Tivo/cable TV question
I would love to get my mom a Tivo as she is always complaining about missing shows she likes and she hates commercials.
I'd love to get her set up with a DirecTivo, but she isn't too keen on having someone come over to re-wire her house to install satellite. She currently has regular cable TV (she used to have digital but git rid of it since the service was crappy and it cost a lot.)
Now, I used to have ReplayTV when I had digital so I knew that was a pain having the IR blaster hook up to the cable box (irregular channel changes etc.) Which is why I switched to DirecTV and DirecTivo.
But how does Tivo work with regular cable? Is it easier than with a box? I know this is probably a dumb question but I was just kind of curious as to how it hooks up, changes channels, etc.
I saw Costco had a good price on stand-alone Tivos so I wondered if this would be a good option for my mom if I can't talk her into getting DirecTV.

It works flawlessly with regular cable. There is no IR Blaster or cable box needed. Just run the coax cable straight into the back of the TiVo. Changing channels is basically instantaneous.
