a guy lose though like Peter when you get to know him and see his family, least thats what i found.Big respect for Alphonso though for taking him on,he showed great confidence and it paid off.

That was a good fight but I have some problems with this show.
You can see that most of these fighters aren't in peek condition. When you fight out of shape, you don't have the endurance, stamina, and speed that you would normally have.
Manfredo was definitely much much stronger and bigger as seen in the second round but he was the inferior boxer. Gomez knew how to box but u could see that he was gettin' confused by getting advice from everywhere.
Manfredo just looked really slow and out-of-shape. Both fighters got beat up pretty badly.
Hopefully, these fighters will get into better shape for the upcoming fights.
Oh yeah, Ishee reminds me of 50 from the And One Streetball mix tour.

I hate reality TV in general, but tuned into this since I like boxing. I enjoyed it and set up a season pass on Tivo.
The show drug a little until the fight, but the fight was great with a big upset and one of the best fighters losing in the first bout.
The pacing should be much better (up to the finale anyway) with the episodes dropping from 90 minutes to an hour.

Wow, I am impressed. I really do not watch tv anymore but I gave it a shot because of my man crush on Sly and love for boxing. I thought it was great and I am looking forward to the rest of the season. I hope it does well so Season 2 can have Heavyweights. Stallone is back baby!

I must say, I really hate most reality TV, but I thought the first episode of the Contender was great.
I did think it had some problems though, seemed to be a bit too much 'fluff' before the fight. Luckily, like someone else pointed out, dropping it down to an hour should help.
My biggest complaints were of the fight. I hated how they had to do the stupid ass slo-mo + sound effects editing. I also hate how they continually were cutting to the crowd/families. Not to mention they didn't seem to show the complete rounds, and cut to a commercial after round 2.
But, other than that, I enjoyed it a lot. I will definitely be watching this one.

I thought this show was very impressive. I too set up a season pass.
My only complaint? Who brings their 3 year old to a boxing match? didn't agree with that choice at all.

I think the best thing about this was the way they edited the fight. Very well done. I just hope they're not editing out any actual content to force a storyline. Overall, pretty enjoyable. I wish they'd show more about their training like Tough Enough instead of overdoing the human interest stuff. Perhaps in the coming weeks ...

Shoot, Drudgereport.com has a blurb that the Contender "crashed and burned" in the ratings. Hopefully, "word of mouth/internet" will help with future ratings.

I didn't catch this (guess I'm not alone, judging from the above), but did it seem like an "expensive" show? What's the cause of the high cost?
