Laugh Tracks (that 70's show)
I'm a little sick tonight and had to stay home and well, I just noticed tonight how bad the laugh tracks on "that 70's show" actually are.
There was nothing funny about the show tonight but yet who ever kept hitting the "laugh" button over and over again - WTF??? Has it always been this way with that 70's show and I just never noticed because of being tired after a hard days work? seriously, It was terrible - I'm honestly speechless, Am I a drone who has just been awakened by the machine??

Yes, it's always been that way with "That 70's Show". Nearly every week the overuse of the laugh track utterly distracts me from watching the show.
I don't have this problem with any show except That 70's Show, which is odd... Carsey-Warner does a lot of comedies, past and present, that I have watched, and none are anything like That 70's. For example, Grounded For Life was just on tonight, and I don't even recall there being a laugh track. So obviously it's something particular to That 70's staff/crew.
I really just don't understand why they've continued to do it over it's, what, seven seasons? After just about every other line someone punches the overly loud laugh track that lasts longer than other shows, even if there isn't a joke. I tried to make a drinking game out of it a couple of years ago, but passed out before "We're all alright" even started playing.

Damn, I was hoping it was me just looking too much into it, but shit...................I guess not. I'm not saying I hate the show now or anything because I really do laugh my ass off sometimes when I watch it (I catch about 15 minutes of it here and there).
It's just really wierd seeing it when you're in a normal mood and don't have much to do..............I guess we all get sucked into the "HYPE".

I can only guess they were trying to do a throw back to real 70's shows which over used laugh tracks all the time. But as a running gag, it's run out of steam long ago. By the second episode on the season one DVD, I was checking the menu to see if there was a way to turn the laugh track off.

Imo, the first season and this season are the worst offenders in this regard. The other seasons were a lot funnier, though, so maybe it was less distracting because I was actually laughing during the laugh track parts.
This season they pretty much have become caricatures of themselves, so the performances seem to be 'phoned in' time and time again.
