Need advice : Deadwood and The L Word

Hi

I know that the following series are totally different one of the other:

Deadwood: The Complete First Season

The L Word: Season One

I need your help regarding:

1)

Are they worth in terms of " blind buy" ?

Well ... Deadwood is very expensive ... itīs a " difficult" purchase ...

2)

Is The L Word like Sex and the City ?

Thanks in advance

Your choice really boils down to ********ers versus women you wish were.

Personally I don't think either are worth blind buys, or even really watching. I tried watching both as they were shown each week and gave up on both before the end of the season. I don't have much opinion on L-Word, other than I found it relatively boring and I didn't like it. Deadwood I liked at first, but towards the end of the season I just wasn't enjoying it. The direction the plot took just lacked any real energy or emotion. I think its a fairly over-rated show based on comments from others I've read on here. I still have the last 3 episodes Tivo'd, but just no desire to actually watch them.

Never seen The L-Word, but Deadwood is definitely worthy of a blind-buy, IMO. Read das' review here: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=14405

Assuming you're not opposed to profanity, DEADWOOD is a great series - it's right up there with THE SOPRANOS in terms of quality.

I want to watch Deadwood however, the cost of the DVD set has prevented me from purchasing it so far.

I watch couple of episodes of the L Word when it was on TV. It wasn't my cup of tea.
One thing though, I wish real life lesbians look like they do on that show. You'll definitely won't see a Rosie O'Donnell type in there.

Deadwood is worth it. The L-Word isn't that good. Boring as hell would be more precise.

Deadwood is expensive. However, keep in mind that if you are able to buy it at a reasonable used price, you will more than likely be able to resell it for said used price.

You're right about the profanity, my wife loves The Sopranos but she couldn't even make it through half an episode of Deadwood.

Agreed. Deadwood was definitely my favorite show last year.

I think I watched one episode of the L word and didn't find it interesting. Seemed kinda soapy.

I liked both shows.

The L Word is not like Sex and the City, it's a drama, not a comedy. It really grew on me as the season went on. At first I was a little "meh" on it, but it got really engrossing.

I've never seen The L Word, but Deadwood was one of the best shows on tv last year (if not the best).

Deadwood would be(in my opinion) so much better, if they just toned the language down a hair. I'm not saying water it down, I'm saying the language can get distracting with how manmy "********ers" are used(not to mention F bombs). It's my only grip with this series. There is bad language and then there is .....DEADWOOD

I still think they can pull of being realistic and still have less cussing on the show. This show makes "Scarface" look a Disney film in terms of how much language is used.

LIke I said, if the cussing were toned down, I think this show would be even bigger for HBO than it already is

The L Word is okay. I would say rent it, don't buy it. And don't base your opinion of the show on the first couple of episodes. They sucked bigtime. But the show got better as it went along. The new season starts on Sunday, and I'll be tuning in.

Stabbing, shooting, slitting throats, beating people to death, and feeding them to pigs is fine...but that darn swearing has got to go
