American Idol 02/21/05

Tonight, the 12 men will perform (live, on the East Coast) before America in hopes of making it into the final dozen.

Groucho 02-21-05 12:21 PM

It's my understanding that three boys will be eliminated from tonight, and three girls from tomorrow.

LorenzoL 02-21-05 12:35 PM

Actually Groucho, it two boys from tonight and two girls from tomorrow.

Groucho 02-21-05 12:36 PM

So it'll be three weeks to the final 12? Okay.

Who will the audience choo-choo-choose?

conscience 02-21-05 07:03 PM

Wow, um, I don't think they should do any sort of dance at the start of the show.

Well maybe the guys shouldn't. The girls can if they want to.

Alyoshka 02-21-05 07:28 PM

Ok so far I don't think anyone has done all that well. Thus far the Constantine guy (singing right now) is doing well, and I liked the other long haired white guy. I was sad that Mini-Clay picked such a cliched song.

Josh-da-man 02-21-05 07:34 PM

Constantin(e?) picked a good song -- I didn't expect him to do "Kiss from a Rose" --
but he was kind of warbling through parts of it. He has a lot of actual stage presence and charisma, though.

Bo was good, too, and Simon pretty much summed it for both of them -- Bo sang better, but C gave a better performance.

Trach-boy and the others have just been belting out high school prom crap. Bo nailed it in his interview when he said he wanted to be playing a guitar. This stuff kind of tends to come off like karaoke night.

Alyoshka 02-21-05 07:58 PM

Did they get rid of the section where the singers go back to talk to Ryan or does that always happen later?

Patman 02-21-05 08:00 PM

Good (mainly good energy on the stage)
Mario - some notes got a little scary
Bo - stuck in rock genre though

Average:
Judd - so-so recording voice, good stage presence
Anthony - not his best
Scott - horrible song choice
Anwar - wasn't as impressed as the judges were
David - eh
Travis - did not sound out of pitch (Simon is tone deaf)
Joseph - don't like his tone, though

So-so
Nikko - boring
Constantine - looks like Simpsons character

Horrible
Jared - nuff said

------

Please, let's ban the Stevie Wonder songs? Please!

Patman 02-21-05 08:02 PM

When less contestants are left, they get some on-camera time with Ryan in the backroom (like 8 or 9 are left)

Daytripper 02-21-05 08:28 PM

Joseph Murena and Mario Vazquez were definitely the best tonight IMO. Great voices and a presence. Definitely have an American Idol look. Judd Harris is good. But he's too much like that dork from last year. He needs to be careful. He's close to being a parody. But he's got a good voice. Can he doing anything but Billy Joel meets Elvis though? The two rock guys....I don't know....they just bug me. Especially Constantine. Good voices. Neither an American Idol type. And Anthony Fedorov. Sigh. Wasn't Teen Martin from last year enough? Does the world really need another Clay Aiken? No.

Patman 02-21-05 08:38 PM

There's something about Joseph's voice that didn't set right with me, plus, he's got that boy band look to him, so that put me off.

Constantine has no range, he's got his niche, but it's not enough.

Jadzia 02-21-05 08:42 PM

I was joking to my husband about Anwar's name --"What, was he named after Sadat?"--and then I realized with his age, he probably was.

I thought Mario was the best. He must have been backstage sweating his song choice though when Simon dissed everyone for doing "bad Stevie Wonder impersonations".

chileorgullo 02-21-05 08:49 PM

Mario did great and was lucky he got to be last, helped him even more.

Mario
Bo
Judd
Anwar
Scott
Constantine (which simpsons character? or in general he has the groening beard line?)
David
Travis
Nikko (come on he's the wizard's son!)
Joseph
Anthony(he really let me down)
Jared

Patman 02-21-05 09:08 PM

Put a hula skirt on Constantine and a shock of hair, and he'd look like sideshow Bob.

Anybody singing Michael Bolton should be kicked out.

LorenzoL 02-21-05 09:14 PM

None of the guys gave an impressive performance.

I liked the performance by Mario Vasquez the best but can somebody please tell Ryan Seacrest how to pronounce his last name properly.

I was surprised at first when Anwar started singing "Moon River" but he made it unique and different.

Patman 02-21-05 09:16 PM

I didn't like Anwar's Moon River, it practically sent me into an insulin-induced coma.

Deftones 02-21-05 09:28 PM

Mario is going to win it all.

Groucho 02-21-05 10:11 PM

Bo Bice won my vote. Best performance of the night.

Constantine betrayed all his rocker brethren by doing a Seal song. Seal? COME ON!

Iron_Giant 02-21-05 10:23 PM

Bo Bice won my vote, though I have not sceen all the singers yet.

xx2000xx 02-21-05 10:30 PM

Anybody else think Mario resembles Jamariquoi 100%? He has the same voice and pitch like he does, which imo, is a very very good thing.

I still think Anwar is going to win. But i PRAY that David Brown makes it through the next round. He has so much potential and i hope he didn't blow it last night.

xx2000xx 02-21-05 10:52 PM

How long is the voting period??? I haven't voted yet tonight and would like to but not sure. Can't find info on idolonfox.com or other forums.

