No, I do not. I stand by the fact that they are a fake news and they shouldn't be considered or judged in the same degree. I just wanted to point out that they are press pass worthy.

I love Stewart and the Daily Show but I gotta say I'm sick of him using the "we're a comedy show" excuse. If you watch his show on any given night - and definitely on a night when he has a political guest - it's clear that he's doing something more than comedy. It's entertainment pushing the boundaries into actual commentary. It is not that different from Crossfire or O'Reilly, which are shows that started in news and pushed into entertainment. He's making the opposite journey but they're meeting in the middle. If he thinks that Crossfire needs to be a serious news show he's deluded. It's wrestling and that's all it wants to be. If it turned serious it would lose its audience. The people who want in depth thought already watch Meet the Press etc... Is Stewart going to lecture John Mclaughlin because his show is too wacky? It's a stupid thing for Stewart to go on about. If his show is nothing more than comedy and he's nothing more than a comedian then he should have no say in how news shows run their business.

Still love ya, John. But quit deflecting responsiblity with that silly line of thinking.

So only people actually involved in the news shows should have a say in how they present the news to the public?

Absolutely not. BUT when someone deflects every single criticism of himself with "what do I know? I'm just a comedian!" then they should be careful how humorlessly they criticize others. Bill Maher and Dennis Miller would probably not take quite the passive-aggressive approach to describing their own work before speaking out on their own views.

I thought his point was that he runs a COMEDY show, so he delivers comedy. These people run a NEWS show, maybe they should deliver news?

Stewart gets a little self righteous at times, but that doesn't make his point less valid.

Apparently they don't run a news show. They run a show where politically opinionated people take jabs at each other's views. And that's what the show delivers. You know? When Dan Rather screws up that's a blot on journalism. When your "cast" includes Carville, Carlson etc... you are not a news show and only morons think you are.

no they say they run a Debate show, but they don't have any honest debate. There's no discussion, it's one person yelling his party's talking points, and the other guy yelling his party's. It happened to Stewart on the show, he claimed that shows like Crossfire were 'hurting' America, where was the debate? Carlson just started harping on how Stewart wasn't a legitimate news guy, how dare he question us.

I'm not saying Stewart is 100% right, or not without fault. But he has a point.

I definitely agree with your last part.

Hell, the presidential "debates" don't have any actual debating in them either.

He definitely has a point. It was refreshing to see someone get on that show and actually say it.

Thanks for the link--just watched it. Well, I have to say, Stewart had some valid points. I don't know why he felt the need to go on there and correct them like that, but I can't say he was wrong. Very interesting.

Just watched the video clip. Jon Stewart is an ass. Keep your mouth shut Jon when it comes to real issues and just keep telling jokes to the college-kid crowd.

Republican? Hardly, I loathe most of them. I just feel if Stewart had a point to make he didn't have to mouth off like a crybaby bitch to get it across. On the following Daily Show he went on about how "he called him a dick on National television!"

Ooh Jon, you rebel.

On that Daily Show he also mentioned how his self esteem was dashed by his appearance on Crossfire. Him mentioning calling someone a dick wasn't boasting, it was self-depricating humor.

If you re-watch or re-read the Crossfire segment, any time Jon took a jab at someone, it was right after they took a jab at him. He called Carlson a dick right after Carlson said Jon wasn't funny. It seemed like an almost reflex action caused by years of Jon having to deal with hecklers in stand-up. That's what Carlson was in that Crossfire debate; he wasn't debating any points, he was just being a heckler.

If his point was that there is no honest debate on Crossfire, what forum would have been more appropriate?

Carlson was being a dick. Jon was being one too, but he was a lot more funny Jon kept trying to bring a point out, and the other two guys just didn't get it, and kept trying to change the subject.

Wasn't it also after Tucker called him John Kerry's "butt-boy"? In my book, that's a lot worse than calling somebody a dick.

Yeah, I'm surprised more isn't being made of that. Is "butt-boy" some sort of harmless non-homophobic knickname that I'm not aware of? Because to me it sounds like Carlson straight-up called Stewart a ***.

"Ass-kisser" comes to mind.

Not at all saying it was his intention in calling Stewart that, however.

According to that fine resource http://www.urbandictionary.com :

1. buttboy
1. Catamite, an adolescent homosexual "mistress."
2. A sycophant, yes man, or brown nose.

2. buttboy
The action in which a male receives anal sex, usually submissively.
Whatever. Dick.

I agree. In addition to being a hypocrite, he also seemed like an ass without having the hilarity to back it up. Although I've never watched Crossfire, so maybe all of his comments were justified. The Crossfire guys came off pretty bad too.

What's funny and what isn't is opinion. I laughed my ass off reading this.

I'm so glad that this is on the net. I'm not at all into politics but my wife is and in a big big way. We are both able to sit down and watch The Daily Show every night and she can even chuckle a bit when a crack is made about the guy she is going to vote for. We both have been dying to see this clip since it was mentioned on The Daily Show. It's great to see a "fake newscaster" call out a few guys who are even more fake than he is.

Bravo.
