The Apprentice - 2/10

The party starts now!

"Soap Dopes", Episode #304.

When the teams are assigned to create a mini-movie ad for a body wash, one team pushes the boundaries of good taste while the other must deal with one candidate's inability to direct.

So far, Street Smarts (down 1 player) is beating Book Smarts (down 3 players)...

movieking 02-10-05 08:28 PM

The first one was the most idiotic commercial that I have ever seen.

movieking 02-10-05 08:29 PM

Check that: those two commercials were idiotic.

Detective Thorn 02-10-05 08:35 PM

Both of those were awful!

The second one had transitions that you typically only see in bad PowerPoint presentations.

ClarkKentKY 02-10-05 08:58 PM

The commercial Dove made was as bad as the two made by the teams.

j123vt_99 02-10-05 08:58 PM

the boardrooms keep getting more ridiculous... this time, both teams get brought in.. last week, they try to get rid of the exempt guy, the week before the guy basically says he should be fired... just so over the top

Jadzia 02-10-05 09:13 PM

What was up with that bitchy actress? Are out of work actresses that hard to come by in New York? She was all high & mighty about waiting for two hours. She should have used that time to put some makeup on or something. She wasn't exactly a great beauty or anything.

LiquidSky 02-10-05 09:15 PM

What a bunch of asshats. There is not one contestant this season that I like.

If the product was geared towards women, it was a horrible idea to have the phallic cucumber and homosexual ending. That weasley little turd came up with the idea and then immediately backpeddled when it failed claiming it did not reflect his morals. I wonder if he does the same as an attorney? Does he go against his "morals" in everyday business? The anti-gay sentiment by some of the men on the booksmarts team pissed me off. If anything, it was the cucumber hand job that was offensive. Carolyn was correct: this is a women's product and the message in the commercial was: the two men go off together and she is left with a cucumber. Not good for selling a product to heterosexual women.

The Ashlee Simpson looking attorney gets on my nerves with her doe-eyed act.

Now, if the commercial was geared towards gay men, then the two guys at the end would be great....but skip the cumcumber bit.

*********

Street smarts: The team leader was obnoxious. Horrible commercial as well.

Frankly, the real commercial Dove created was dull....not sure how it was "outside the box".

Oh, but I bet she has a tight ass body. I can't wait for that Maxim shoot.

:)

Playgirl should do a photo spread with some of the male contestants....except that weasly little turd with the cucumber idea, greasy hair, and goofy bowties.

Everyone makes fun of me, but I think that Ashlee Simpson and this woman are hot as hell.

Josh-da-man 02-10-05 09:38 PM

Bren further proves my theory that Republicans and sex just don't mix. My God, it looked like an old Vivid movie.

I don't know what they were expecting from the contestants, though. Filmmaking involves many skills -- writing, direction, cinematography, lighting, editing -- that have to be learned. You can't just through a random group of people without experience in those areas into a studio and expect them to come up with anything good.

Ashlee cast a spell on you with her hoe-down jig on SNL ;)

It's true! I've been hyp-no-tized!

Ashlee Simpson has a decent body and a fair face. I don't think she's hot as hell but I don't think she is unattractive either. The girl from The Apprentice is way more attractive.

I think I was able to figure out which meaning you were using based on context clues.

Gil Jawetz 02-10-05 10:32 PM

Didn't see the ep (was out seeing Million Dollar Baby)... what NBC spin-off channel reruns it and when again?

 I couldn't help but think of Homer's video he made for Ned. "Star wipe!"

As for some of the other posts in this thread...-rolleyes-...come on guys, this isn't "Adult Talk."

CNBC re-runs it on Friday night for certain...they also run it a few more times before next Thursday, just not sure of the exact dates.

I think she had no intention of leaving. She just wanted to put on that fake diva act so the morans would fall all over themselves to apologize.

The "porno" commercial... oh my god! The whole time I was thinking "you cannot be serious!!" That should have been an idea they all had a good laugh over and moved on, but they freaking went with it! I don't know who showed more stupidity: the guy who suggested it or the rest of the dopes for going along with it.

