voom spent millions to net 26k customers
so I doubt Dish wanted anything else except for the satellite.

^^ that is what I am wondering. If anyone is going to bother to pick up equipment. Would be sweet if they didn't because it would probably still function as an OTA HD receiver.

They are still scheduling installs - mine is set for 2-14-05. If they go under it will be no huge loss for me with the $1 install I am paying. I only have a six month commitment if the service begins to suck, and I am not letting them auto draft my account. Worse case scenerio I lose the service soon. Best case (if they go under) I get a local antenna that they may not come and get if they do go under. It appeared to be the best service and at an affordable price - that is why I am giving it a try.

I've had Voom for some time now. I've been mostly pleased with it. It doesn't work well in rain though.
According to that article, they only had 26,000 subscribers. I would have expected much much more by now.
Anyway, maybe I'll get a free receiver out of it.

Sorry to see it go. I'd hate to go with DirectTV(with their cable co. like pricing), but the super bowl ads for their new HD were quite enticing.

Cablevision Systems Corp. (CVC) Chairman Charles Dolan, in a further sign that he is determined to keep his Voom satellite service operating, has told the Federal Communications Commission that he is in the process of making a $400 million personal commitment to the business, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Cablevision also is talking to a group of private equity firms led by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. about possibly joining their bid for Adelphia Communications Corp. (ADELQ), which is in the final stages of being auctioned.
Analysts are speculating that the joint bid with the private-equity firms might be tied in to Mr. Dolan's need to raise cash for Voom. Cablevision's discussions with the firms were reported Tuesday by the New York Times.
In his filing with the FCC, Mr. Dolan also has taken the highly unusual step of challenging the decision made by Cablevision earlier this year to sell Voom's only operating satellite to EchoStar Communications Corp. (DISH) for $200 million . Mr. Dolan clearly is trying to block the sale so that he can buy the satellite himself.
The filing is the latest twist in his struggle to save Voom, and his willingness to invest $400 million of his own money raises the likelihood that he will put Cablevision on the block to finance the venture, analysts say.

my mailer gave me an offer for addition rooms for $5 each, now, instead of the previous $14.50 per room. Much more reasonable and I think I might take them up on it so I can dump the cable co. in the other rooms.

If these channels are off the Voom satellite at 61.5, then not everyone can get them. I have the DISH 500 (119 & 110) and my second dish points to 148. Let's hope they plan to mirror the channels on 148. I used to work at Dish years ago, and they are idiots, so it woulnd't surprise me if they only transmitted these on 61.5.
The guys at the DBS message boards aren't sure either, but they are saying DISH plans to carry all 21 Voom channels in 2006. Here's a newswire blurb:

Rainbow also announced today that it has concluded its first major carriage agreement for the channels with EchoStar Communications Corporation, which will carry ten of the HD channels on its DISH Network, expanding to carry all 21 channels by 2006.
