Maybe Bree was sexually abused as a child? Something is not right about her...

Rex was having an affair with Zach's mom before she killed herself.
She got pregnant,
Paul killed the baby,
Zach blames himself because he could have stopped it but didn't,
Rex blames himself for the suicide
And Paul is gay.

ALL WHO MISSED THIS EPISODE ...

Sounds like I missed the good scenes (especially with Eva and Marcia)!!!!. For some reason, Tivo didn't record it last night, and we only caught the last 20 minutes.
I checked for re-runs this Saturday, and it will not be aired due to Harry Potter being aired.... any chance for a rerun elsewhere?

One thing else - did Bree ever get anything from Mary Alice's session tape she took from the therapist's office? I thought we saw her listening to it, but whatever was on it never came up again...

I thought the secret was that he was gay too but we'll see.
Boy is this cast excellent. The writing too.
I am glad to hear it. For some reason I thought because it was so good that the average person wouldnt be watching it. Glad to hear quality is prevailing this season

DH's viewership has gone up each successive week. Pretty impressive considering how high it started.

HBO gave it an opening for sure, with no fall programming to draw viewers away. DH has the Sex in the City crowd as well.

You are completely discounting The Wire, one of the best shows on HBO and tv in general.

No matter how great The Wire is (personally too heavy for my taste), it has a small niche following. Nowhere near S&TC nor Sopranos; not even Deadwood.

How high can Housewives fly? Sunday's episode of ABC's hot Desperate Housewives drew a record 24.9 million viewers, according to preliminary Nielsens. And nearly 15 million of them were young adults, making the soapy suburban saga last week's top show among that crucial audience.
Typically, sitcoms and dramas decline in early weeks as dabblers move on to other shows. But Sunday marked Housewives' fourth consecutive weekly gain in six airings.
When added to the nearly 7 million who watch the same episode repeated on Saturdays, it's clear that Housewives eclipses even CSI as the week's most-watched series. ABC estimates that 30% of the 130 million adults ages 18 to 49 have tuned in at least once.
Apart from unscripted phenomena such as Survivor, American Idol and The Apprentice, networks haven't witnessed such a mushrooming hit since ER and Friends became near-instant successes in 1994.
CSI started more slowly on Fridays and didn't take off until CBS moved it to Thursdays (behind Survivor) in its second season. Fox's buzzworthy Ally McBeal and The O.C. weren't nearly as popular.
"I don't think anybody could have predicted the show could get off to this kind of start," says ABC entertainment chief Steve McPherson.
Why the steady growth? "It's becoming a real water-cooler show," says Steve Sternberg of ad buyer Magna Global USA, noting the Housewives habit fills a Sunday void left by HBO's conversation-sparking Sex and the City and The Sopranos.
Housewives is "the show most people are talking about now," he says, and as word spreads, the audience expands.
Housewives also got a lift from potent lead-in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which hit record highs with an expanded episode that peaked at 22.9 million in its last half-hour.
Fans must wait two weeks to get another fix. Housewives is pre-empted Sunday by the American Music Awards.
But viewers' embrace of the drama, along with potent newcomer Lost, is sparking networks to chase a "broader palette" for next year's crop, McPherson says. Translation: Fewer cop and lawyer shows.

I like that last sentence - too bad they didn't include medical/hospital shows.

It never crossed my mind that Rex might be gay until I read it here. That seems too easy. Plus, can they really put 2 marriages on the rocks, or completely broken up, in the first season? Think about it... we know that Rex and Bree are having problems. And we can see that Carlos's mom is hot on Gabrielle's trail. It's probably only a matter of time until she's busted. They wouldn't do that would they? I mean, the name of the show is "Desperate Housewives" afterall, right? And Susan is already divorced... That would leave us with a Desperate HouseWIFE.
Anyway, just some things I was thinking of and food for thought.

One thing I'm really liking is that they're actually moving the plotlines along at a respectable pace. Maybe I've just watched too much Smallville, but I was expecting them to drag out the "when will Gabrielle get caught" angle for a couple of seasons, but Carlos's mother has pretty much figured out what's going on. I was also expecting the blackmailing plot to go on for at least a few episodes and get tiresome before finally being resolved, but instead it was neatly taken care of in a couple of episodes.
I'm just hoping that they can keep up the pace with the writing and not run out of ideas.

I think that Rex being gay won't happen, because it is much too predictable. At least I hope not.