The other team had a decent idea, but the production was absolutely horrible. Big John should have been in charge of the direction because he actually understood the concept, but the idiotic PM thought she had experience because her boyfriend is a "director." She was a joke and deserved to be fired. Carolyn was right, who puts soap right on top of sweat without any water. That's just nasty.

Achtung 02-11-05 12:19 AM

Man, those commercials were laughably terrible. I mean seriously, maybe the funniest thing I've seen all week. It wasn't even down to the directing--the actors were bad too, especially whiny diva bitch. For that kind of bitchiness, you could get J-Lo.

That and Mister "I AM NOT A HOMOSEXUAL!" both had me rolling. rotfl

Surprisingly enough, I actually don't mind the Republican attorney. And for the record, I don't care for Ashlee Simpson, but the one that looks like her ain't too bad.

Trelach24 02-11-05 12:44 AM

I think I spotted the black guy this episode! What do I win?

What is the deal with that guy? I don't notice him at all during the tasks and then suddenly there he is in the board room blurting out the weirdest stuff.

I feel like the Donald is just punking viewers of this show nowadays.

movieking 02-11-05 06:31 AM

I think that Ashlee looking chick is hot; Ashlee, herself, is not.

I wish Trump would decide whether or not he is following the "rules". Be consistent, dammit!

He is most likely a closet case....seemed to protest a bit too much :)

I thought the same exact thing, for someone who knows directing, because her boyfriend is in the business, you would think she would have come up with better. I was glad she got fired, she even said she was running this commercial alone, and was just giving people random tasks to keep them busy. In the end it was everything she did that made the commercial bad. I also found it funny, that she wasn't going for... "funny" in the commerical, when that was the whole idea and concept (although I don't think the idea was ever going to turn out as funn as it was conceived). She should have never sent the guy who came up with the idea off to do the music, it was his concept let him do it and fall on his face if it fails. She definitely doesn't have enough personality or creativity to be the director.

The other teams sucked too, but you really couldn't pin it on one person, they all went along with a terrible idea.

I do think this task was above both of the teams heads. You can't expect people with no experience to write, direct, and put together a TV quality commercial.

Also, that one guy is scary, the "I'm not a homosexual" guy. He is so quiet, but when he speaks, his tone sounds like pure hatred.

Last year, all things considered, it came down to one commercial that was reasonably well made but conceptually too militaristic and one commercial that was well made and well thought out.
The problem this year is that these people are all retarded.

Absolutely. Ye Gods, that was AWFUL! Have these college grads ever SEEN a commercial? The only thing that came to mind for me was in the movie "Scrooged", where the 7-Up / Live And Let Die guy shoots a horribly inapropriate commercial. But that was in a comedy movie, not real life. Seriously what were they thinking?

The "real" Dove ad was no winner (and certainly not very "out of the box"), but it wasn't really helped by the Donald & Caroline intro. Yuck. Hope they were paid well for that.

And am I the only one who thinks there is something funny with one of Erin's eyes? They don't point in the same direction, at least when she talks to the camera.

Perhaps her boyfriend is Uwe Boll . . .

Fok 02-12-05 10:49 PM

Glad that crabby face bitch got fired. He still should of fire someone from the other team as well.

Patman 02-13-05 08:52 AM

The thing about Erin is that she can look totally different depending on her choice of hairstyle (bangs covering her forehead, or no bangs and showing off her forehead).

I'm thinking she might've been encouraged to be difficult by "Apprentice" producers. There's just no other explanation why she'd want to look like a diva on national TV.

Maybe I missed something, what rules did he break?

The only thing I remember close was Trump did hem and haw a bit when asked if the exempt guy could be fired, then later (when it was just the three) said absolutley not. If he was adamant from the beginning that he could not be fired, Danny may have not brought him in. Then again, editing may have played a factor in this impression.

shoppingbear 02-14-05 06:08 PM

Oh, I took Movieking's comment as meaning he broke the rules in THIS ep, not the previous one.

True. There are times that she looks like she's in disguise. There's something very strange about her in my opinion.
