I'm so glad they ditched 90% of the supporting cast, they're a big part of the reason I gave up on season 3 halfway through. Haysbert is the only one I liked of them. Much stronger start than season 3 here, some great moments (chilling tie in to reality with the picture of the captured Sec Def with the terrorists at the end). I'm hooked for now.

Those two hours flew by fast!! Tops "Alias" as the best season premiere in my book.
Agree that with a new cast/plot, the show feels more refreshing -- love William Devane's Heller, love Edgar, love hatin' Driscoll, the Araz family, and i'm glad to see Chloe back. I love the humorous moments they infuse the show -- that Michael Moore line was hella funny.
Made me forget the old cast - but i hope they make some sort of appearance , besides Allstate commercials.
Maybe "Alias" should do the same and get rid of some cast members rather than get desperate and do a retread of Season 1 .

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I am glad there won't be any reruns from
now until May. However, if I miss an episode, is there anyway easy way to get hold of it. I don't have broadband or TIVO. Do they ever replay the episodes on FX?

Off to a good start but you can tell after 4 years of twists and turns when something is going to take a turn in the opposite direction. It's not as exciting as it used to be the first two years.

Great start. When Lucas Hass' character ended up in a train station, I yelled "don't you remember what happened to you at the train station in "Witness"! Leave now!"
Did anyone see "House of Sand and Fog"? The mother and son of the Araz family were also mother and son in that film.
Despite what most people say, I actually find Chloe amusing. Maybe because she's ex-Mr. Show.

There is a whole different kind of enjoyment now. I knew Jack was going to shoot that guy, I was rooting for him. And I had the biggest smile on my face when he said there isn't enough time.
to the Michael Moore line as well. I thought that was great.

I was extrememly happy with the premier! Season 3 took me a few episodes before I was truly looking forward to the next episode; after hour 1 last night, I was thanking God that hour 2 was on immediately! And tonight there's 2 more!!! Woo-Hoo!!! Like many before me have said- this was such a great premier!
Question for all of you, though: I can't remember; at the end of Season 3, do we know what Tony's outcome was going to be? Did he get arrested? Is he in jail now? I thought they said a year and a half has gone by since last season, so maybe he's out now?

My bad about the frequency thing
I did notice Shoreeh Agabosho (sp?), She was a oscar nominated actress. Do not see many television shows with cast members that have been nominated for oscars. She brings up the cred of 24 much higher in my opinion.

How long has it been between end of S3 and start of S4.
PLUS BRAVO! to 24 for actually making the terrorists ARAB (shocking!)
Are the Turks arab? whatever.
Plus, I dont know what Kiefers politics are, but being D. Sutherlands son I always assumend he leaned left, yet he Ex Prod's a show where EVERY suspect is tortured, that Michal Moore line is delivered convincingly, and the Sec. of Defence is played as a tough guy who cares.
(Yet the NSA snuck a nuke into the country, so whatever)

My favorite part was when one of the captors told Devane to strip. He calmly took off his tie, rolled it up, and threw it in the guy's face.
Two more episodes tonight.

Ho-hum. It seems the show is on auto-pilot. Despite the new cast, it's playing exactly like earlier seasons, specifically Season 2...which also involved Jack being back from retirement "temporarily" and shooting a suspect within minutes. Based on the hype, I thought the show was going to be retooled and significantly different than earlier seasons.
I too enjoyed the "sixth grade Michael Moore logic" line.

I thought the 2 hour premiere was great. I'm now glad that Fox is airing all of the episodes at once without a rerun.
Glad to see that some Canadians actors are getting roles south of the border.
Can't wait for two more hours of 24 tonight.

I, too, liked it a lot. I like the slight political shift it has taken, as it seems they have shifted from a Democrat (Palmer) to a Republican president. While I'm not sure if they ever came out and said the party affiliations directly, it's still pretty clear. It will be interesting to see how they play this out.
I actually like the fact they cleaned house in the cast. My only complaint is that they should've used this opportunity to start really fresh. Why not move it to NYC or DC, or some city other than LA? I know the film production is in LA and it makes it asier, but still. Assuming they have CTU branches in every major city it would've been nice to have a change in scenery.

Sports-Aided '24' Rules Sunday for FOX
(Monday, January 10 08:22 AM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Fast National ratings Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005.
With an extra assist from Sunday NFL runover, FOX's new season of "24" got off to a solid start, helping the network claim a slim early ratings victory. However, due to the nature of live events, FOX's ratings are likely to change and ABC is looming in the wings.
Overall, FOX averaged a 10.8 rating/16 share for the night, narrowly beating ABC's 10.3/16. CBS was well back in third with a 7.9/12, still nipping NBC's 7.1/11. The WB may only have gotten a 1.8/3 for the night, but at least the network didn't have to air a new episode of "The Mountain."
FOX also won among adults 18-49, doing a 7.4 rating in the key demographic. ABC was behind, delivering a 7.2 rating for the night. NBC and CBS tied for third with the same 3.3 rating. The WB trailed with a 1.2 rating.
With Sunday sports coverage, FOX started the night in first with a 14.9/23. CBS' "60 Minutes" could muster only a 7.8/12 in second. ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" wasn't really close in third, edging the 5.5/9 for "Dateline NBC." The WB was fifth with "Steve Harvey's Big Time" and the beginning of the movie "There's Something About Mary."
ABC moved into first for the 8 p.m. hour with the 11.2/16 for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." CBS' "Cold Case" was second with a 10.2/15. FOX got a 9.0/13 from the first hour of the two-night "24" premiere, while NBC was a distant fourth with "American Dreams." The WB's movie was fifth with a 2.0/3.
At 9 p.m., "Desperate Housewives" had the evening's highest ratings with a 15.1/22 for ABC. NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" did an 8.6/12 to edge the 8.4/12 for hour two of FOX's "24," though the FOX drama pulled in more viewers. CBS' telecast of the People's Choice Awards did a 6.9/10. The WB was last again with the conclusion of its movie.
NBC won the night's final hour with the 9.8/16 for "Crossing Jordan." ABC wasn't far off as "Boston Legal" was at a 9.4/15. CBS' awards show followed in third.
