You have a remote. More crap for more quality is a very good trade-off. You don't have to watch the crap, but you can always take advantage of the additional quality.

Agreed if you add HBO the last 15 years have been amazing. The Shield, The Wire ect ect ect.

I humbly disagree. I think there have been a lot of good shows over the past 15 years. My point is though, that there are more crappy shows per good shows than before the mentioned 15 years. Also a lot of the writting is no more than a rehash of much erlier shows, that a lot of the younger audiences would usually not catch.

The Shield is actually on FX, who has put out it's own crop of really good shows in the last few years.

For me, such shows are usually running in the background while I'm doing other things around the house, I guess. They're not the kind of shows that I plan my schedule around (unlike Scrubs, Arrested Development, CSI, 24, and Lost).

You misunderstand. I have more of a life; married, kids, more responsibility at work, a house to keep up etc. These things has cut my tv viewing down drastically. My comment was not intended as a negative remark to anyone.

Mine was a lot more insightful, I explained why I felt that way. Rather than get pissy b/c I don't like something you do, you could explain why you think all scripted television "sucks".

American Idol - just plain terrible and you would think people would stop watching by now since none of the so called idols have become famous and no, their 15 minutes does not make them stars.

Especially in light of some of the sweeping comments about entire genres of shows like I can understand not liking some shows, but entire genres, especially in light of their obvious popularity? :hscratch: The OP's question is "Why is _____ still on the air?", and it's an easy answer: because they're popular. Like Goose said, doesn't make anyone here better or worse because they do or don't like those shows.

Ironically, I was thinking about starting a topic like this just this morning, when on the radio I heard:

Why in the world is 7th Heaven still on, and who watches it?

If not for it's rich history, I'd say who still watches Saturday Night Live except for the people who like the guest host or the people who watch in hopes that it will be even a little bit funny.

Of course, I'm married to a woman that likes both America's Funniest Home Videos and most reality TV (I admit, I actually like a bit of reality tv too...)

I never said anywhere that one person is better than the other b/c of what they watch. I don't find it telling, that it's always the people that watch reality TV that get upset.

I know reality TV is still on the air b/c it's popular, but I don't understand why it's so popular, so that is why I said "all".

:lol: I turned this on the other night for the first time in probably a year and a half. Watched about 20 minutes before I couldn't take anymore. Dreadful. Weekend Update is and always will be the strongest part of the show for me, unless Colin Quinn is the anchor, and I did enjoy it the other night.

Well hell, thanks for pointing it out in your opion that I am a loser. I have been watching AFV since it started. I think it is a good family show that lets us all laugh for an hour on Sunday night. Is there anything wrong with that? Besides it's better than all the other crap in the 6pmCST time slot. BTW I have never sent in a video.
