Episode Title: "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues"

Spoiler:
Survivors wonder why Charlie and the pregnant Claire have been abducted - and by whom — and a search party ventures into the treacherous jungle to try to find and rescue the missing duo. Meanwhile, inner-demons about his father resurface for Jack, and Boone and Locke discover another island mystery.

LorenzoL 12-08-04 07:47 AM

I'll catch tonight's episode for sure. There is no way I'm missing this show two weeks in a row.

Trelach24 12-08-04 08:06 AM

I just know there's going to be a huge 24-style cliffhanger at the end of tonight's episode.

But if I had a pregnant wife who was due tonight, she would need to have a backup ride from 8-9 tonight.

Borst 12-08-04 08:56 AM

Happy Birthday Charlie!

Dominic Monaghan turns 28 today

Would have been cool if tonights episode was the one featuring Charlies flashbacks.

Looking forward to tonights episode but then none for 3 weeks is going to suck

Patman 12-08-04 09:08 AM

Hey, I get to watch "Lost" in HDTV because I usually watch "Smallville" in HDTV and watch my recording of "Lost" later (simply because I had a better shot of seeing "Lost" in HDTV on the possible Saturday reruns earlier this season. "Smallville" is a rerun tonight, so that frees up the 8 p.m. slot for me.

bummer :(

Shemp 12-08-04 12:01 PM

There's a 4-star review of tonight's episode over at USA Today.

"Tonight, things go from strange to stranger for TV's most fascinating castaways on a sterling, shock-filled Lost, the show's last original episode this year. (Catch up with reruns through December.)

As he has all season, producer J.J. Abrams carefully treads the line between fun and frustration tonight, parceling out just enough information to keep you satisfied while keeping you wanting more. So while a few questions are answered, many more are posed in this mid-season cliffhanger, all the better to ensure your return in January when Lost is paired with Abrams' equally entertaining Alias."

'Lost' keeps its bearings in mid-series cliffhanger

Sounds awesome

man, almost had me for a second, reviewer! i thought you meant til next season... but the year is up at the end of december! very tricky indeed!

adamblast 12-08-04 01:30 PM

OK. Speculation mode... I'm betting that
Spoiler:
Claire gets killed tonight, but the baby lives... This is based on the actress being initially listed as "guest star" when the series began (until they quickly changed it...) And all that psychic stuff about "don't let your baby be raised by others" and the "don't leave your baby" dialog in the dream last week...

EEz28 12-08-04 01:50 PM

my theory:
Spoiler:
i think shes going to die giving birth brough upon the stress of being kidnapped, show ends with sound of baby crying.

that sucks waiting till january, it seems like a long time away, but i know it will go by fast.

PHMustang2000 12-08-04 02:36 PM

I hope Not!

I hope they don't kill Emilie de Ravin off the show. She was pregnunt on Roswell and came back and was killed off. I wish they would keep her as a regular for awhile. Maybe the baby doesn't survive?!

aktick 12-08-04 04:12 PM

So Abrams produces both this and Alias? I've gotta admit, I've never watched Alias - is it as good as Lost? Maybe I'll have to get a season pass for it now that I finally have my Tivo.

rkndkn 12-08-04 04:21 PM

aktick, "Alias" is great, but you should catch up from the first season with the DVD sets. SO MUCH has happened over the seasons.

Spoiler:
I also think Claire is the character who gets killed off this season, though not necessarily tonight

Yep yep. It's almost been three different shows over the three different seasons that it's been on. Plus, if you're like me, you will be hopelessly lost for about three or four episodes before you finally get your bearings in the show.

My problem along those lines was solved last week when my dual tuner digital cable box from Comcast came in. Now I can watch one show in HD and record another on the DVR in HD. :D

movieking 12-08-04 07:50 PM

Holy Crap!

That Was A Close One!

Phuzbox 12-08-04 07:52 PM

-eek- (why do I get the feeling this will be my post every week)

mverleg1 12-08-04 07:55 PM

I was going to be impressed if ABC had managed to kill off Charlie AND keep it a secret. I would have had a whole new respect for ABC

movieking 12-08-04 07:57 PM

Ditto. The fact that they saved him was ridiculous. He was dead for too long! And besides, the way that Jack was beating on his chest he must have a bunch of broken ribs by now, making it very hard to breathe.

Feneant 12-08-04 07:58 PM

Jack kind of got on my nerves this episode... sheeze, he was being a real jackass with everyone. It's his fault that
Spoiler:
Charlie was hung by the guy, he warned him. I think it would have been better if he had died plot wise myself, oh well.... Still a very intense episode, the thing Boone and Locke find really gives you something to look forward to!

BTW...has there ever been a trapped on a deserted island show or movie where you rooted hard for them to never get rescued?

