IMO season 1 entirely sucked alot of less hardcore simpsons fans were probley disappointed with this set if they bought it. season 2 the show got alot better then at season 3 it started to peak then i agree with you around season 9 it sucked some of season 9 was good but season 2-9 are pretty good. anything after sucks they changed the characters too much and tried to make it more like family guy.

But what season did they go from GREAT to GOOD? Wasn't it around the time Futurama started?

I think you mean Family Guy . Ever since I saw Family Guy, the Simpsons have not seemed as funny. I'll probably buy up to season 8 or so on DVD (I own 1,4 currently). I do agree that the show is not as funny as it use to be (I rarely catch new episodes because of this, that episode with the "this log is your log" bit was when my interest in the new Simpsons episodes began to hit a sharp decline). I have since seen a couple newer episodes and there were several funny bits though, so not all is lost. And who says seasons 2/3 aren't funny at all? Doesn't the Burns' baseball team with Griffey, Mattingly, Clemens, Strawberry, etc... fall in those two seasons somewhere? That is one of the funniest episodes ever, Mattingly I thought I told you to SHAVE THOSE SIDEBURNS!! That's it Mattingly you're out of here!

Whichever season started having a guest star in every episode, I gather.

No, I meant Futurama. I thought Matt Groening handed Simpsons over so he could do Futurama, or something like that.
