Episode Title: "Solitary"
Spoiler:
Sayid's life is placed in grave danger after he stumbles upon the source of the mysterious French transmission. Meanwhile, Hurley has a ridiculous plan to make life on the island a little more civilized — and it just might work.

First person to mention the Usual Subjects gets left alone with Sayid and a pound of bamboo.

Fixed!

LorenzoL 11-17-04 07:42 AM

Can't wait to watch it tonight.

Pointyskull 11-17-04 10:13 AM

It's been a long week waiting for this one, based on the previews...

Geofferson 11-17-04 11:56 AM

Looking forward to tonight!

Jray 11-17-04 12:29 PM

Groucho's wife has an interesting theory about the island. You should ask him/her about it.

;)

Big Boy Laroux 11-17-04 12:38 PM

i have a theory...

groucho IS his wife...

Groucho 11-17-04 12:39 PM

I'm also dead.

Raul3 11-17-04 01:03 PM

Let's start a poll.

How many pages in the thread before we actually talk about today's episode? ;)

joltaddict 11-17-04 01:14 PM

The overwhelming retardedness of the Lost threads have grown on me.

Just from seeing the previews last week (I'm not reading the spoilered description above) I'm a little worried about where they're taking the show. If there is another person/people on the island, that changes the dynamics of the show dramatically. I was pretty content just watching them learn how to survive and seeing each of the main characters' flashbacks for now.

AndyCapps 11-17-04 03:42 PM

Does this mean you'll be upset when the Harlem Globetrotters show up? :(

Mazje 11-17-04 04:06 PM

Dammit, you're a moderator! You know better than to say things like that without spoiler tags!

Also, put me in the camp of "excited but worried" about tonight's episode. I'm assuming that we're not going to learn a lot about the "history of the island" and that we're just going to get another layer of the mystery.

Big Boy Laroux 11-17-04 04:26 PM

yeah, i agree. for every question that tonight's episode answers, i'm sure we'll get 2 more questions with no answers...

mrpayroll 11-17-04 05:45 PM

I'm in! :)

Chris

aktick 11-17-04 07:00 PM

Mmmm, can't wait for the best hour of fall television...

GuessWho 11-17-04 07:16 PM

Wow... very interesting first 15 minutes

Maxflier 11-17-04 08:01 PM

Another great episode, this show just keeps getting better.
Although it was a bit of a letdown,i was fully expecting the Harlem Globetrotters to show up,but i guess that will be sometime later in the season?

Borst 11-17-04 08:02 PM

We have to wait 2 WEEKS til next episode! :(:(:(

PalmerJoss 11-17-04 08:07 PM

A great episode(of course) that left me with many more questions than before, like when we're gonna meet Alex. Also, what sort of contagion could there be on the island? And just what IS that creature that is on the island with the castaways? Man, I cannot wait to find out.

heimerSWT 11-17-04 08:24 PM

"What polar bear?"

"You didn't hear about the polar bear?"

Geofferson 11-17-04 08:55 PM

Solid episode tonight. Not enough of Kate though.

Ted The Bug 11-17-04 09:03 PM

I don't like how the flashbacks stopped explaining what these people were doing flying from Australia to Los Angeles.

MrX 11-17-04 09:38 PM

Good to see Mira Furlan(Delenn from B5) again

Some people are just on vacation...

cliffzig 11-17-04 10:06 PM

Just a nitpick, but the Iraqi people spoke way too much English. Shouldn't they have had all that subtitled?

They did at the start, then the camera panned and they switched to English- like they did in The Hunt for Red October (? or some other Russian sub movie). It's a shortcut so American audiences don't change the channel or tune out because the don't want to read.

Agreed it's great to see Mira Furlan again. I didn't recognize her at first with all that hair in her face, but soon I thought "Where do I know that voice from?" after that it came to me soon enough.

Charlie Goose 11-17-04 10:38 PM

Jeez, poor Jack can't even play a round of golf without Kate the nympho on his jock. I'm surprised she doesn't leave a little trail of moisture wherever she goes, like a snail.

Tommy Ceez 11-17-04 10:52 PM

Only this show could introduce a character that knows the whole history of the island and leave you with more questions than answers.

I cant believe that I'm watching this show real time...its so freaking good, I feel like I bought a DVD box set of a show that was on years ago...BBC possibly,

Have the networks actually given us a show this freaking good?!?

Yes, similar to what the previous poster said, I just assume its a way to avoid subtitles for those viewers that dont like them. I guess you just have to imagine they were speaking their native language.

superdeluxe 11-17-04 11:08 PM

We also got introduced to 2 new characters.

We have ethan..the guy with the rash or whatever..I recognize the actor!

Then we have locke's new buddy..the guy that can make traps or whatever.

The first guy got a good amount of screen time and speech time..the 2nd guy...we find out what he does.. (he is a pseudo-hunter)

And Danielle..damn..you could tell she wanted to knock boots with Sayid.

DocBrass 11-17-04 11:20 PM

Alias crossover?

so, is Danille Rosseau a SD-6 agent. from the previews, I was thinking JJ might have something up his sleeve.

This was my favorite episode so far, just edging out Locke's episode. The Iraqi people speaking English didn't bother me at all. I like The Hunt for Red October technique. It's good for extended scenes like that so you can actually watch the actors when they speak.

What I didn't get was why the French woman who has been there alone for 16 years, left the distress call only in French, yet could speak perfect English. My only guess is that they must've written the scene with her and Sayid later and decided it would be better if they could actually communicate. Then again this show is detailed enough maybe they'll come up with a reason for it later. She wished she could speak English so the dinosaur taught her.

Hubcap 11-18-04 05:16 AM

pretty good episode. what the hell was that cable running from the water? was the electricity or just like a rail cable. I guess that other plane that crashed in an earlier episode was what se was on.

She explained that her group was on a boat and it went off course during a storm.

Delenn isn't looking so great. 16 years of island life hasn't aged her well.

Palaver 11-18-04 07:30 AM

Was anybody else thinking about the episode of Gilligan's Island where the telephone line washed onshore or was it just me?

They have to save something for later episodes. Can't give us everything all at once.

LorenzoL 11-18-04 07:48 AM

Excellent episode. This show has yet to dissapoint me.

I wasn't interested in the character of Sayid and felt that Abrams and company added him for the sake of current news (being an Iraqui and Republican guard) but after we got a glimpse of his story this episode, I had to say that I was dead wrong.

They finally showed the French woman (Danielle) and as somebody indicated, they gave us more questions than answers: what's the black rock? who are "they"? who took "Alex"? why did Robert turned on her? What was the sickness he had? What are the "voices" in the jungle?
I especially like her telling Sayid that when he go back to his group, to "watch them closely". Thank you for the little foreshadowing Mr. Abrams.

Also in this episode, we get to see a little bit of things to come like Locke getting a "follower" or a "pseudo hunter" as he called himself, the tension between father and son and the road to redemption for Sawyer.

Plus excellent idea by Hurley with the golf.

Also I can't believe that nobody mentioned the shot of Shannon sunbathing with her bikini on. More of that please
