Drew Carrey's Green Screen - 10/7
Did anyone else catch the premiere? This show was a riot! The animation for the first skit was kind of crappy, so I was kind of disappointed, but I guess it was just to get people used to the gimmick. The rest of the animation was great. I loved how they animated little hats and clothes for the actors. It reminded me a lot of the old Bugs Bunny cartoons where the animator keeps fooling around with the character by throwing in new things, erasing others, etc.
I'll definitely keep watching this.

I only made it through the first minute or so of the first sketch, myself. My and my gf are both huge Whose Line fans, but we were both put off by the animation, which seemed more distracting than anything else.
It basically seemed like Whose Line for people with no imagination.

I was a big fan of both continent productions of "Whose Line is it Anyway?".
The US version of WLiiA was at it's worse when Drew was allowed to face the audience. Green Screen had way to much Drew. He simply doesn't have the gift.
The humor and cast (colin being the exception) was no where near the quality of WLiiA ... either continent.
One thing that bothered me was a scene where one of the performers said "It's in the cupboard". Drew was already facing the wall as if he was waiting for a cue to open the cupboard.
Take away the animation. Do you think the humor of the skits could stand on it's own. That is what the audience saw. They certainly weren't rolling in the aisles.
The whole show feels forced. Humor weak. Performances lack luster. The animation was clearly the star.
There wasn't a single funny moment in the German / Zepplin scene.

Huge "Who's Line" fan here, and this was unfucking bearable. I agree completely that this is "Who's Line" for people with no imagination, and the laugh track was horrible. But of course, they would have to use a laugh track when the live studio audience can't see what we see.
And what's the deal with Colin's hair? When did it go gray?

I loved Whose Line (American) and since its the same principals I was looking foward to this...I tuned in late (during the boxing skit) and I didn't laugh. Hell, I didn't smile.
I'm hoping the rest wasn't like that.

And I think Colin's hair has been going grey for a while now. It's just that they haven't shot a new episode of Whose Line in a while, so the transition seems more drastic. I saw him on one of VH1's specials a while back (one of the "I love the..." things), and his hair was grey then.
Another thing that really bothered me about what I saw is that the animation didn't really add anything to the show. All they did (in the minute that I watched before I changed the channel) was just draw out what the people were acting. It's not like it made it any funnier or anything. Either way, it really makes me pine for new Whose Line episodes. Heck, I'd just love to see Colin get his own show. I always thought he was the funniest person on Whose Line, although who knows how funny he'd be in a non-improv situation.
Was Ryan Stiles in the Green Screen show? Being a regular on the British Whose Line, and in every episode of the American one, I really expected to see him on Green Screen, but I didn't notice him in the performer pool. Maybe he knew what a turd this would be ahead of time?

Another WLiiA fan, both Brit and US versions, and this was just horrible. The animation looked nice, but it was just so over-the-top, trying to forcibly add humor into some really unfunny junk that it detracted from the show.
What a shame, they basically manage to revive Who's Line with the exact same cast minus Wayne Brady, and this is the result. Just go back to the formula of Who's Line... If it ain't broke, don't fix it. This nightmare is a good enough example of that age old rule.

I believed, and may be one of the few, that this show has the potential to becoming something great. From a technical standpoint, the show is very interesting in the way a show could mix live action and animation using a television budget (according to reports; CGI, hand-drawn, and Flash animation are all used). From an entertainment standpoint, the show does have a way to go. It's not as funny as Whose Line... (either the UK or the US version) and it's sorely missing some of the contestants that brought a lot of energy to both versions (in particular: Ryan Stiles and Wayne Brady).
I'm hoping that this show does get better as the weeks go by, and hopefully Drew Carey won't fail me.

I enjoyed it and will definitely keep watching. I love improv, and there was some decent stuff this episode.
But honestly, I think it'd just prefer regular ol' Whose Line is it Anyway. While pretty cool, the animation doesn't really add a whole lot.
I wish they would:
1. Bring back Whose Line
2. Give it a good time-slot (and keep it there)
3. Chain Drew Carey behind his desk so he can't participate in the improv

Big Whose Line fan here, hated Green Screen.
And I agree that Carey is only good when he's trying not kill one of the improver's for ripping on him. He looks like he's constipated.

Question from: Cheryl from California
Question: Hi Colin! I can't wait to see the new Green Screen show this fall. I just heard that Ryan had said he wouldn't be doing any episodes of Green Screen. Why??
Hi Cheryl
From talking with Ryan he has mentioned that he has felt a little burnt out with improv. That and the fact he is in the middle of opening his club in Bellingham has kept him away from Green Screen. But you never know some time in the future he may come on the show

I thought it was very funy at parts, not so in other parts. When I did laugh I laughed a lot, I will watch it again. I loved what they did with the green screen effects. Even the simple line drawings they used at first worked pretty well.

Well I've been watching this show every week and I have to say I am unimpressed. I *loved* the original british Whose Line, I used to watch it every day after school on comedy central. And the Drew Carey version was really good too, even though Drew was a terrible, terrible host.
So I've been watching Green Screen and I thought it started off well enough, but it seems like the quality has been going downhill with each new episode. Anyone else agree?
And I really hate how Drew starts off each episode raving about "the best animators around the world" and how "if you're cool you'll see it"... blah. I think I'm gonna start fast forwarding through his intros.
Also, the skits go on twice as long as they would if this was Whose Line.

Sometimes it works better than other times, I think. One thing I have noticed is that they seem to use bits filmed at different times rather than being all one show. For instance, in one skit Greg will be wearing that purple shirt that makes him look quite tubby, and in the next he'll be wearing something completely different. So they appear to tape at different times and then put them together for a single show using different taped segments.
I do like the animations most of the time, though, they really make the skits better for the most part. They use a lot of subtle add-ons that are easy to miss but funny if you catch them.
It's not a great show, but it's amusing enough as filler.
