I don't think the kid was the coaches son. I think the kid mentioned his parents were out of town and the airport had to contact his granparents. I think it was just the fact that the coach found him to be the most expendible player. The coach was showing him that the team did not need him to win. At least that's what I got. I was halfway paying attention.
I was bummed that Tony Hawke swooped in to provide the happy ending. I was thinking how great it was that the kid could not make it to the game, showing that not every story at an airport has a happy ending. But then heroin boy died, so at least one story did not have a happy ending.
I was also surprised at how loud the drunk cop and coffee dude said the word bomb. If I was in an airport and heard someone mention the word bomb, especially a cop, I would take notice. The extras did not.

I kinda of slept through some of it, so I am confused about the kid. Was the coach his father or something?

I hated this episode more than the previous week. Two weeks in and I don't care about a single character on this series. I am doubtful if I will watch on Monday. It depends on my particular mood that day, I guess.

I saw no point in the whole drunk cop. They really are stretching to make this show about an airport seem interesting.

I liked this episode better than the pilot. The pilot seemed to have too much going on at once, while this episode focused on fewer stories.
I am still not happy with the interaction between Locklear & Underwood's characters. I like both of these actors so much-- I don't want to watch a show where they are constantly snarking at each other. I realize that a show needs some conflict, but I don't enjoy them sparring. I'd be happier if it was more of a sexual tension conflict, and not a professional conflict.
The ending scene finally showed some respect between the two so maybe they'll soften in future episodes.

Best episode yet. It was all centered on the plane distress, with no drinking cop or any standalone B plots really (Underwoods wife and the fear of flying group were both joined with the B plot by the end).
If this series had shows like this constantly, I would always watch it. It was tense and enjoyable. I actually liked all of the characters this episode, which was not the case in any of the other episodes.

Now that wasn't a bad episode at all - definitely the best of the three. Agree w/ movieking's points about how they put this one together.
Second time in three weeks they used a track off of DOVES - The Last Broadcast. This show has pretty good music.

A really good episode. I am glad I gave it until the third week to see if this show could work. Too bad it started on such a bad vibe, because I think viewership may have died off.
And next week's episode may be quite a good one too, judging from the preview.
I get the feeling this show will be like The Cape, with some hit and miss episodes, and the hit episodes will be really well done, but it won't be enough to keep this around. If they can keep up this kind of quality, viewership could improve by word of mouth and keep it around longer.

The best episode so far. I think the show's multiple storylines work well if they are connected -r andom stragglers just don't do anything. And I noticed something else: our alcoholic cop was nowhere to be seen so maybe that's one of the reasons the episode was better.

yeah I really liked this ep, more then I thought I would from the previews.. being they did find a new sort of spin to put on the idea of plane having issues and how to go about helping it land.. Also as others have mentioned the worked in the other story lines really smooth like.. With out having to have it seem like the show stopped so they could talk talk talk about some character issues.
Only down side is that it's only the 3rd ep and they have already ran past a whole lot of the main airport story lines one can break out. At least as far as tense sort of situations and mundane airport problems are not going to keep this show on the air..
Guess we wait and see.....

I agree that this was the best episode so far. Hopefully people who were turned off by the pilot will tune back in, or NBC will move the series to another night - didn't do very well against CSI: Miami last week, and I'm guessing the numbers were poor again last night. But this is one of the few new shows this year I'm actually enjoying - which is usually a sign that cancellation is near!

I think the first couple episodes were critical now that CSI Miami is back. LAX didn't do much for me during the first couple shows, so I didn't bother tuning in last night and went for CSI Miami instead.

From zap2it.com:
That's about a rating point better than last week, so all is not lost...yet. If it can make it though football season, things could pick up as far as viewership.
At 10 p.m., "CSI: Miami" moved CBS back into first with a 12.6/20. "Monday Night Football" averaged 11.9/18 for the hour. NBC's "LAX" improved a little over last week, scoring a 6.2/10.

Merged LAX threads into one as per B.A.'s request. This probably makes sense for this show as I don't think there are many people watching. This thread can be bumped as new episodes air.
Let me know if this is a good idea.

How many different scenarios can they run before they have to start rehashing ideas? And this show cannot be a serious drama for an hour - it has to bring the funny once in a while or it drags along.
I like Frank John Hughes, but his character is the weakest part of the show. Except for the two or three other members of the cast who are non-existent.

I'm really enjoying this show. It is nothing special like, say, Desperate Housewives. But it is nice to have a one hour drama without the words Law and Order or CSI in the title or concept.
I thought this was another solid episode. The annoying drunk cop actually had a semi-interesting storyline this time. They need to fire him or get him in rehab. His storyline is not exciting.

I'm really having a hard time with the whole music with the situation. They play something up beat and swinging when there is a bomb squad on tv?
Drunk cop with more upbeat music.
I can't wait for nexts week adventure with lost luggage.
