Enterprise 10/29/04

After a dangerous group of genetically engineered humans called "Augments" escapes from their secluded planet intent on causing all-out war between Earth and the Klingons, the Enterprise crew is called into action and Archer enlists the help of criminal genius Dr. Arik Soong, the scientist responsible for creating the Augments.

While searching for the Augments in the Borderland — the volatile region between the Klingon Empire and the Orion Syndicate — Enterprise crosses paths with a band of ruthless Orion slave traders, who kidnap T'Pol and eight other crew members off the ship so they can be sold at auction, forcing Archer to enact a risky rescue mission with Dr. Soong's help.
As an added bonus, there is some footage on http://www.iesb.net

I just recently watched the TOS episode "Space Seed" for the very first time. The episode of course is the introduction of the Kahn character, but what i didn't know is that Kahn is genetically engineered AND that he lived on Earth during the 1990s (according to the episode, the time of the Eugenics War). From what I gathered in the episode he was bred to be a superior human and his kind were taking control of various lands on Earth (i.e. McCoy refers to it as the last world war).

In the current Enterprise show Earth is already supposed to be free of war, disease, etc. It would not make sense then that the "Kahn" genetically engineered humans are taking charge on an Earth free of war. I'm not sure what time the current Enterprise show is supposed to be taking place, but I know it is not the 1990s. Is this upcoming storyline supposed to be the Eugenics War and the rise of Kahn as told in the TOS episode "Space Seed" (should be taking place in the 1990s) or is it totally different?

What I heard this is supposed to be about an attempt to recreate the genetic supermen from the Eugenics Wars.

In the original TOS storyline the Eugenics Wars were supposed to be around 1996 and WW3 in the mid 21st century. Since the genome has only recently been mapped the Enterprise creators are moving the Eugenics Wars to the early 21st century and WW3 a little later, but before the 2063 first warp flight. I don't think it's too big a deal.

Today's episode is similar to Space Seed where some of the genetic supermen are brought back to life and they cause trouble.

I don't like that idea. Just treat Trek like an alternate universe. Keep in consistent.

According to some on the trekbbs that has seen the episode, they don't actually refer to when the Eugenics War took place, which is good.

The only time reference is supposedly that 20 years ago or so, Soong went to a secret Starfleet facility and stole embryos that had been kept from the Eugenics War and he uses them to breed a new race of genetic people. He isn't doing it to be bad, but they get out of his control and they end up trying to cause problems for Earth, not explicitly take over it.

That would be fine and it actually sounds like a good plotline.

This would make sense, and leave the "Space Seed" timeline intact. BTW I clicked on the link above to preview a scene from the episode, and it looks very very cool.

Okay, now that was a good episode. If they keep this up, the show could actually be good. I may actually watch regularly.

It took them over 3 seasons to create a very good Trek episode. Hopefully, they keep it up.

And Klingons...oh my!

Seriously, this was a great episode. I think doing this mini-arcs was probably the smartest idea. I can't wait to see what comes out of this one, the Vulcan arc, and the Andorian arc.

I bet the Klingon war will do wonders for their weapons systems.

Yep, N'Pol's buyer was a Tellarite.

Loved the last two shows, both themes were taken from past shows, but that is ok.

Best comment in the show = Soon, "This crew could use a little more sense of humor".

Looking forward to next week.

Haven't been a regular watcher since the 1st season, but checked this one out and was very pleasantly suprised. I liked it. A lot. Can this show actually become entertaining?

I hope so.

Will be watching next week.

Wow. That was actually pretty good. What is this forum going to do without Enterprise bashing, though?

No kidding. As you can see this thread is quite short w/o all the bashing.

I liked it. Brent Spiner is good in anything he does.
