two things: the heat issue, I haven't had a problem, but they need to design them with the fans coming out the sides of the box. I'd say a majority of the population stack their equipment, VCR, DVD player, whatever. I'd think it would be an easy solution, but one that hasn't been thought of yet.

Single tuner thing: just add a $2 splitter from Radio Shack behind the tv. That way you can at least record one thing and watch another though another input on the tv.

Just be careful to watch your playlist if you choose that, because MTV2 usually will end up showing one episode about five time a week (sometimes back to back even) and it can jam up your space pretty quick if not monitored.

We just got our 4th DirecTivo yesterday, because you never know when 8 things you want to see are on at the same time.

Oh yeah - there's only two of us in the house.

I'm thinking of getting a dvr - can you still have it not record commercials or are those days long over?

those days were never around, at least to my knowledge. Unless Replay had something in the early days.

Tivo has FF feature where you can skip through commercials in about 5 seconds.

Replay used to have a 30 second skip feature, not sure if they still do, since I don't own one.

Certain Replay models have CA - Commericial Advance where it skips commercials without the need to press any buttons. All Replays have 30-sec Quick-Skip (which also allows you to skip forward any number of minutes by pressing the number then QS).

The DVR in the Comcast digital cable box that I have has several speeds of FF so that you can zip through commercials in seconds.

I also have mine hooked to a splitter. One cable goes to my VCR which I can use as a seperate tuner to watch one program and record another.

We have one in the bedroom, one in the living room, and two in the HT room (where the big screen is).

May I add that Comcast just dropped off their HD DVR about an hour ago. The only channels I get through them is my locals in HD.

Now I can time-shift HD shows too, although only about 8 hours . Better than nothing though, as I barely watched HD before simply because I hate having to be there when it's on AND watch commercials. I also can't stand the interface, but it's my only option for the time being...

Now we can record 9 things at the same time .They're like potato chips - you can't have just one .

Call them. Their website sucks. I've had HD for 8 months and their website says it's still not available here.

I currently have two DVR's.
My Dish Network DVR is not HD and only has one tuner. I will probably get rid of it next week.
I just picked up my SA 8000 from Time Warner a few days ago. It has two tuners and records in HD. (Except for some reason it will not record TNT HD or Disc. HD).

I currently record Gilmore Girls, Desperate Hosewives, Raymond and Survivor. When HBO has Sopranos or Six Feet Under running I record those as well.
