Actually, I thought the previews showed Kate in the background, which would be when Sawyer was pointing the gun at the boar and she was behind the tree where he didn't yet see her. In retrospect when thinking about it last night, I figured they were trying to play up the "lover's triangle" issue by showing it that way in the previews, since obviously Kate was nowhere around (that we saw) in the end.

Decent episode. No development on island secrets, but at least Sawyer's back story is one of the more compelling ones.

So, uh, next week's episode looks pretty great. My guess is
Spoiler:
somebody wrecks Michael's silly raft before its maiden voyage
.

mounds37 02-17-05 02:26 PM

Hurley's Backstory?

Just to make sure -
Pretty much all of the main characters now have had some sort of backstory - except Hurley? Right? :hscratch:

TJC980 02-17-05 02:34 PM

Correct.

Hurley's is March 2.

Next weeks its the Korean couple (#17; emphasis on the husband Jin), then its Hurley's (#18), then a month's wait and we get episodes centered on Locke (#19), then Jack (#20), then Sayid (#21).

Another quote, this one from Jack's Dad: "You know why they call it 'down under?' Because it's closest to hell without getting burned."

lucasorion 02-17-05 03:08 PM

How could Sawyer be so sure that he did meet Jack's dad when Jack told him that his father is dead - which from Sawyer's perspective doesn't sound like: "My dad just died in Sydney and I was leaving there with his body on our plane"?

It seems to me like the fact that Jack's dad died there (and that was the purpose of Jack's presence on the flight) will have to be made known to Sawyer, and then he will know that his original suspicion is right and he did meet him.

An interesting article with Daniel Dae Kim who plays Jin about his upcoming episode next week.

BEWARE OF SPOILERS...

That was me 100%. When he said "Nothin'" I was sorely disappointed...

Should this be spoilerized?

I don't think so. You'll probably find more details in a TV Guide description.

It's a small island. I wouldn't be surprised if Sawyer knew he found the casket, etc. Plus, what set Sawyer off was the Red Sox quote.

No, it's considered being repetitive and unoriginal because the same arguments have been posted the past 2 weeks. "It's too slow now". "I want more answers". "It's starting to suck". "It's becoming too X-file-y". If you didn't like the episode, why spend any more time discussing it. You already wasted 1 hour, why waste more?

Go to last week thread, around the 3rd or 4th page on, you'll find the discussion about people sharing your "concerns" regarding the show. Especially read the newspaper article with one of the co-creator of the show, you'll find it interesting.

  Yeah, I was :rotfl: too, Sawyer's delivery was perfect.

treszoks 02-17-05 08:35 PM

How many weeks pregnant is Claire now? She has to have that baby any day now it seems like.

Now, I think we can assume since he had forgotten his wallet, and was bumming free booze off Sawyer, that his last drinks were essentially the dagger that did him in--courtesy of Sawyer. So, if nothing else major happened, and his death was a result of his severe inebriation, then one could see how Sawyer "killed" Jack's father.

 Yeah, that's what I was just about to post: Jack's dad's wallet was in his room, and in the bar he was saying he'd forgotten his wallet. IIRC, the police or coroner said Jack's Dad's body had been found in some seedy back alley, that he'd drunk himself to death. I'm assuming the speculation about Sawyer killing Jack's Dad came from the bottle of booze Sawyer bought for them both, but I agree that doesn't necessarily mean that was the bottle that killed him... interesting considering Sawyer being in Boone's flashback, in the police station saying "I was just giving him his bottle back". :hscratch:

I didn't hear it when his father entered the room to kill himself, but I heard the jungle whispers and what the guy said when he was dying. Thanks to whoever had more detail of what the dying guy said; I could've SWORN that he'd said he knew who Sawyer was, or that the guy he owed money to was Sawyer, like some freak thing where the real Sawyer found out he was being looked for, and set up a guy who owed him money... but I don't know if I heard it right. :)

If you mean "the end" where Sawyer was pointing the gun at the boar, she was right behind him, watching him, and I thought they exchanged looks or dialogue after Sawyer chose to not shoot the boar...

spainlinx0 02-17-05 09:24 PM

I believe he said to her at the end "It's just a boar."

You know...the thought has occurred to me that...
Spoiler:
, when the show ends someday (I don't wanna think about that day), they'll reveal that only a few days have gone by. After all, they never really make any reference to time. No one's been shaving and yet no one has anymore than 2 days worth of facial hair. Hurley hasn't lost weight. No one seem concerned about the food supply. We really don't have any sense of passage of time with all the episodes being taken up by flashbacks.
Thoughts?

Bigsierra 02-18-05 01:02 AM

They have mentioned the passage of time, specifically about the amount of time Claire had been gone.

johnglass 02-18-05 05:31 AM

I think in the last episode or two they mentioned being on the island for a month already. Also, the Lost diary is up to day 27.
