Ok. Went out for burgers with a friend after work, and he was telling me about a couple of shows he remembered from the 80's. I looked them up before and he said what found was wrong, so I told him I would ask here.

Family lives on something like a preserve, with wild animals, probably Australia. He says one character that periodically appeared looked just like Linda Hamilton.
Sounded like Daktari to me, but he said that's wrong.
