Battlestar Gallactica question

First, I never watched the original Battlestar Gallactica. Second, I have the 3 hour mini-series tivo'd but I haven't watched it yet. Third, I've tivo'd all the episodes of the new series so far (two or three?). Fourth, I have so many shows set up as season passes, that it will be hard to catch up with this show.

My questions:

If I never watched the original and I don't watch the 3 hour mini series (don't have time), will I know what's going on?
Is it worth watching now or will it probably run consecutively in re-runs this summer (and I can watch it then)?

SciFi rarely reruns a series, so you better grab it whilst you can.

I never saw the original..it's just a remake (but updated for 2004-05)...if you start from the new pilot ..you'll get what's going on ...pretty much..I think if you have them recorded..give it a watch..if you don't like it..you can stop..don't know about reruns over the summer but I guess it's possible..a eventualy dvd release date is also probable depending on how well it does ..and I guess if they renew for a second season..it's been airing in the UK for months now, so if they prepare some sort of DVD release for the UK, I'm sure most of what they will do will also be ready for whenever they're ready for a US dvd release ..I've enjoyed it sofar and have no real background information about the original show...

You will definitely NOT know what is going on if you never watched the original or new mini-series & just start w/ the first episode of the new series. I don't remember the original & started with the new mini-series on DVD & I had no problem knowing what was going on & really dig the series. The new mini-series needs to be watched since the on-going series spins off of the events of the mini-series.

Just watch it when you get a chance & then the rest as time alots. Or just wait for the DVD box sets as I do. I don't have time to commit to a show every week so I just wait for the box sets, there is no rush to watch the stuff.

I never watched the original, but i did watch the mini-series and i'm enjoying the show a lot. I may be missing out on some inside references, but i don't see the original series as required reading for the new series.

watch the miniseries at a minimum
it's diferent enough from the original that all watching that will do is make you notice the little details of the new that pay homage to it.

You lose very little by not having watched the original series. I would however, watch the mini series before the actual series episodes.

The Mini-Series is an absolute must in my opinion. I really think if you watch it and the first couple episodes you will be hooked this show is truly awesome, and it just gets better and better towards the end of the season.

Thanks all, now I just have to figure out when I'll have time to watch a 3 hour mini-series. I'm already about 2 weeks behind on my other 38 season passes.
