So, when does 24 fall off?
So I'm finally watching the first season of 24 on dvd, and man, it's as good and addicting as everyone said. I'm up to 9 eps in the last ~18 hours, with no end in sight. I should be finished tomorrow, so what I want to know is, how is Season 2 compared in quality to this season?

I didn't make it to the end of season 3. At least I don't think I did. I don't even remember anymore.
I plan on watching this season though because part of what kills it are the long breaks they take during the season, but the biggest problem is that you start seeing the same things over and over. It's fun to mock it, but it starts getting less fun to watch. I'm hoping that they use this extra time before the season starts to fix the problems.

24 falls off the first half of Season 3, but makes a great comeback the second half of the season - providing some of the best shows in the three years it's been on.
It could either fall off completely this season or be better than ever...hard to tell since Keifer will be the only cast member returning full-time.

Having watched every episode so far, here's my report card.
Season 1, first half (thru episode 13): A
Season 1, second half: B+ (headed for a C- but redeemed by the final couple episodes, especially the finale)
Season 2, first half: B
Season 2, second half: B- (ending left me wanting much more)
Season 3, first half: C+
Season 3, second half: B

I agree with Hondo. But each weak half still had it's strong points, despite not being as solid all the way through.

Season 3: first half pretty drab, except for

Just finished it up, wow. Great stuff. Interested to hear why everyone liked the first half more than the second half. Please no spoilers as it relates to any other season.

I'd tell you why the second half was silly, but I have amnesia and can't remember.

Yeah I guess that was pretty silly since it never lead anywhere at all. Why introduce that guy if it never pays off?

My wife and I gave up on the show about 10 episodes in to Season 3. It just got to be too much. I heard it turned around a bit, but nothing sounded appealing enough to pick it up again.
And if I had to hear that goddamn CTU phone ring one more time....well, it wasn't going to be pretty.

WHich is funny because if you think about it, the writers wrote it, and they film the eps months later. Well in the second season wouldn't you think between then and the week it happed (3-4 months) that just one person would speak up and say... "a cougar trap? Really?"

Sorry to bring this thing back from the dead, but I am now almost half done with Season 3, so I have a little more perspective on the show. All in all, I like Season 2 better than Season 1. The highs of Season 2 weren't as high as those of Season 1, but I felt overall it was a more consistent show week to week. The cougar trap was pretty bad, as were a few other things. The thing that made it so different to me was that
As for Season 3, as I said, I am 9 episodes in and I honestly don't feel like this is bad tv. No boring episodes so far, and I really like all of the plotlines so far in this season
, but I am sure before the season is done there will be a few eye-rolling worthy moments
. All I can say so far is, if this is the bad half of the season, I cannot wait to see what the second half has in store.

For me, the "falling off" is mostly due to them trying to outdo themselves each week, combined with a familiarity with the show's formula. They're trying too hard to pull off these big shocker moments now, and they're trying it too often. It's the M Night Shymalayan factor: you find yourself awaiting the surprise, which dulls its effect.

The great thing about season 3 is that it is definitely the end of a couple of characters that had overstayed their welcome. It will be good to start with some new characters.
