Is 24 only a "guy's" show?

Hey all---

I just bought season 3 of 24 on DVD which is my favorite show I might add, and I ran into a "friend" of mine at checkout who saw the box and said "That show is nothing but guns, bombs, car chases etc and has no drama" This coupled with the fact that I saw mostly guys buying this at Best Buy when I was there makes me wonder Is 24 a guy show? What do you all think? Especially the ladies :)

my wife loves it! that and the sopranos are the only two shows we make an effort to watch together.

oh yeah, she also likes sportscenter...i guess im lucky :)

Building from a comment in another thread, 24 is essentially a soap opera with lots of shooting and yelling (unless you're at CTU ... then you suspiciously whisper), so it should appeal to both men and women. ;)

My wife loves it a lot more than I do.

Of course, my wife loves Star Trek and bad action movies a lot more than I do, so what the hell do I know.

Geofferson 12-08-04 04:21 PM

I few gals I know watch this show religiously (almost as religiously as they watch Alias).

rkndkn 12-08-04 04:23 PM

Definitely not just a "guy's show", but then, I generally dislike that crap women are supposed to like.

movielib 12-08-04 05:55 PM

My wife also loves it.

Don't you know? Women can watch shows with a male lead; it is only men who can't watch shows with female leads because they are dismissed as a "chick show". ;)

See: Gilmore Girls.

Uh oh. Does that mean I'm not male? -eek-

Boy won't my wife be surprised.

lisadoris 12-08-04 06:52 PM

I love 24 (though the last season was a bit weak) but being the sci-fi loving ESPN watching woman I am, I don't know if I embody the typical "female" demographic.

Jackskeleton 12-08-04 07:39 PM

No.

You're right. I've got to stop watching Desperate Housewives.

Sparrow 12-08-04 09:48 PM

No, I was eagerly anticipating receiving the Season 3 box set this week and have begun my marathon. Interesting observation Jadzia.

Elpresidentepez 12-08-04 10:58 PM

No it's not. In general i don't believe in "guilty Pleasures" or in this case men or women shows. If i like a show i watch it. Alias, the Sopranos, Lost, Desparate Houswives, Arrested Development, Gilmore Girls, The Shield, and 24 are the shows i watch.

If it ever gets out of hand, just remind her what his love-making style must be like.

Her: Do you think you could, uh, you know ...
Him: THERE ISN'T TIME!

Spoiler:
Her: Don't put it there.
Him: YOU GOTTA TRUST ME!!!

Mrs. Pusser enjoys it more than I do and a friend of mine said his wife really likes it.

Don't be ridiculous! 24 is a great show. It's actually one of the few scripted shows I watch.

Most definitely a show for both genders. I love 24. And Alias. And Lost. And Desperate Housewives. And Gilmore Girls. I could keep going, but I'll spare you. :) My point is that like these other shows, there are elements that appeal to both genders - comedy, drama, action, adventure, what have you. Well, not much comedy in 24, but the other three adjectives apply.

I'm a woman, by the way, in case my user id isn't clear. ;)

I should probably also say that I love action and sci fi shows/movies as much as period films/dramas/romantic comedies. I'm also not your typical girl, but that's a good thing, imo. Don't like sports though, except going to live baseball games. Lucky for me my boyfriend isn't a typical guy. :D

shimmoril 12-09-04 07:53 PM

Ug, why do people always have to classify a certain show or movie as a "chick flick" or a "guy movie"? Liking a TV show or movie has a lot more to do with personality than gender. To answer the question, I guess I'm another one of those untypical girls that likes 24 and sci-fi/fantasy TV shows and movies. My boyfriend and I look forward to the new season of 24 equally, but I am a bigger geek than he is! -ptth-
