It looked like he was having some sort of breakdown. He's probably all on edge cause Rebecca's done with him once the race is over -- also he only finished the diving challenge on the Fast Forward because he was afraid of letting her down.

Regarding Jonathan being on lithium on the way to the Pit-stop: he's just being manipulative. He knew he was going to lose so he tried to act all rational and nice like he did when the cops pulled him over Bulgaria. He's in the entertainment business and he pulled out the best PR he could muster after looking like a freak the whole show. When he thought he still had a shot at not finishing last, he was yelling at Victoria; he only niced-up after he was sure they would finish last.

I fully expected him to push Victoria over the cliff as they walked off, holding each other, before the credits.

I still don't get Rebecca and Girlfriend Yielding Freddie and Kendra.

Best episode of AR this season.

FOX built its lead at 9 p.m. as the first of several "Idol" audition shows rose to a 19.5/28. CBS stayed in second with "The Amazing Race," 6.6/10. ABC moved up to third with "According to Jim," 5.8/9, and "Rodney," 5.0/7. NBC managed only a 4.1/6 with "Scrubs" and "Committed." "High School Reunion" kept The WB in fifth. UPN went with a rerun of "Veronica Mars."

Damfino 01-19-05 12:56 PM

I think this was perfect timing for OPOS & Victoria's elimination. They were around long enought to keep us entertained, but they're gone before they become a threat to win the money.

RE: Adam/Hellboy/Shrek & Rebecca... granted he's slow and dumb as a rock, but I'm starting to think Rebecca is just being a bitch.

AR7 in March! This is great! we're going to have 3 Amazing Races in 9 months and it's not that long ago that it was just Survivor's summer replacement.

Their combination of a positive attitude and skill at running the Race is refreshing to see, especially if you have viewed previous seasons of the Race. It's just not something that has happened often, if at all.

You have a short memory. Chip and Kim, winners, had a very positive attitude last season. They also did it without being too sugary-sweet. I'm not saying I am rooting against K&J. I am just saying that they are boring, which they are.

Of course, I wouldn't expect you to understand. It is like watching ESPN doing a Duke game or a piece on Coach K being a god.

movieking 01-19-05 01:15 PM

Just watched the interview on the Morning Show with J&V. He said that he is not like what we saw at all, it was just because of his competitive spirit. Yeah right. Victoria stood up for him when Harry Smith starting to ask him some pointed questions.

Hopefully, I won't see these idiots anymore, aside from them cheering on the winners at the finish line.

At best, all that they could have hoped for was a tie between Freddy/Kendra & Jonathan/Victoria, not a large lead over the last place team, which is all that really matters. The smaller margin of error they created almost caught them in the end, but not even hellgirl's ineptitude could prevent them from moving on to next week.

I got the feeling that Adam and Rebecca thought they were competing against Freddy/Kendra for the last spot and that Jon/Victoria had already done their task. Maybe Jon pretended to be finished with the task and egged Adam and Rebecca to yield F/K. But yeah, it doesn't make much sense to yield the second to last team behind you. Regardless, J/V argued too much and never noticed that they had only one + ass with them. goodbye.

Groucho 01-19-05 01:27 PM

Jonathan just hit Adam with a Jedi mind trick.

Not to mention that you would only want to yield the team that was certain to finish last when you are in danger of likewise, so no retribution will follow.

And had they yielded Jonathan/Victoria they likely would have been carried off the pit stop mat on the shoulders of the other contestants.

I think Kendra is racist - the type that thinks black people are ok if they are middle class+ and fitting in - but if they are in less fortunate circumstances then it is all their fault and they are just a blight; hence the way she characterizes them as if they are less than human, maybe friendly little puppy-type non-humans but still not the same as her. She couldn't care less about the history behind the way much of Africa is these days, as far as the colonial period and the effect of outside forces destabilizing and exploiting these countries - because as far as she is concerned they are countries full of sub-humans (the same reason we only say "what a shame" when millions of them die, instead of acting like it is a moral imperative to get involved like in the former Yugoslavia)

I don't think you can separate "ugly-americanism" from racism, when it is racism and ethnocentrism at it's core.

Blah!!! Don't make me puke. ;)

I liked Chip, but I thought Kim was a bitch who rode her husband's coattails all the way to the finish line. No comparison. :)

I think she would say the same sort of things about Appalachian "hillbilly" folk as well. Or European slums. There's probably a good word for it, but it's not necessarily race based. Otherwise she wouldn't like middle class, fitting in black folk either. That would be a true racist. Most likely anyone too different from her makes her uncomfortable. And she doesn't mind telling everyone about it either. She's very condescending, and in certain circumstances it comes off as racist.

This is pretty much how I view her, too. Not a complete, overt bigot, but more of a ignorant, oblivious and naiive one.

I think there are different shades of racism. I remember a guy I used to work with who told us that he used to work in a store and he hated when these young black guys would come in wearing hip-hop type clothes and speaking "ebonics", he said something like "Why do they have to act like that, why can't they be like normal people?" and then he went on to talk about the good normal black people that he has no problem with. That struck me as racism, and I somehow managed to hold my temper and kept the volume down as I gave him a verbal lashing for about 10 minutes - until my boss, who was listening the whole time, told me to ease up on the kid. (he was a freshman intern in our systems department)

Racism isn't only hating people because they are a different race. That kid was making a value judgment about young black males because they didn't conform to a standard that he arbitrarily set for what a "good" young black male is - the content of their character didn't matter at all.

There was an interview with J&V on EW tonight. It also said that Dr Phil would have them on some kind of relationship show on CBS on Feb 15 or 25 or something

I'm skeptical that we're going to see the real Jonathan on that show or any other show - he has been practicing his bs cover act for a while now, and he only let the guard down during the race. Now he'll be the guy who brought those people to the finish line last night, acting gracious and grateful.

Roto 01-19-05 09:32 PM

I had to laugh at Jonathon's load of shit speech. It's a tough world and if you can conquer anything in it you're doing well. Oh please!

mookiemeister 01-19-05 11:57 PM

It was getting a little painful to watch Jonathan and Victoria. I'm glad they are finally eliminated.

:rotfl: Yeah, I can't imagine the other teams are sorry to see them go. I'd love to see J/V explain all the comments over the entire race that indicate the other teams thought they were the disaster we all saw... how do you blame THAT on editing?? -ohbfrank- Naturally they'll never admit it, but it just makes me not at all sorry to see them leave.

Khalid 01-20-05 07:54 AM

They had Jonathan and Victoria on Entertainment Tonight and I was compelled to watch. They showed that clip in the cab where J looks like he's going to backhand V; she flinches and he pulls his arm down, then he goes back to reading the map he snatched from her. Of course we cut to present-day J, looking very calm and stable, lying about how AR cut the scene while his arm was still up and that made him look like he was about to hit her.

I feel sorry for her whiny-ass because she's just an enabler. I hope she really doesn't believe their cover-story that J is very calm at home and the nicest person in the world.

The camera, editing and the other contestants must all lie.
