Let's ask some schmoe bartender who probably doesn't even work at the Bull & Finch anymore (notice it says "served" and not "still serves drinks after 30 years"). Sounds like she just ended up in the hospital, and they paid someone to concoct a suicide sensationalist story to sell papers. Sad. Lame.

"Cheers" Star Feeling "Fine"

Cheers alum Shelley Long is home and "fine" after what the tabloid press termed an overdose, but what her camp called a "bad reaction" to medication.
The 55-year-old former sitcom star "took an extra pill for a back injury which she sustained several years ago when she slipped on the set of Cheers," publicist Regina Miyamoto said.
The "extra pill" caused a "bad reaction," requiring hospitalization, Miyamoto said.
"She is now home and she's fine," the rep said.
A more dire version of Long's medical maladies was painted last week by London's Sun tabloid. The paper said the actress had been "rushed" to the hospital the week before Thanksgiving for "a suspected drug overdose."
The New York Post, picking up the thread, reported Long was admitted to Los Angeles' UCLA Medical Center on Nov. 16, and discharged last Tuesday.
Miyamoto declined to comment on the length of Long's stay. A spokesman for UCLA Medical Center said the hospital had no record of a Shelley Long having been treated there--which doesn't mean she wasn't there. Celebrities often sign themselves into hotels and hospitals under aliases.
Both the Sun and the Post claimed Long overdid it with painkillers because she was distressed over the end of her marriage to Bruce Tyson, president of a Los Angeles investment firm.
Long and Tyson wed in 1981. They reportedly split up last year.
Tyson spoke briefly with Saturday's Post, telling the tab that Long was "okay."
An Emmy winner for Cheers, Long was back in prime time on Friday, seen guesting on the ABC sitcom Complete Savages. The appearance was taped prior to her hospitalization.
Long starred as know-it-all waitress Diane Chambers on Cheers from 1982 to '87. She left the acclaimed sitcom in mid-run to pursue film roles. The films, Troop Beverly Hills among them, proved unmemorable.
In the 1990s, she found a niche as the big-screen Carol Brady in the Brady Bunch movies, a role she reprised most recently in the 2002 TV movie The Brady Bunch in the White House. Her last film appearance came four years ago in Robert Altman's Dr. T & the Women.

Actually, she was an original cast member. She was on for 5 years, then left to make movies. I think she came back toward the end for a guest spot or two.
