Nice nod to us longtime fans with the Henry Winkler scene in the "next time" segment. "Hey Dr. Hate"

j123vt_99 11-07-04 08:20 PM

also, in that scene, the hand slap and the "no touching"

Watched it tonight. Probably the 2nd or 3rd time I've seen an episode of this show. I still don't get what all the fuss is about, sorry. :(

if you don't get it, you don't get it... no biggie.. we don't think any less of you

i'm sure its been said before but i see a lot of similar humor in Arrested Development as found in The Royal Tennenbaums. subtle moves by characters in the background...absurd, dry, dark humor. when people ask me what the show is like i ask them if they liked Tennenbaums. even if they say no i recommend it but i think they have a better chance of appreciating the show if they like that sort of humor.

the thing that blows me away about this show is the things they can get away with saying...two lines come to mind:

"i just blue myself" - Tobias from tonight's episode and "talk you off? talk you off what Pop-Pop?" - George Michael from last season.

i still don't know how those slid through the censors.

Did they completely drop the whole George Michael has a crush on Maebe subplot after the first 13 episodes or is it just me?

Well they ended the season off with a recycle of that subplot. It's only a certain amount of distance you can go with that joke.

Sorry about the date mix up...

What a nice surprise for Daily Show watchers to get a little Ed Helms on a Sunday.

He had a moment of hope tonight when he was told Lindsay didn't share the family nose, thinking it might mean she wasn't really related (and thus Maeby too).

the only hint i saw was while Michael and George Michael were in the car Michael said something about Lindsey's nose and GM immediately says something to the effect of "we're not related?!?" Michael replies, "no its just not her real nose."

i assume GM said that because he thought if Lindsey isn't his aunt then Maeby wouldn't be his cousin.

i think it will be a reoccuring thing throughout the season but i don't think it will be focused on quite so much.

Is the last episode of the previous season, George Michael met a girl and started paying attention to her and none to Maeby. This led to Maeby becoming to jealous and wanting to get the attention of George Michael. The dynamic between the two was effectively switched.

The funniest part IMO was the replay of that line, right after someone asks "What was the last thing he said?" The first time I giggled, but after that reiteration I was laughing my ass off. :)

Ted The Bug 11-07-04 10:31 PM

It seemed like they made a reference to it all the time throughout the initial 13 episodes, then didn't bring it up again in the rest of the 1st season. Well, other then Maebe kissing Annyong for the same reason she kissed GM in the pilot.

Although it did seem like Lindsay was getting jealous of GM during the last 2 episodes of the season. Maybe this season she will have a crush on him?

I did catch the line about not being related to Lindsay tonight though.

Speaking of Annyong, now that he speaks English why doesn't he correct people on his name?

Ted The Bug 11-07-04 10:32 PM

D'oh! That's what I get for typing a responce and forgetting to hit enter.

tycho55 11-07-04 11:07 PM

I missed the entire first season... :( Would it still make sense if I picked up at season two?

MrX 11-07-04 11:08 PM

The subtle humor on this show is great. I loved the scene when they get back to the house and George Michael is staring at Lindsay's nose and she notices and covers it up with her hand as she walks away:lol:

Deftones 11-07-04 11:09 PM

What a great show. As good as when it left last year.

The Tobias "accidental" air horn discharge was the best.

Jackskeleton 11-07-04 11:52 PM

Ha, he sat 7 minutes thinking about it...

Moore impersionator was dead on.

funny subtle political jokes laid in there. awsome.

I'm so glad this is back on TV

Count Dooku 11-08-04 01:48 AM

Funny, funny, funny.

But's what's up with Portia/Lindsay?

Her teeth are really white, and she's got an overbite, like she got caps. And with her thick eyebrows, she looks like a neandrethal.

Hubcap 11-08-04 05:40 AM

Tivo'd it watchin it when i get home tonight

Chew 11-08-04 06:07 AM

"I just blue myself" rotfl

Man, I love this show.

'like anyone would want to "R" her!'

Patman 11-08-04 06:42 AM

Anyone get the vibe that Buster was really the son of Lucille and Oscar?

j123vt_99 11-08-04 07:24 AM

it was more than a vibe.... they were palying the soap opera music and the whole thing about Buster with Oscar's hair... there will be more on that topic this season..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn;'t it look like Portia/Lindsay really had a nose job... making the nose joke even more funny
