Debbie Downer was only funny the first time and that was because the cast couldn't keep a straight face. Not off to a good start tonight... a whole bit about hot plates??? 2 horribly unfunny investment commercial parodies??? Jokes about Botox?? That's some high quality cutting edge comedy, or as Banya would say, "That's gold, Jerry. Gold!"

Wow. Tina Fey making fun of Bush? What a shocking turn of events.
(The funniest joke Update has done in a long time - Britney Spears latest posting on her website rea ah who cares?
Followed closely by the David Arquette joke...)

Ok, seriously. Does anyone here like 50 Cent? And if you do, do you think either of those "performances" were good?

for this one. I can’t complain about Hilary Swank, because she was a very good host, very energetic, but there was only one or two decent skits.
Neverland Ranch
Michael Jackson recovering from the flu in bed with Liz Taylor. Latoya comes in for a visit, even crazier than MJ. Also coming over are Macaulay Culkin (a perfect impression of Mac’s shiteating smirk by Forte), Webster (the Fat Albert Nitwit on his knees), and a great Hammond as Geraldo.
Monologue
Swank was a touch too goofy here as she walked around backstage checking on how the cast prepares for the show. Funniest part was when she walked into Rachel Dratch’s dressing room and found Dratch drunk and cursing at a huge picture of Tina Fey.
Grayson Moorehead Investor
Commercial about an investment company and how proud they are to lose your money in such stocks as Excelsior Shemale Escort Service or Rosie Magazine.
Sheila Choad’s Los Angeles Face
Talk show about women and their use of botox. Tepid jokes about their huge lips.
Grayson
Another commercial about more of the same.
Restaurant
Stupid premise, but was actually rather funny. Four people at a restaurant, and the waiter warns them about the hot plates. However these plates aren’t just hot, they burn through the table and burst into flames. The last plate was so hot that it turned Amy Poehler into a skeleton.
Debbie Downer
Swank brings her old babysitter, Debbie, to the Oscars. Nothing new here, but some funny lines. “I have trouble finding a dress that hangs on my frame. Way to go, scoliosis!” or “Finger foods do a real number on my gi tract.”
Weekend Update
Some jokes about The Gates, the new art exhibit in Central Park. Armisen appears on site and interviews real people about the Gates, and then ignores or belittles them.
Poehler had a good line, “Today on her website, Britney Spears……..uh, who cares.”
Finesse Mitchell did a great impression of Morgan Freeman, including the soft voice narration that Freeman has done. “I don’t want to drive Miss Daisy, I want to ride Miss Daisy!” "Enough with get busy living or get busy dying, I just want to get busy!"
Seasons of Love
On the set of a soap opera, with Dratch trying to teach Swank how to cry on camera. Swank has a huge mouth. This was endless.
Aaron Neville
Sanz as Neville as a TV judge. Just an excuse to use Neville’s singing voice. Sanz wasn’t too bad.
Marc Antony & Jennifer Lopez
After their appearance at the Grammys, doing a duet, they’re in their home and…that’s about it. No real jokes, but Swank does make an appearance as Loretta Lynn for some reason.
Project Runway
Swank as Heidi Klum hosting this reality show for clothes designers. Maybe if one person in the entire world had ever seen Project Runway, this might’ve been funny. As it stands, it was not.

This Saturday Night Live season has been horrible, the hot plate episode pretty much sums it up. The next live show has David Spade, so I will probably watch.

Swank was good and seemed actually happy to be there.
I'm ashamed to admit I laughed pretty hard at the second Grayson Moorehead spot, and Sanz as Aaron Neville was decent.
I never was a Spade fan when he was on the show so I don't have high hopes for the ep in a few weeks.

I really liked Hillary Swank as host. She had great energy and made me laugh out loud more than once. It didn't hurt that she looked fantastic in that soap dress.

Hammond as Geraldo was very good, the Grayson Moorehead Investor parodies were good, and the plate sketch was wacky-funny. Despite these and a couple other moments (the botox show was a decent sight gag, and Sanz was a good Neville, but neither was worthy of a full sketch), the rest of the show was wretchedly not funny. How can you miss so badly with Michael Jackson as a premise? He is a walking joke mine. From Debbie Downer to the end of the show I actually started feeling bad for the cast. They must know this stuff is not funny before they even perform it, but they have to go out there and do it anyway.

From what I saw "Morgan Freeman" was the best part of tonite's show.
