Lost DVD Update + spoilers -- text spoilerized

Damon Lindelof (co-creator) said that a DVD set of the first season will come out this summer, before a second season begins in the fall.

Warning....article is interesting but includes potential spoilers. They are minor spoilers to me, but may not be to you.

It briefly touches on the the whole "science fiction vs science fact."

Spoiler:

Lost Answers Are Out There

Damon Lindelof, co-creator of ABC's hit series Lost, told SCI FI Wire that he and fellow executive producers J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk have carefully worked out the answers to the castaway island's mysteries, including the nature of the unseen jungle monster, some of which may be revealed by the end of the first season. "Every mystery that we present on the show-What is the monster? Where does Ethan come from? Why hasn't Claire had her baby yet?-all those are questions that we know the answers to," Lindelof told reporters at the network's winter press tour in Universal City, Calif. "But how and when we present those answers is not written in stone. ... Hopefully we ... won't betray the audience. ... All I can say is, we're trying, we're doing our best, and we think the answers that we have are pretty cool."

Lindelof said that a DVD set of the first season will come out this summer, before a second season begins in the fall. As the show progresses, he added, it won't venture too far into science fiction as its mysteries unfold. "We're still trying to be ... firmly ensconced in the world of science fact," he said in an interview. "I don't think we've shown anything on the show yet ... that has no rational explanation in the real world that we all function within. We certainly hint at psychic phenomena, happenstance and ... things being in a place where they probably shouldn't be. But nothing is flat-out impossible. There are no spaceships. There isn't any time travel."

As the first season winds up, expect guest stars, including former The X-Files star Robert Patrick, Lindelof said. "I think part of the fun of our show is that guest stars can pop up in flashbacks, and it'll be a real surprise to the audience," he said. "Instead of stunting it or promo'ing it that way, to suddenly see Robert Patrick on an episode of Lost, I think, is potentially very exciting for people. I'm kind of sorry that slipped out." Patrick appears in a scene during a flashback involving Sawyer (Josh Holloway). What about Keri Russell, who starred in Abrams' earlier series, Felicity? "Well, I don't know if she'll turn up on Lost or [Abrams' other ABC show] Alias or anything, but her and J.J. are always threatening to work together again, so it could happen anytime or anywhere. Keep your eyes peeled." Lost airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Additionally, this week's TV Guide also has articles about Lost with spoilers.

Yep, I've been meaning to post about that since I got the issue in the mail a few days ago. If I have time later, I'll transcribe some of it, since most of the text of the articles (including what seems like a fair amount of spoilers) doesn't seem to be online on their "cover story" page: TV guide

My bad luck, out of the six possible covers, I got the one with "Kate" on the cover, not one of the guys on it (yeah, I'm a girl, and YEAH they are TOO )...

Wowza, Sayid looks smoking on that cover...

I've been getting 2 copies of TV Guide for a few weeks (I had a free subscription that's about to expire and signed up again for free so for a few weeks I have 2 copies). Anyway, I was thrilled to get the one with Kate... the other one is Jack. So I guess my wife and I are happy...

I saw Sayid on one of those nightly entertainment shows and he had a British accent (I think)... seemed funny since I was used to his accent on "Lost".

For us guys, here is Kate and a couple shots of the rest of the cast....

The good news: I got the Kate cover.

The bad news: I was really hoping for the Allie cover. At least I didn't get Chip, though.

I got the Locke TV guide cover. Why couldn't they sent me the Kate cover instead? Or better yet, Claire cover!

I'll trade you my Kate cover for your Sayid!

And whoever said he had a British accent, that doesn't surprise me. I think he's actually east Indian... at least, he's in an upcoming Bollywood/Hollywood-crossover movie, "Bride and Prejudice". Reason enough to see it for me!

Interesting article...

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) The high cost of shooting a TV series in Hawaii may cause the producers of "Lost" to seek a new home for the show.

The first-year ABC series, which has helped the network make a big ratings turnaround this season, films on a soundstage and several outdoor locations on the island of Oahu. It's provided an economic boon to the state's film industry and provided crew jobs to a number of locals.

But filming a movie or TV show in Hawaii typically costs 25 percent to 35 percent more than shooting in Los Angeles does, and that has "Lost's" studio, Touchstone TV (which, like ABC, is owned by Disney), concerned.

"Nobody wants to move, but this is a business and we must consider options to cut expenses," producer Jean Higgins tells the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Touchstone spends between $2.5 million and $2.8 million per episode to make "Lost," a high number for any series, and will likely lose money on the show this season despite its status as a top-10 show in the Nielsen rankings. The show's reliance on location shooting -- its soundstage contains only one major set -- contributes to that cost.

State officials are working to come up with a plan, possibly involving tax credits and other incentives, to help keep the show in Hawaii. Ted Liu, director of the state's economic development department, is hopeful that "Lost" will remain in Hawaii.

"[T]hey've been successful here, and the cast and crew are happy," Liu tells the paper. "If I were a producer, I would say, 'Why tinker with a model that's worked?'"

The IMDb lists London as his birthplace. While this doesn't necessarily mean anything, he had a pretty convincing British accent in Rollerball, which I was unfortunate enough to see the last few minutes of on cable a couple months back.

I don't want to read any spoilers but I would like to know the DVD info. Is it possible to start a thread only about the DVD side of things? Or would that give something away for some reason? I won't be opening this thread looking for the answers to these questions so either a DVD thread will pop up or it won't...
