And another round of auditions tonight.
While that girl was belting out "Greatest Love of All," it occurred to me just how fucking excruciating it must be to have to sit there all day and listen to all of these shrill r and b numbers. Migraine city. I thought the mime girl was kind of cute. The guy who sang The Darkness "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" wasn't quite as bad as shown if you're familiar with the original. But the only really interesting singer was the goth chick who did "Phantom of the Opera." She sort of looked like a punked-out Rainbrow Brite, but she had decent pipes. They should've had her sing a second song, just to better show her range. |
That last guy (who did James Brown) reminded me of The Cat from Red Dwarf.

WTF was up with Paula about to have a meltdown if Simon and Randy didn't send the last guy to Hollywood? He was decent, but there were others she said no to who were far better. And I think some of her "i'm pissed and about to quit the show" stuff this season is all for show. Someone must have told her to stop being so sweetie-pie nice and bring out bitchy Paula. It seems a little forced at times, though.
I like how Simon kept mentioning to the fat people that even though they had a great voice, they're not American Idol material because of their "image". they were all kinda hesitant about letting that one guy through (the one who's dad thought he was a loser), even though his voice was one of the strongest of the night. I'm just curious, because I didn't see much of season 2, but did they bash Ruben a lot about being ginormous? I started watching toward the end and all i remember was how much of a cuddly velvet teddy bear everyone thought he was. |
Sarah, one of the heavy girls who sang decent, reminded me of Michael Moore.

All I know is... Paula looked OMG HOT!!! in that shirt in Cleveland. Has she had her... "assets" enlarged, or was it just the shirt?? I know I'm not crazy, 'cos my GF noticed it too - even mentioned it before I did!

I don't know what Paula saw in that James Brown guy. She probably liked the dancing thing, which was okay but completely derivative. And I suppose she liked his looks... but his singing? It was just a not-great James Brown impression... and I don't really consider JB to be a great *voice*, truth be told. He's a helluva entertainer, but not someone I would pull out for a singing competition. Honestly, if he was ugly and not dancing would she have loved his voice so much?

I don't understand what happens when 2 judges vote no and 2 vote yes. I thought it was a no. But that Elizibeth girl (the one in the stripper type netting costume) got 2 nos, then a yes from Paula, then Simon said she was going to Hollywood. How did that work?
|
I think it comes down to how the 3 main judges vote...Since it was Paula and Simon who had the yes votes, its actually 2 to 1 instead of 2 to 2.

I've had enough of the mass auditions now. Bring on the next round. That fainting mother was starting to piss me off. Someone should've kicked her when she was down.
|
They had 2 different 2-2 ties, and one time the contestant went to Hollywood, and the other time they were given the boot.
I can't believe the Freddie Mercury wannabe made it through. Glad one of the twins didn't make it, he wasn't that good, and I could care less about the boy band style of singing anyway. The chick in the skimpy outfit couldn't sing in tune, she should not have been sent to Hollywood. Just because you can sing loud doesn't mean you can sing well. |
OMG
I think that "high talker" guy who loved Kelly Clarkson used to post here at DVDTalk. He may not be the American Idol, but he did make the "band." LOL |

I'm very surprised that Orlando got such a low profile during this auditions phase. After all, it was the birthplace of the so-called "teen pop explosion" of the mid-90s. And I consider "American Idol" to be a type of by-product of that age. I expected a whole show to be devoted to finding talent in Orlando.....not 25 minutes.
