Jonny Zero: Will you even bother?
I've been seeing quite a few ads for the upcoming Fox show Jonny Zero. It looks interesting, but I'm torn. Is it worth my effort to watch a show on the Fox network, airing on Friday? Traditionally, any show Fox schedules for Friday ends up cancelled. Wonderfalls, Harsh Realm, Dark Angel, Boston Public, Freakylinks, Lone Gunmen, etc. etc.
What is the advance buzz, if any? And even if it is a good show, is it even worth the effort to get attached to it, knowing its likely fate?

But of course.

I suppose I should've added 'in recent years'. But seriously, has there been an hour long drama in the past five years that lasted more than a season after moving to Fridays on Fox? The last one I can think of is Milennium, and which lasted three seasons.
I didn't even get around to mentioning Firefly, John Doe, and Fastlane (moved to Friday halfway through its first and only season).

yeah I'll record it and give it a watch.. Many of the shows fox canned in the past right away were still worth watching when they were first shown.. Even if it's only for a few eps.. This show might be the same way?
How bad can it be? Sure the theme of a bad guy looking to make up for his past is some sort of lame (or at least played out) but heck that show about a vigilant taxi driver
made it two season right? Then again I never watched even one ep of that and I don't think it was one FOX..

What the fuck is wrong w/ the A-Team or a one-man version of it?

There is nothing wrong with the A-Team. A one-man A-Team produced by John Wells on the other hand.....

You're just afraid FOX will cancel it on you after you start to like it.

He's produced two of my favorite shows (ER, Third Watch), so I have to give the guy some credit.

I almost said The Equalizer (another good show) instead of One-Man A-Team, but The Equalizer wasn't running from the law. I guess the most accurate thing to say is that it is a cross between the 2.

Boston Public ran for what, 5 seasons? Again, it got run into the ground by writers.
Freakylinks was a stupid premise.
Lone Gunmen got really bad ratings. The X-Files fans just didn't go for it.
I've never heard of Harsh Realm, so I don't know.

Don't forget "John Doe."
I plan to give Jonny Zero a try. I read a couple of reviews. It has been compared to network version of shows like Oz, The Shield, etc. Basically, some great material tamed for a broader, broadcast audience, but keeping the integrity of the actors and the storylines. (One review said that the biggest way you knew it was for broadcast tv was that they had those moments of comic relief in every show that they don't have to resort to on HBO or FX). Of the reviews I read, most would be in the B+. If it fails, then I just lost a handful of hours (being mid-season, it will be a far less commitment than John Doe or Firefly, for example); if it succeeds, perhaps I've found a good Friday night show.
