The subtle humor on this show is great. I loved the scene when they get back to the house and George Michael is staring at Lindsay's nose and she notices and covers it up with her hand as she walks away:lol:

What a great show. As good as when it left last year. The Tobias "accidental" air horn discharge was the best. |
Ha, he sat 7 minutes thinking about it...
Moore impersionator was dead on. funny subtle political jokes laid in there. awsome. |
I'm so glad this is back on TV
|
Funny, funny, funny.
But's what's up with Portia/Lindsay? Her teeth are really white, and she's got an overbite, like she got caps. And with her thick eyebrows, she looks like a neandrethal. |
Tivo'd it watchin it when i get home tonight

"I just blue myself" rotfl
Man, I love this show. |

Anyone get the vibe that Buster was really the son of Lucille and Oscar?
|
it was more than a vibe.... they were palying the soap opera music and the whole thing about Buster with Oscar's hair... there will be more on that topic this season..
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn;'t it look like Portia/Lindsay really had a nose job... making the nose joke even more funny Originally posted by Patman Anyone get the vibe that Buster was really the son of Lucille and Oscar? |

Originally posted by Patman Anyone get the vibe that Buster was really the son of Lucille and Oscar? As for this episode, easily the worst of the series. It almost was like talented amateurs who had never seen the show were told what it was like, and they put together an episode based on that. That said, there was still a lot of funny stuff. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't "The Final Countdown" play in the background of Gob's corporate office/one hundred dollars scene?

I'd never really watched the show before (even though I'm a huge David Cross fan). I watched last night's and it was hilarious. I'm definately picking up the first season. The humor was so absurd! I love it!

Originally posted by Brain Stew He's the perfect foil for Buster since he essentially is a big child. The scenes in the season finale where the two where having a competition to see who could get a girlfriend first were hilarious! Ok, the kid can stay. I guess the uncle sam bit just rubbed me the wrong way or something. |
I enjoyed it a lot. There were quite a few funny lines. I liked the doctor
"It looks like he's dead." "Now let's be clear, is he dead or does he just look like he's dead" "It looks like he's dead; he's got blue paint all over him." rotfl |

I wasn't impressed considering it was the season premiere. I kept dozing off, but according to this thread I didn't miss the best parts.

Regarding the ratings, TVTome rates them differently:
Watch anything good on TV last night? Rate last night's new episodes. Highest rated new episodes for 11/8/2004. American Dreams What Dreams May Come Rating: 8.07 Arrested Development The One Where Michael Leaves (2) Rating: 8.05 Desperate Housewives Running to Stand Still Rating: 7.91 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Vardon Family (2) Rating: 7.33 The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XV Rating: 7.27 As for those of you putting this episode down, shame on all of you. If you put this episode down, I NEVER want to read another post defending Simpsons saying any Simpsons is still better than most sitcoms on the air. AD, even at it's weakest (and I personally don't think this episode was at it's weakest), is a thousand times better than every damn thing on the air, and ten thousand times better than any given recent episode of the Simpsons. Also from TVTome: David Cross had this to say about his character being in The Blue Man Group "Yes, and I hate it. (Sound of phone dropping.) In fact, this phone just slipped because of the grease they put on to get that (expletive) off. It's the worst thing I've ever done, I can't wait for it to be over. An hour in makeup, then two hours getting out. . . . It sucks. Only someone who is truly desperate to be on TV would do Star Trek or whatever those UPN shows are". |

I just watched the entire first season last week on DVD and when I watched last night episode it felt like it picked up right where it left off and it was just as funny to me as any episode from season 1. I don't get this "mediocre" stuff everyone's talking about either. The only thing I can think of is that in anticipating the new season over the summer everyone convinced themselves that every new episode will be better than The Godfather and Airplane! combined.
|
I thought last night's episode was funnier than The Godfather and Airplane! combined. Not the funniest of the series, but still very good.

Originally posted by Groucho Guess what? It's possible to love a show, but be disappointed in a particular episode. This forum is here for the discussion of shows, not a circle jerk in praise of each and every episode. If you can't handle the notion that other people have different opinions than you, perhaps you should go post someplace else. |
Oooh Snap!

Originally posted by Rico Diablo Wow, easy, Groucho. I apologize if I touched a nerve. I didn't realize the word "naysayers" was so inflammatory and worthy of being told to leave the forum. You just happened to be the most recent one to post. :) Also, I thought the implication that somebody who didn't like one episode of a show should stop watching entirely a bit radaculoulicious. |
Originally posted by Groucho My response was directed not at you, but at everybody who is getting upset because a few of us dared to have our own opinion and didn't like this particular episode. You just happened to be the most recent one to post. :) Also, I thought the implication that somebody who didn't like one episode of a show should stop watching entirely a bit radaculoulicious. Of course I don't expect everyone to like every episode, but it seemed like people were piling on a bit. All opinions are accepted. (Also, I need to CMA in case I hate next weeks episode.) |
I also don't expect every episode to be praised the same as each other. That would be bland, boring conversation that would never get to page two of a thread.
However, I don't understand why some people (and I don't know if it's the same people) can post on another thread of a longer standing show that is tired and showing signs of age and clearly past it's glory days and still posting responses in those threads that say, "This show is still better than blah blah blah such a show or shows" then turn around and post in an Arrested Development thread that they didn't like the episode and thought such and such, without the saving, "Well it's still better than" line. And all I am saying, like the episode or not, it's still better than most of TV today. Hell, AD at it's weakest is better than 99% of TV today. |
This was a great episode in my opinion, one of my favorites. So many great lines in the episode. I sure missed this show. I just wish that I could count on it to air when it is scheduled instead of having to pad my PVR, causing conflicts with other shows.