Well we don't really know how long he had been dead. It could have been an hour or a few minutes really. Not sure how this perticular episode was time wise. Either way I personally think, that was one of the best scenes on tv this year. I was about to lose it. :)

Anyone else reminded of The Abyss though?

LorenzoL 12-08-04 08:11 PM

Holy Moly!!!

Just when they were starting to wipe off the dirt away, it fades to black.

treszoks 12-08-04 08:12 PM

:jawdrop:

This show is freaking awesome. Just when you think it couldn't get any better, it does. What is the REAL secret on the island? Who is "they" and why would they want Claire, or more likely, Claire's baby?

Good thing Charlie didn't die for good on his birthday! That would have dampered the mood. So is this the "death" of a major character by the writers or whatever or will someone die for good next time?

It will have made sense if they did that. It will have been one of the best kept secret, especially nowadays.

In today's day and age, most DEFINITELY.

However, i'm glad he's still alive.

lwhy? 12-08-04 08:18 PM

Great ep tonight. This is one if not the best drama on tv right now. Was Jack beating on Charlie's chest with the one hand to shock his heart? It is going to be a long three weeks.

LorenzoL 12-08-04 08:21 PM

And what the heck was the thing that Locke and Boone were cleaning away??? Wreckage? An underground lair?

As soon as they starting tapping the steel, for some reason I kept thinking about an underground lair and the "Island of Dr. Moreau". Wouldn't surprise me if its a lab or medical center. The French woman being part of a scientific expedition, people getting sick and "they" wanting a healthy newborn it leads me to think that this is where the show is going.

On the other hand, I could be totally wrong but so far this looks like the likely scenario to me...

johnglass 12-08-04 08:23 PM

:grunt:

God I'm so fucking pissed he survived. This would have been the best episode of any show *ever* if they would have let Charlie stay dead.

Absolutely. That's the first thing I thought of.

Sure, it's a little cliche, but I would have missed his character. So I'll let it slide...this time.

Patman 12-08-04 08:47 PM

Well, at least we have some reason why Jack would not quit on Charlie due to the painful flashbacks of Jack having to tank his father's medical career because of his alcoholism issues. Add that to Jack having all sorts of regret and remorse from his father committing suicide due to the aftermath of losing his medical license, his "life" in a sense. So confronted with losing Charlie, Jack just keeps pounding on Charlie's chest in hopes of reviving his heart, and damn if it didn't work. Now, the writers could have easily just let Charlie die, and it would have been one of the greatest anti-marketing schemes at work since there have been many interviews and articles of the producers telling the viewers that Dominic Monaghan is far too popular to kill off, and yet if they wanted to, they could have easily done it and shocked the Lost faithful.

Notice how quickly Locke and Boone forget about finding Claire and Ethan once they uncover a new mystery with the steel enclosure in the ground?

I think Hurley could very well be well off (his comment to Walt, I think, is meant to be taken at face value, re: the $20,000 bet in a game of backgammon). Or maybe not.

So Boone runs a subsidiary of his mother's matrimony empire. Locke tells Boone that he works for a place that makes boxes.

Nice little "real" moment between Kate and Jack, even after Jack earlier just wanted people to have a fresh start, but 3 weeks on the island, and he finds that no one can escape their past entirely.

The Sawyer-Sayid exchange opened the door for a little less in terms of antagonism.

Absolutely. Exactly what I was thinking. All the while Jack was trying to save him, not just when he succeeded. He wouldn't give up, just like Ed Harris.

Yep! Too bad this shocking scene was reduced to a "He was dead but he got better" joke.

The finale of Season 1 of "24"...enough said.

Exactly- it would have had the hard hitting impact of the major character being killed off without anyone knowing it was going to happen (except I think Lost is a much better show therefore it would have been a better episode).

Instead they reduced it to a fucking soap opera cliche.

Still one of my favorite shows on TV, but this just knocked it down a notch for me.

aktick 12-08-04 09:39 PM

Wasn't Danielle holding Sayid in a room with a steel hatch something like the one Locke and Boone found?

gnradd21 12-08-04 09:41 PM

I'm glad Charlie lived, because he's one of my favorite characters. If he'd died, there'd be 14-year olds protesting outside ABC studios in the morning. And the 22-year old female writing this post would not be pleased either :D So let's just go with it folks. Jack was redeemed (if you call it that) by saving him and now maybe we won't see Zombie Dad anymore.

As far as the secret cave/tunnel/lair/tomb that Boone and Locke uncovered, as long as it doesn't resemble Al Capone's vault once they open it up I'll be happy. If this ends up being one of those cliffhangers that doesn't pan out, after it's built up so big, I'll be pissed. But I have to say that this was one of my favorite first seasons of any show I've ever seen. I can't wait for next year!!
