Paige Davis Gone From Trading Spaces
I just wanted to take a minute to say goodbye. As you may have heard, TLC is taking Trading Spaces in a new creative direction. They are moving into a host-less format and therefore I will no longer be in the cast of the show. My last episode will premiere in March and in the meantime I'll be looking toward my next adventure and what will hopefully be a bright future — and a lot more time with Patrick and Sophie. :-)
I cannot begin to explain what an incredible journey this show has been for me. I love Trading Spaces so much and I am very proud of what the cast and crew has brought to you. I have loved working with the amazingly talented cast. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting all our homeowners. And it's been a thrill meeting awesome and dedicated fans like you all over the country. I will miss my friends very much, but I know they all wish me well and send me off with their love and support; and I am sure that Trading Spaces will still be a fabulous and fun show for all of you to watch. I will certainly be watching and cheering them on.
With much gratitude,
Paige
Press Statement:
"TLC is taking Trading Spaces in a new creative direction, transitioning to a "host-less" format this spring. As a result, Paige Davis will be leaving the cast of Trading Spaces. We believe that this new creative direction will enable the show to be more spontaneous, focus more on the homeowners and designers, and create alternative home trades in different cities and on opposite coasts.
Paige helped make Trading Spaces a great success for the network and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
Paige's last new episode will premiere in March, with repeat episodes of Trading Spaces airing throughout the year."

Sorry to see Paige Davis go, but I stop watching Trading Spaces long ago when the only competent person Vern Yip left. And they got "designers" who were like kindergartners.
Actually come to think of it, every home improvement show I used to watch on TLC, I stop watching, While You Were Out is another one that comes to mind.
I get my fix with Home & Garden Network, and BBC's original Changing Rooms.

I stopped watching when I realized most of the designers a) didn't care what the homeowners liked and didn't like and b) used shoddy construction to get it done.
That said, I always liked Paige.

There was a rumor a month or two ago all over about her having the next celeb sex tape. Maybe those rumors are true, and they are booting her now before it comes out so they won't have to deal with all the backlash that they'll get from it.

I canceled my Season Pass awhile back. For a little while, I was still Tivoing and just watching the reveals at the end, but even that got tedious.
To echo some of the comments above, the new designers sucked. It became less about designing a beautiful, functional room for the homeowners, and more about what gimmicky crap Hildi could put on walls. I hated the staged nature of this show. Why not just have some cameras filming the progress of the two rooms and edit together? Why do we need to designers ridiing on horses or racing go-karts, or doing other stupid stuff? Show me how to do things to fix up my house. That is really where this show lost its footing, it became less about DIY and more about designer ego.

Best designing show is not on TLC. Switch over to HGTV and watch Candice Olsen on "Devine Designs."

Paige gone?
She was the worst part of the show.
Although this does remind me of the episode where Doug went home. Well this was filmed close by and my mother talked to one of the people (doug's sister in law i believe) I was informed that Paige is nice on camera but an utter b*tch off camera.
Frank and Vern were the only ones on the show who had great designs.

Sorry to see Paige go...I like her.
I'm in agreement with the others: seems like many of the designers don't give a damn what people like or dislike and act like jerks if confronted (Doug, Hildie, and especially Kia).
I always liked Vern's rooms as long as he stayed away from the silk and I usually like Laurie's rooms.
How about that UGLY ass all-black room Doug did for his brother and nephew?

Frank? Good designs? You've got to be kidding. The only designer still on the show with any talent is Laurie. Her rooms consistently look good. meanwhile, Frank is out back blasting a bench with a shotgun.

For what it's worth, from the futon critic:
UNTITLED PAIGE DAVIS/NATE BERKUS PROJECT (Syndication, New!) - "Trading Spaces" host Paige Davis and interior designer Nate Berkus reportedly will be the focus of the latest "Oprah Winfrey Show" spin-off (a la "Dr. Phil"). The project, which is being targeted for a fall 2006 premiere, would feature the pair - who are frequent guests on "Oprah" - in an unspecified format. King World/Paramount Domestic Television's Terry Wood is understood to be spearheading the project, full details of which are still in the early stages of development.

Anyway, like everyone else, I stopped watching a while back too. It just got too silly. The show won't work without Paige, though. Even if she was annoyingly perky, she was the glue that held everything together. You only need watch an episode of Trading Spaces: Family to see how valuable she was. I too miss Vern. That guy was good.

I haven't watched in a while. Is Laurie the redhead? If so her designs were too 'out there' for me. Bizarre color choices and just all around weird/odd design.

I didn't watch this show much, but my wife did and I absorbed some of it.
Paige: Perky, sometimes a little annoying, but overall added some energy and delineation to the show.
Designers: I agree, it's now more of a 'Let's see how weird we can get, and damn the homeowner's needs!" More than once I've heard something like "That dresser is an antique from my great grandmother, so please leave it alone." "First thing we'll do, remove the knobs, varnish, paint, and shellac this old thing." Um, okay.
Show format: Annoying as hell. I *hate* that theme song. Perhaps mainly because it played for 20 minutes an hour, almost 24 hours a day. And the MTV photography, jump cuts, and stupid stuff is annoying, but that's not isolated to this show [unfortunately].
Paige in porn: hmm.. That lends new meaning to the term 'trading spaces'. I'll stop there, since this isn't Mature.

This is interesting news and really confirms, unfortunately that TS is just about done. I had no clue that Vern had left - was there a reason?? I had noticed he wasn't on as frequently though.
Truth be told I stopped watching regularly about a year ago. I probably did watch it hardcore for a few years - even before it was popular and moved to prime time.
The reason I think it ended up going down hill is apparent on several accounts (some already mentioned):
1) Some of the designers didn't care what the people wanted. Hildi annoys me the most with this. Chicken feathers, carboard, etc....??!?!? If you ever watch Changing Rooms they at least try to accomodate to what the owners want even if they do try to use a creative method to get there.
2) I wasn't sure it was people leaving (was not aware Vern left), as much as they brough on too many new people. There were people popping up who I would say "Who the heck is that?" I always enjoyed the core group: Jenaveve (sp), Vern, Frank, Laurie and Doug - probably forgot one or two.
3) Branching off too much with TS:Family and too many carpenters, etc...
There are a few more things, but I'm running short on time. Even before I heard this news, this past weekend I had said I thought it was done for. It looks like Doug is getting his own show "Moving on Up"; Jenaveve has her own show "Town Haul"..., etc.

Yeah, at some point, "Trading Spaces" became Let's see how badly we can fuck up someone's house and they won't bitch because they're on TV.
It's like an Interior Decorating Fear Factor.

It's obvious that Hildi and Kia are horrible designers and difficult to work with (and Doug as well to a lesser degree), but I do really like the new designer they brought in (John). He was a member of the team, with his wife, that won the tournament last season to pay for his mortgage.
I've seen a couple of his rooms and they were outstanding and definitely took the homeowners needs and desires into play. His elephant "chandelier" for those folks wanting an African style room was imaginitive and cool as hell.
Laurie and Frank can be good as well. The blonde (Laura?) and her friend are both just horrible.
