NYPD Blue "Stratis Fear" -- 01.18.2004

Spoiler:
Sipowicz and Clark investigate the murder of a successful immigrant restaurateur with a taste for young girls, Ortiz learns the Joint Narcotics Task Force is after her cousin's boyfriend, and Jones finds himself probing a retired cop about the murder of his paralyzed son's wife.

What a depressing storyline involving Andy and John. But they handled it superbly, imo.

Kind of a "meh" episode.

Cant Ortiz's cousin still get in trouble? If they have evidence that she helped him distribute, they could still charge her with it.

I bet the arrest of Ortiz' cousin will somehow screw up the federal drug bust of the bf in AC.

The child molester storyline was depressing. My wife and I couldn't beleive the "girlfriend" who would let her daughter stay with the guy, knowing what he was.

If the Lt. finds out about Ortiz' interference to protect her cousin, he's gonna hit the roof.

I immediately recalled seeing that EXACT situation about 3-5 years ago on a police drama, and I'm pretty sure it was on Blue (maybe SVU).

Anyone else remember it.......?

Yeah, we haven't seen the rest of that story with Rita. Either something else happens with her cousin, or the LT finds out about the interference.

I guess she is no longer banging Lt. Rodriguez. Of course, with the FCC, I guess we have to go with the assumption that nobody has sex in the television world.

Stellar acting all around in the molestation storyline.
I still can't believe they'd cancel this show...

ABC is not cancelling it. Bochco is ending it.

Sorry--wrong word choice, though I knew that was the case.
I still can't believe Bocho would end such a great show, better than most of what's on regular TV. I know it's had a long run, but I hate to see a quality show gone when there's so much junk out there...

A big part of it is the FCC crack-down. He can't make the show the way he wants to.

Image how really good this show could be if someone like HBO picked it up. Guessing the ratings/following wouldn't justify the cost on a pay channel......

You don't even have to go that far. Look at how great and edgy the F/X dramas are.

I think it was a Law and Order episode where some famous guy - I'm thinking he was some kind of comedian/actor - was murdered and it comes out that he was paying parents to have their young sons sleep over at his house.

No, that's not it; I remember that ep.

It was definitely a woman not in the prime of her life; set in NYC; her boyfriend was molesting her daughter and she was looking the other way just so her boyfriend wouldn't leave her. In my minds eye I can see the episode being resolved with her in an interview room and making reference to not having many options to find a new boyfriend (so she didn't want to press charges?).

Since I don't watch too many cop shows, it has to be Blue or one of the L&O shows.....

I thought it was a good episode. I thought the molestation storyline was handled well eventhough it was creppy.

I agree Rita's story with the drugs isn't over.

All I kept thinking while watching this ep was how much I'm gonna miss it when the show's gone.

This is the only thing i've been able to think about while watching it..

besides hoping for one final nude scene from Rita...

It'll feel weird watching L&O:SVU "live" next season..

I'm happy to see it go. People either whine that they're getting rid of a great show (NYPD Blue) or that they don't know when to call it quits (That 70's Show). I'd prefer see Blue go out on top rather than drag it out until it's an embarrassment.

Say what you want, but the truth of the matter is that this is season 12. And good show or not, it's just not pulling in the ratings it used to. It was announced last year that this would be the final season unless ABC couldn't get some decent dramas to replace it. Desperate Housewives and Lost have been huge hits. So it's time to Blue to go. I'll miss it, but at least it's going out with it's head held high.

I guess I can look at it that way, b/c this season has been top notch, even with the FCC crackdown. I wasn't a fan of Connie, so that angle has been good. Still haven't made my mind up on Laura. She's kinda average as far as a character goes. Nothing too interesting. Meadavoy has been great this year. I do think Baldwin's character is lacking this season though. He had that thing with the kid at the beginning of the season, but that kinda puttered out. The new Lt. is a great foil for the entire squad. Makes everyone tense, including the viewers.

Well this is interesting:

Specifically, that "Ending the series was the suggestion of ABC, not Bochco, but the executive producer said he had no problem with the decision. "I'd rather leave the party an hour early than an hour late," he said.

I know people are paranoid, and in some cases rightly so, re the FCC, but I gotta say I really don't think Blue is a lesser show because there are less naked rear ends. I realize mileage may differ on this, but I still like the show the same.
