"24" -- Is this the most stupid 'threat' this show has had?

I've only watched season 2 and parts of season 1 and have followed this season since the beginning.

So the threat is that the terrorists have a device that will cause 6 nuclear reactors to meltdown.

Are we to believe these nuclear plants are unmanned?

Nuclear plants 'melt down' when the rods dont dip in and out of the pool of water effectively.

Are we to believe there is NO POSSIBLE WAY to manually lower the rods into cooling tanks?

Theres NO WAY to cut the remote link between the device and the power plants???

Now i know theres 1000s of 'wink-wink' moments in any series but this 'terrorist threat' has got to have the most holes of any of them.

But the terrorists have the secret decoder ring, and that cool animated graphic said something to the effect of "Threat Level: Critical". It even flashed in red. What more do you need to know?

Don't forget the briefcase has "Bad MF" on it.

I was thinking they need to go back to something simple like the first season. Planned attack on a person. Scale things down a bit. It is getting quite over the top. Maybe have a kidnapping/assasination attempt on a scientist who has found a cure for cancer/AIDS or figured out how to run a car engine on water. Of course those are pretty simple concepts, but aren't too over the top to be unbelievable.

I'm sure we don't know all there is to know about the "threat" yet.

Relax Ferris...it's a soap opera for 18 to 35 year old males. It's supposed to be fun. If I were going to get upset about something, I'd get more upset about the depcition of Arab-Americans than whether a terrorist could really melt down a power plant or not.

BTW, I agree with the last poster...I think the Power Plants may be a red herring.

To be fair, they did sever the link to all but 6 plants by, um, opening a socket and rebuiling the kernel. Or something.

Probably the most unrealistic, yes. At least on the scale that the show portrays it.

Which will get blamed on the President somehow, so they'll have to break the Cabinet Vote 3.0 software out and see if he can be removed from office.

Cabinet Vote 3.0 software
I'm pretty sure Tony has a copy of that at his place.

Unrealistic? I don't think you understand - the terrorists planned a distraction so that no one responsible for nuclear power plants would have any idea this was happening. See? How could they manually do anything? They're distracted!

Heck i like the show its just that it seems silly that they cant control a power plant with 1000s of engineers working there.

Even if its a red herring, the premise is wayy too silly.

A hidden nuke/virus/assination is a fine threat. Who cares about trying to outdo previous season threats.

How will you know how good or bad it is if you dont watch for yourself.

Realism has never been "24's" strong point. It's escapist entertainment.

What's next, saying there is no way Sydney could jet to Europe and back by Dinner??

They do that during the commercials. As soon as they see that timer, they're in the bathroom.

Bathrooms are to be used exclusively by moles to leak information to their outside contact. It's CTU policy.

I suppose if you really wanted to you could have firefighters run back and forth throwing concrete into the open core.

With Enterprise going off the air after this season, the ragging has to go somewhere.
