I like this show a little more w/ each passing week (so does my wife). I actually think it's well put together - enough so that I can ignore Kelly Osbourne's on-and-off-again accent. And it has it's moments where it is funny as hell.

damn, I was looking forward to this. Only to tune in to see that our Dallas ABC affiliate chose to pre-empt for a rerun of Wheel of Fortune, followed by some local program. With a crawl underneath that said 'life as we know it will not be televised tonight...'
Was there something in this episode so horrendous, so offensive, that WFAA TV felt obligated to protect us & our children from something the rest of the country was watching?
Am I going to tune in to Desperate Housewives on Sunday to find more Pat, Vanna & 8 Country reporter?
God, I hate living in the bible belt.......

well, fortunately I discovered practically every network show is available on the net shortly after its airing, so I guess I won't worry too much about missing episodes of stuff anymore, heh.

I'm not surprised; I knew this program would be the most controversial network show in some time. The bible-thumpers want to make sure you can't make your own decisions. Wasn't ABC-Dallas one of the affiliates that did not carry NYPD Blue in S1?
Now what concerns me is that this show is already on shaky ground, ratings-wise. Losing a big market like Dallas won't help.

yes, I believe it was also WFAA that initially tried to protect us from the bare butts on NYPD Blue in the 1st season.
I will definitely complain, but as long as ABC lets their affiliates impose their own moral guidelines I expect this will continue (i.e. NYPD Blue was 10+ years ago wasn't it?)
I always wonder how this impacts the sponsors. They are also losing a major market which they paid for. WFAA doesn't break away for the national commercials. And even if they do, nobody's watching.
Jereden, if it's not breaking any forum rules....where would I find this on the net?

Thanks Jereden!
btw, found this for anybody curious as to why it was pre-empted:
To our viewers who have written us about our decision not to air an episode of ABC's drama, "Life As We Know It" on Thursday night, October 28, at 8 p.m:
It is extremely rare that we pre-empt network programs due to inappropriate content, however after much discussion and careful consideration we believed it was necessary.
The program targets and is primarily marketed to one demographic: teens. The storyline contained explicit materical about a teenage boy (a minor) having sex with one of his teachers. It was a provocative subject, and featured portrayals that went way over the top. The storyline and visual images were well beyond community standards particularly as it relates to teens.
We have been discussing the content of " Life As We Know It" with ABC since its premiere, and this particular episode was one that crossed the line of appropriateness.
Being in television news, we believe that the right to free speech is of paramount importance. But, as a licensee of the FCC, we are obligated to monitor content for appropriateness, violence, sexual content and indecency.
We will continue to monitor the program and make decisions on a case-by-case basis.

If ABC's marketing executives are smart enough, they should use this opportunity to promote the show before it's too late. The show itself is not bad, but it never has any chance to survive in the current time slot. If the FCC so far has no problem with this show, how can any local TV stations have the rights to preempt the program?

Because the FCC is so arbitrary in their findings - they have networks and affiliates running scared.

I also have liked Life As We Know It more and more each week, I hope I don't get to loving it and then it gets canceled.
I still can't forgive ABC for never getting the great
"Once & Again" in a good time slot and marketing it properly.

I don't think it's a bad show, but there is something about the "look" or feel of this show that seems odd to me. It almost has a cheap, after-school special look to it. Not a prime-time network show. Does anyone know what I mean? It is hard to describe.
Did anyone else watch the ABC show a few seasons ago that was a one-hour drama version of "Do Over"? I think it was called "That Was Then". That show had a similar look and I think it only lasted 2 episodes.

ABC's 'life' Not Dead Yet
(Friday, November 19 08:47 AM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Someone at ABC must really like "life as we know it."
The network has ordered four additional scripts for the struggling first-year drama, the Hollywood trade papers report. ABC has also struck a deal to air repeats of the show on MTV in three-hour blocks Dec. 4 and 11.
While the extra scripts won't necessarily lead to extra episodes beyond "life's" initial 13, the order can be seen as a small vote of confidence for the show, which enjoyed generally positive reviews but is stuck in the brutal 9 p.m. ET Thursday timeslot.
Through five airings, "life as we know it" is averaging only about 4 million viewers per week, making it ABC's least-watched show of the season. It airs opposite "CSI," the top-rated show on television, and "The Apprentice," which is in the Nielsen top 15.
The show revolves around three high-school friends (Sean Faris, Chris Lowell and Jon Foster) dealing with the trials of growing up, sex chief among them. Ex-"Freaks and Geeks" writers Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah created the series.