Edit: for only 2 hours. Guess i'm out of luck. Hopefully David can get votes out of potential and we can send Judd, Joseph or Jared home.

But what's the point of only 2 hours? Of course people have always complained about the line being busy. Why not just open it for a few hours until the results show so they can count all the votes. I'd imagine they'd have a computer or some sort that would auto-count all the votes.

MJG87 02-21-05 11:17 PM

Were they the ONLY 12 guys of the bunch to choose from? If so, this season is going to be sad

And Whitney for the girls.

collven 02-21-05 11:40 PM

Anybody notice Constantine was really antagonizing Randy tonight? When Randy said he kinda missed some of the notes, Constantine said huffily, "which ones?". Then after Randy demonstrated by (badly) singing a couple of notes, Constantine said under his breath a little, "stick with rap". No one else noticed and Randy got a little ticked and "what?", like he couldn't believe he heard him say that. By then the other judges were talking so no one said anything, but you better believe Randy will remember that. The sad thing is, I think Randy really liked him up until that point.

Well, 6 really, 2 will be cut each 3 weeks to get the final 6. So it's rapid fire, but i guess if you didn't like that, you're in for a treat. Because the girls are farrrrrrrrrrrr weaker than the guys this year, it's not even funny how bad the girls are. There is many 4 that is decent, with lindsey, carrie, janay, vonzell the top of the group, rest are blah.

Maybe they'll step up their game, which they won't, but i guarentee that the judges will be far more lineant on them, because fox doesn't want the final 24 getting bashed to all hell.

They said 9 out of the 12 boys sucked or did safe songs, yet boys are way stronger than the girls this year. So tomorrow, we'll all see some shitty performances yet, simon will be forced to use the word decent, but not great about 6 times withen the competition. And then of course tell Carrie Underwood she's great and she has star quality.

Patman 02-21-05 11:48 PM

Anyone else notice how scared and petrified Carrie Underwood looked as the hour unfolded and the judges were critiqueing the hell out of the guys?

Caliking 02-22-05 12:37 AM

Good:
Mario
Bo

OK:
Constantine (although he kinda bugs me...he seems like he tries to hard to be "a rocker")

Bad:
Scott
David
Jared
Anwar
Joseph

Awful:
Nikko
Federov
Travis
Judd

i cant believe i am still watching this show...i guess its the excitement of seeing what happens? i cant stand the song choice (save Bo's).

What did Bo sing?

I missed tonight's episode because I forgot about the M-Thurs schedule for this week.

 I didn't actually vote but I thought Bo was the best, followed very closely by Mario. And I thought Scott rounded out the top 3. But I'm pulling for him since he's from Cleveland.

Totally agree about Constantine. I looked at my wife and said "Seal? Are you kidding me??" I didn't think he did a particularly good version of it either. Hopefully he'll pick a better song next time.

And I agree with whoever said ban Stevie Wonder songs... I hope they're done with those now. They've milked that cow for all its worth.

I thought I heard him say that! Not a smart move dummy, antagonizing one of the judges and turning off some of the audience by being obnoxious.

Couldn't believe that Constantine had such a 'tude. And that it was overlooked. For now. Did Randy say "Whoah!" or "What!?". The look on his face though said much more. It did not go unnoticed. And I'm sure was discussed with the other judges and producer afterwards. Kind of early to be getting a prima donna attitude.

pezboy 02-22-05 09:22 AM

What is just me or did Anwar have the creepiest frozen grin ever? He just stood staring at the camera after his song with his white teeth and bulging eyes. Yikes.

Bo rocked, but Constantine is the better showman. Mario will win it all. And Steve was really good--I liked his choice of song.

Has the annoying 16-yr old chick with the bigs lips been eliminated yet?

mphtrilogy 02-22-05 10:19 AM

Bo was the clear winner form here on out, you could see him trying to contain a huge grin.. he came out of nowhere and essentially kicked constantine off the show

theres only room for one rocker.. and bo nailed it.

seal was a bad song choice for constantine.

this group of guys is in another league from last year, none of those final 3 would have even made the final 12 this year

Shannon Nutt 02-22-05 10:26 AM

I guess I'm the only one that didn't think much of Mario. I thought Anwar and Bo were the two best, and I thought Constantine was the worst. Although compared to previous years, this is the best group of guys I've seen...ALL these guys can actually sing, although obviously some did better than others on last night's show.

Caliking 02-22-05 10:28 AM

BOOOOOO! who says there is only room for one "rocker." i dont think that more than one will get too far this year but that has nothing to do with "room for one rocker" but has more to do with these individual guys. i have been waiting for something different besides the american idols of past...give me more ROCK!

Agreed.

LorenzoL 02-22-05 10:36 AM

The first audience-voting round of "American Idol," featuring the 12 male semifinalists, scored 13.2/19 for FOX at 8 p.m. The pair of "Still Standing," 6.6/10, and "Listen Up," 6.3/9, put CBS in second. NBC's "Fear Factor" took a hit from "Idol" and finished at 5.3/8. ABC's "EM: Home Edition: How'd They Do That?" was close behind in fourth. The WB finished fifth with "7th Heaven," 3.7/5, while UPN's "One on One" and "Cuts" brought up the rear.
