Well the guy came this morning and brought a 6412. Still waiting for everything to dl.
However...I can't believe how much of a retard I am. Even knowing the guy was coming today to swap out the boxes, I still recorded two shows last night on the DVR. Those, along with a couple of other shows and a movie I wanted to see walked out the door with the tech.

Roto - this comes from MarkL over at the avsforum on how to program a 30 second skip into the 6412. Unfortunately I only have the 6208 in Dallas, but early 2005 I am told we'll get the 6412 since most of the outlying cities here already have it.
Here is the exact procedure to program a 30 second skip to the remote.
1) Press the "Cable" button at the top of the remote to put it into Cable Box control mode.
2) Press and hold the "Setup" button until the "Cable" button blinks twice.
3) Type in the code 994. The "Cable" button will blink twice
4) Press (do not hold) the "Setup" button
5) Type in the code 00173 (for 30 second Skip).
6) Press whatever button you want to map the skip function to.
You can map the 30 second function to anything. Most people are using the "Stop" button since it does the exact same thing as the "Live" button.
Hope this helps

thanks, but it didn't work I don't think I have that same remote. It has an On Demand button, but no Live button. I was able to go through the procedure, but the button doesn't do anything and I tried it twice. I'll go poke around at avs.
Edit: I found this
"this 30-second skip solution only works for the 6412 w/ Iguide software. Those of us with Passport software are out of luck. One of the first things I tried was programming the 0173 code on my remote - it doesn't work since the feature has been disabled in software."
I have the MSTV software. I'm sure Microsoft must have it disabled on the box too. Oh well.

Yeah, from what I've read on avs today it works in Joisey because you guys have iGuide. Those instructions will also work with any other UEI remote (Radio Shack or One for All)
