Joey 9/9/04 - Pilot
Just a reminder that Joey premiers tonight!
Emmy nominee Matt LeBlanc reprises his Friends role as charming Joey Tribbiani in this comedy spin-off that continues the beloved Friends tradition. Joey, an aspiring actor, is off to Los Angeles to pursue his dream and begin a new chapter in his life. In this new town he's sure to face new challenges, both professional and personal. After reuniting with his sister, Gina, Joey moves in with his 20-year-old genius nephew, Michael, who is literally a rocket scientist. What Joey lacks in book smarts, however, he makes up for with people smarts, making him the best new friend his nephew could ask for. |
Who'd they replace Ashley Scott with?

I'm interested in seeing what is different between this episode and the pilot I *ahem* found somewhere.

I think the critics are being too generous with "Joey," esp. USAToday.
I wouldn't give it *** 1/2. More like ** 1/2. It plays more like The Single Guy rather than Friends. |
I'm boycotting this on general principle. Tired of having it shoved down my throat every time I turn to NBC.

The thing I love is how Drea de Matteo can be the mother to Paulo Costanzo and be Matt LeBlanc's older sister. Ages:
Drea - 31 Paulo - 26 this month Matt - 37 Suspension of belief is high, but I'll watch it anyway :D |

The unaired pilot was hilarious, I hope the shows holds up well because I think it could be quite good.

I love this forum

Just watched it, and it is very close to the leaked pilot that has been on the web for a while, if not identical except for the casting change. Note: I am pretty sure that it is longer than 30 minutes, so you might want to tape for an extra 5 or 10 minutes to get it all.

joey was the only reason i ever laughed while watching friends with corrie..
and gotta say... he is still damn funny  some people may not like the show.. but he cracks me up and Ill watch it as long as it stays on the air |
I thought this was very good for a pilot. The scene with Joey trying to keep up with the cameras was my favorite. Not as funny (yet) as Friends at its best, but certainly funnier than anything I saw on Friends LAST season. Solid start.
|
Just finished on the east coast....I liked it....there were a couple of parts I cringed at, but overall I'll be tuning in each week for now. The Joey character is just very charasmatic to me, I don't know why.
Drea's a MILF, too, btw. |
I thought it was good.
Hopefully it can atleast stay at this level. |
I do like Andrea Anders more than Ashley Scott in the role as the neighbor.
|
I enjoyed it and actually liked the new person playing Ashley's Scott's character more than Ashley Scott in the original pilot.
I am ready for next week. |
sucked.

Originally posted by Sunday Morning sucked. I enjoyed it. I can see how some wouldn't, but the Joey character makes me laugh. I don't watch very many sit-coms any more because the ones I do like tend to get cancelled too early (The Tick, Andy Richter, NewsRadio, etc.) but I gave this one a chance and was pleasantly surprised. I thought everybody was well cast and it had enough laughs to keep me happy. Hey, it is formulaic and it doesn't break any boundaries, but it's a bit like comfort food. It doesn't surprise, but it's comfortable and it's something you know. If the rest of the episodes are as good as this one, I think it will be around for quite a while. I really think the general, wider audience will lap this up like crazy too, and that never hurts. |
Originally posted by badger1997 Wow, what a probing and well-thought out analysis. What can I say, I am really good with words. Or know when I didn't like something. We'll see next week. |
I think it has promise. I do worry that the whole "look how stupid Joey is" schtick will get old fast unless the writers can find a way to give the show more angles than just that.

Did they set up the last joke properly? I remember Joey telling the story to Michael in the pilot I saw before this but I don't remember that scene in this one.
|
I thought it was very funny. Joey is a good character, and he fit well with his sister & nephew. Maybe one too many fake tit jokes. It started out well with Joey in the taxi telling the driver how he moved from NY to LA to continue his acting career, only to find he was in the wrong city. Perfect Joey.
The only weak part was Joey with his new agent. Stifler's mom was terrible in a bad character. |

I am glad I had the Tivo set for the Donald after this since it ran over.
|
I liked the show, or what I saw of it. It wasn't amazing, but it does have quite a bit of promise and it was funny.
I need some help, though. My TIVO only taped thirty minutes, and apparently the show went another 5-10 minutes. Can someone fill me in on what happened (in invisible text, of course)? I really was hoping TIVO would have caught it. |
I enjoyed it quite a bit..i'm definately glad i decided to give it a chance
|
Since I missed it, were there any differences other than the cast change? |
Not bad at all. Love Drea and I think she has decent comic timing. Still think there could stand to be another character added to the mix for Joey to play off of. Could be the neighbor, I suppose, but if not it wouldn't be hard to add someone else. I can see character played by Stiffler's Mom getting old really fast, especially since she pales in comparison to Fraiser's semi-regular agent Bebe.

Originally posted by Barry Woodward In the original pilot, we never find out what Alex does for a living but because of the recasting the writers were able to add more background for the character and make her a corporate lawyer. The Days Of Our Lives t-shirt joke is new as well. Nancy O'Dell has replaced Pat O'Brien for the Access Hollywood interview of the Nurses cast member. The lines about Joey getting sauce everywhere were added to the final scene. |
This show will need a few more regulars to make it interesting.
But, it still has plenty of promise. :) |
Since it ran over, my TiVo stopped after Alex told Joey that she was going to the airport to pick-up her husband, and he said he didn't know she was married 'cause her ring was on her right hand and she opened her mouth to explain something and _______.
That's where it cut out. Can anyone fill in the blank for me and tell me how the episode ended? (BTW, from what I saw, I thought the show was quite funny. I hope it does well.) |
